So back in the day, stuff I wrote in or sent in to Gamespot's podcast made it on the air pretty often, but it's been around two years since I've submitted anything. However, a recent podcast prompted a used to refer to Wolverine's adamantium skeleton as being made of the second strongest metal in the Marvel universe, after vibranium.

Naturallly, I could not allow this to stand. I brought my nerdly powers to bear, and got an excellent dramatic reading of my letter on the podcast. Bonus points to Brendan for merely laughing at my dorkishness and not reading it in the voice of Comic Book Guy (and for not mispronouncing my typo of "alloy") . For the edification of the masses, here is the text of the letter:

OK, I am a massive Marvel nerd and I am appalled by the misinformation that you have all been subjected to. Adamantium *is* the strongest known non-magical material in the Marvel Universe. No known amount of physical force can damage it; anytime it has been shown to be damaged, it has been because it is a cheaper, easier to produce variant.. Vibranium (which has two forms) is strong but not at all in the same category. Secondary vibranium (also known as anti-metal), found in the Savage Land in Antarctica, does have the nifty property of liquefying metals, including adamantium, but that is some weird property of it not related to its tensile strength.

The confusion may be because of the shield Captain America received a bit after being revived from suspended animation by the Avengers. The shield was a unique and unreproducible allow of adamantium and primary vibranium (the latter material having the property of absorbing sound and suppressing vibrations, which is why it can be used to block absurdly powerful impacts without Captain America's bones turning instantly to paste and powder from the transferred energy).

Mind you, this is off the top of my head, and I could get way geekier about it if I were to dig out my volumes of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, but I trust my point is made.

Thanks kindly; I enjoy the show!

Geek status confirmed!

That definitely qualifies as the geekiest dissertation I've heard since about a week ago when my wife admitted she can recite the inscription on "The One Ring" in four different languages including, ahem, Orcish.

Hmm. Even though I might not have known all that stuff, I do know that adamantium is stronger.

This is what I love about you. Pure nerd, but a great one full of knowledge.
