One of the weirdest films of all time, and so blantantly obvious the second time you watch it. The unnamed narrator is an insomniac worker bee, just another part of the system, plugged into the wall. In order to cure his insomnia, he goes to support groups for blood parasites, TB, even testicualar cancer. Before long Marla Singer, another fraud, starts showing up in all of his support groups, which once again makes him insomniac. Not long after, he comes across soap salesman, Tyler Durden (who also splices porn into kids movies in his spare time). Tyler, and the narrator both start up a group called Fight Club, where men fight each other to channel agression. As the whole thing gets bigger and bigger, Tyler strays more and more from his roots, leaving the poor narrator behind. I love the way that this movie changes its setting through time, from the narrators clean, polished world, to Tylers grungy dark one. It begins with the narrators world, and by the end that world is long gone, but the transition is very smooth. This film is just astounding and maybe its because im stupid it took me three watches to get the ending... Anyway, a must watch for movie lovers

WB logo. Fade to black. Sudden flash of red that sends a chill down your spine. Creepy soundtrack, with the words 'stanley kubrick' and 'a clockwork orange' almost dreamlike. Cut to maniacal, unblinking face. Slow, again, dreamlike zoom out reveals that the maniacal face has companions. Still unblinking. Then Malcolm McDowells somehow eerie voice comes in 'There was me, that is Alex...' and its very had to not feel unsettled, even if youve seen it before, and especially if you havent. This sets the tone for the entire movie, and the first time, it isnt the most pleasant film ever. The storyline is about a violent hooligan called Alex and his pack of 'droogs' who follow him everywhere, obeying his every command. Their sick pleasures include, beating up defenceless people, rape and theft from houses. Before long though, there is stirring in the ranks, and Alexs 'droogs' turn against him, landing him in prison. In a desperate effort to be free again, he becomes a guinea pig in a technique still in testing, a technique that makes him unable to commit, or watch any act of rape or violence. The most memorable thing about the film is the imagery. Alex's maniacal stare, Alex strapped to a chair in the 'treatment' among others. This is a disturbing film, but essential watching for everyone.

One of the most uplifting pieces of cinema in existence. Jack Nicholson really is in his prime here, although other fantastic performances are given by Christopher Lloyd, and Danny DeVito. The story is of Randle MacMurphy, a man who is going to go down for the rape of a 15 year old girl, but decides to try and convince them that he is insane. He succeeds, and is put into a mental hospital, pending investigation on his mental health. Louise Fletcher is magnificent as Nurse Ratched, the nurse who doesnt take a liking to MacMurphy, and shows it often, but there are hints of a nicer character underneath the cruel exterior. A must see for all fans of...well...just films in general really! Watch out for the ending. Truly Magnificent.

Okay so the action is watered down, but lets not forget, reservoir dogs had very little violence and it earns its place in history as a classic. I'm not saying this is a classic, i'm just saying Tarantino's masterpiece (arguably) isnt very violent. unfortunately, it's hard to watch this film without watching the first one right before but thats all I didn't like about it. Oh, and Bill took 6 steps at the end not 5.

The fourth film (well, fifth) by Quentin Tarantino, and to be honest it's a bit disapointing. I'll get this straight at the start, THE ANIME SECTION WAS POINTLESS. Not that I don't like anime,(spirited away is a personal favourite) but it was just totally out of place. Okay so the whole thing is Tarantino all over, scrambled chronology, with a decent helping of violence... but the script. Oops. That is most definitely not Tarantino. Okay so his 'make the characters real' treatment wouldnt work here, but something remeniscent of the serious parts from pulp fiction and reservoir dogs would be nice. but it's not all bad. The action is brilliantly done, and the story is actually really imaginative. The plotline is about a woman who we know only as 'The Bride' whose wedding is destroyed by a bunch of assassins. In true Tarantino fashion, we don't get to see the wedding (not unlike the 'job' in reservoir dogs). All in all it's a half decent film, but im not really a big fan.

The most powerful movie ever filmed. The story is simple, and beautiful. In Stephen Kings own words 'The Shawshank Redemption will not make a good movie, but has the possibility to make a great movie', the latter being correct. The story is of banker Andy Dusfrene (Robbins) who gets sent to Shawshank Prison for murdering his wife, but he isn't a cold hearted killer. He is a quiet reserved type of man, who turns out to be very strong willed. This makes you wonder if he ever did it at all. Once inside he makes friends with Red (Freeman), a man who 'knows how to get things'. After that it's just a depiction of friendship in a maximum security prison. Simple.

The first movie i saw by Tarantino. Runs off the theory that a movie needs a beginning, a middle and an end but not always in that order. The movie is about a job (thats all you hear of it to begin with) that goes wrong, and all of the guys involved that got out of there regroup in a warehouse. Interestingly, Tarantino never shows the job itself, all we know is what the characters tell us. Before long they realise there is a rat in the house...but who? The flashback sections are remarkable (especially that of mr orange) and the entire film is completely gripping. Steve Buscemi undoubtedly gives the best performance as Mr Pink, followed closely by Harvey Keitel and Michael Masden as Mr White and Mr Blonde. The extremely contraversial 'ear' scene isn't as bad as critics made it out to be. The camera actually looks away as it is happening. The soundtrack is awesome, including a rather disturbing use of 'Stuck in the Middle'. For fans of Tarantino and crime films alike this is a classic.
