It's not pirate copies that I hate, it's the people who participate. They make up so many excuses and justifications when really it's a combination of a) they want it, b) they don't want to pay, and c) they can get away with it relatively easy.
It's because of pirates that the rest of us are treated like criminals with this broken DRM crap. If piracy wasn't on such a large scale as it is at the moment, then not only would we just settle with CD keys, at best, but we'd also have a hell of a lot more games from smaller developers (anyone remember Game Arts?).

I think that piracy is good and bad. I think it is ok in that, I have had some college classes that have needed me to use some software that was outrageously priced and I was only going to use it for that one semester (AutoCAD, photoshop, rhino, dreamweaver, etc) and I don't think that paying 300+ each is ok. There also is the games that I have already purchased once that broke or the disc scratched and I don't want to pay money to own the same game twice. I don't like where they are taking precautions to limit piracy because now people that have never stolen are getting affect adversely.
Then again, I think its bad because people have spent there time working on this product to actually get it out and I feel bad about that.

I love piracy, you get the sea air the rocking motion and then you attack and get all that free gold arg shiver me timbers. to really answer the question tho I dont think its either good nor bad it's just there, prices are high to buy new piracy allows more people to access it, it lacks the stigma of a real crime. It's like would you steal someones wallet, well no I'd be thrown in jail, would you steal a movie/game/cd yes cos i wont be thrown in jail. Plus in effect you haven't realy stolen anything you've bought the pirate copy from someone who has.
I have a ps3 and own 6 games all genuine, but I wait for the price drops, I dont trust modding something i paid 200+ quid for and I'm a kinda hoarder for games books cd;s and dvd's I like the packaging and books as well as the game. I'm hoping piracy causes price drops so I can buy more cool stuff, I wouldn't say it spoils the economy as most people I know also like to buy things they really want genuine well some at least do, they tend to just pick up things they would never buy at full price
