Ever since the Gamespot Halo 3 tournament I've really been getting back into Halo 3. Well Halo might not be for everyone, I've been enjoying it ever since putting it in my Xbox 1 back in Christmas of 2001. It's three games and seven years later and I'm still loving the Halo series. Bungie is great at keeping it feeling new and releasing new map every few months. I just bought the Legendary Map Pack for $10 yesterday, and thought I'd give the maps a little review in case anyone was still thinking about it. Before I start the three maps are definitely worth the $10 if you play Halo 3, and are easily some of the top maps. It also comes with 6 months of Bungie Pro for a limited time. In case you don't know what Bungie Pro is, its an option you can buy to increase your file share (your Halo 3 pictures, maps, game-types, and films) from 6 open slots to 24. I wouldn't pay for the Bungie Pro, but its a nice thing to come with the map pack. Check out my overview of the maps and feel free to leave some comments.
Blackout

The first map is a remake of the most popular map in Halo 2, Lockout. If you've played Halo 2 you should know this map like the back of your hand. Its ruffly the same, with some Minor dimensional changes giving you more room to move around. Weapon placement is very similar but has minor changes like the placement of a few gadgets like the re-generator or bubble shield. The look has been changed to a deserted oil rig in the middle of the arctic, its a nice look but I preferred the old look. Its not as good as Lockout was, but is still an amazing map and one of Halo 3's best.
Ghost Town

In Ghost Town you'll be battling in this rundown facility that was abandoned years ago, and has since been taken over by nature. The battles get really intense and the map layout is great. This being the only new map can make it a little confusing getting around, but once you know it, its a great map.
Avalanche

This is the number one reason to buy the map pack and my new favorite map. Avalanche is a remake of the Halo 1 level Sidewinder, but fixes it in every way for online matchmaking. Do to Sidewinder's size and dependence on vehicles a game of capture the flag could go on for an hour, which is fine for a LAN party but horrible for online matchmaking. They've fixed this problem by making more entrances into the base, giving people on foot giant grav lifts to get around, and filling the level with vehicles. Some of the most intense battles I've had in Halo 3 have been some CTF games on this map. If you play Halo 3 or are thinking of getting back into it, you have to buy these maps. And if your waiting for them to be free in 6 months, I've heard they wont be, so get them now!
Comments
I don't have a hard-drive for my 360, but for most game modes (i.e. the good ones in Ranked matches) I can't play because you need the Heroic DLC.
For team games with more than 2 a side I need to play in social.
I thought I got screwed over when I couldn't play co op in Halo 3 because of no hard drive, or save videos or view videos, but even with Microsofts big exclusive they leave out the non-hard drive users, even though Microsoft chose to make the Core or Arcade version.
I don't want to buy a hard drive for 70 pounds, too much for 20 gigs.
Also, has Halo 3 online always been this slow, I tried playing it after I have been playing COD4 but it seemed slow a laggy.
