Oh, Sweet Mercy!
I just hooked up my new 20 inch monitor. *sigh* I think I will look at her all day long while spurning my older 14-inch screen. 20 inches... she's beautiful.
The balance of dignity on a show and for a character has got to be one of the most important things to me.
I think about this most when someone manipulates a situation to get someone's love. How confident can you be in that person's love if you had to use all sorts of tricks to win their affection. In fact they never got a chance to make up their minds. The idea wasn't theirs.
Or how about when someone "fights" for someone but loses him or herself in the process. Hasn't that person betrayed him or herself. How can said person be happy in a relationship?
To clarify, Dignity does not mean someone rejects what he or she feels. Dignity is being true to core emotions while at the same time respecting oneself. Dignity says "No" when desperation says "Yes." Dignity will take solitute over an enslaving love.
Additionally, there are some exceptions to the rule where I feel a loss of diginity works. The first exception is that it contributes to the overall message of the story. The loss of diginity speaks to something significant in the story. Another exeption is when the balance of dignity tilts lobsidedly and the loss of dignity in on character is the balance for the story. While their may be other exceptions that I think work, so far these are the only two I can think of.
(So, I guess I'm back. I've been back for a little while, but... who knows how long it will last.)
It's time for me to say goodbye to the forums for now. I had fun these few days spewing out self-important nonsense. However, I got important stuffs to do. This includes living everyday life and interacting with family members and those around me.
And then there's school.
