I was browsing last week on the internet when I suddenly pushed over my cup of coffee over my notebook computer . It shut down immediately but there wasn't any fireworks or short circuitery . Hoping only a safety switch was cut off I dismantled the thing (an Asus notebook from 3 years ago, a very good piece of machinery btw) but hope faded soon as the thing was impossible to dismantle properly . The only thing I saw was lots of coffee . Of course the wife was quite upset as she didn't back up some photoos (around 5000) and lost an i-tunes library around $250 .

Anyway, the thing was toasted and didn't fire up anymore, also not after a night of drying . I bought a new notebook (had a little discussion if it would be a notebook-desktop), but as I got the last thing to say about our car, my wife decided to buy a new notebook . Fine by me, and it became a HP with an Intel core duo T8400 and an Nvidia M8600 GT GPU (the thing had 3 gigs of ram) . Quite a medium PC for today's standards in my humble opinion . As I was running XP before the whole Vista thing took some time to learn .

With a smile on my face I took some oldies out of the cupboard and installed them on my new piece of machinery and of course took the two power hungry beasts in my hand called Supreme Commander and Crysis, to see how they should abuse my new piece of hardware . crysis went quite well, with most settings on high and a reasonable resolution , but Supreme Commander surprised me once more .

First of all, the game didn't have any sound anymore, like nothing . After checking the internet and putting a post here on GS there wasn't anything to fix this . Secondly, when playing on high settings (shadows low and no AA) the thing started to go slow with 6 opponents on a medium map .

Weirdest issue of all, the expansion game plays with sound ... so I'm stuck with that . Not big an issue, because the expansion has everything and more than the original , but I didn't have the chance to try out the original campaigns .

Anyway, Supreme commander is such a great game . It is sooo hardcore and unforgiving...I just love it . It's a delight to see hundreds of units battling it out at once . This game makes the difference between console gaming and pc gaming, as the 360 version proved btw (it is rumoured that the new SC game is put on hold because there's absolutely no hardware that can handle the force) .

The PS3 and 360 are very energy friendly the last days now that I rediscovered PC gaming . I hope my notebook can run diablo3 and Starcraft 2 too . The which version of Red Alert 3 question is solved too...

No attack on the consoles btw, as my PS3 and 360 will soon fire off again ...

In the end I guess I'm a shapeshifter . I have my moments with all kinds of gaming ...PC, console, handheld (just finished the ff4 remake on DS, lovely) , I love gaming . It's a shame not everyone can enjoy gaming like I do ...

O and the wife became happy ever after, as I recovered the internal HDD and made it an external with the right tool . Hehe, mission accomplished...new computer for me in the process...
