MY PS3 JUST DIED!!!! (caps)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I just switched on my PS3 and it wasn't even 10 minutes till it completely froze and then reset with a red blinking light. Naturally I googled this and found it means a hardware failure of some sort caused by overheating (after TEN minutes?!?!). I don't have warranty obviously so I am going to have to shell out £150 if I don't convince Sony to fix their own mistakes in hardware. That is around $300. That is a **** load of money!!!

What is most weird is yesterday I got a call from a girl which ignored but then she called again later and I reluctantly picked up and said something along the lines of "OMG you just killed me in Metal Gear!!" (Of course I apologised to her today at university) and now my PS3 has died. It is definitely a sign. FRIENDS >>> PS3.

Ahhh there were so many games that I was looking forward toooooo! I just bought a new laptop for £800 (around $1300) to (in fact it still hasn't been delievered!) so I'm quite out of pocket and can't afford that repair bill for my PS3. Maybe I should setup a donation line and get some gamespotters to help me out

Wait your ps3 froze? Its probably a a hard-drive corruption. Press and hold the power button untill 3 beeps, then it will take you to a special menu. Back up your ps3 settings. (DELETE EVERYTHING!) It'll work after. It has happened to me.

oh, yh I heard about that mits. But my PS3 crashes before I can get any of the options to work! My friend told me he got his PS3 replaced for free so I'm going to try calling Sony first tomorrow. Thanks though. Maybe after I let it sit for a while it may actually stay alive long enough for me to reformat it using that special menu.

Damn that sucks, maybe you can hook up your PS3 hard drive to your PC (if you know how) and back it up that way?

If you get a free repair I'm kinda sure Sony doesn't care much about files and other stuff on your PS3s HDD.

I still haven't got around to fixing my PS3. But I bought a new laptop around the same time it died and since it is also quite powerful I have just been a bit of a PC gamer recently.

I'd go with mitsuhideakechi's advice. Granted, deleting everything is a major bummer (or you could just use the zip drive, transfer all you gamesaves (except Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV because Capcom won't allow it grr.....) to your PC and then delete it all. Should work no?

My PS3 now doesn't even turn on. I was busy so I left it to the side for a few weeks so I didn't try anything further on it. I have now given in and given Sony their money. I must say the service seems really good. They send a courier to pick up my console and at the same time that courier will give me a replacement console =D! I really like this way of doing things. From what I had read it would be some long drawn out process of waiting for a box to arrive, sending it off and then waiting for my PS3.

There is only one problem right now. I have not backed up any of my games saves. ALLLL of my PS2 and PS3 game saves are going to be wiped off the face of the earth!!! I'm just desperately trying to get my PS3 to work for jus 2-3 minutes so that I can copy the data to a USB. So far, no dice. I wish I had listened to you before mits and backed up my data. ARGH!
