Hey peeps I have managed to get nearly all of my shows back since the "incident", I received a replacement hard drive and I have been downloading non stop. I don't think it's ever a good idea to rely on downloads in case that kind of crap happens and I have been buying more DVDs recently.
I preordered my copy of Pushing Daisies season 2 and it arrived earlier this week, it doesn't happen very often but sometimes we get stuff in the UK before the US does the last three episodes of Pushing Daisies were broadcast here a few weeks ago and the season 2 DVD was released on Monday.
Buy on Amazon.co.uk
Unlike the season 1 DVD which had 0 extras the season 2 DVD has 4 extra features (no commentaries unfortunately) they only add up to a total of about 30 minutes but they are really good:
The Master Pie Maker: Inside the mind of Creator Bryan Fuller
From Oven to Table: Crafting a script Idea into reality
Secret Sweet Ingredients: Spotlight on composer Jim Dooley's work
Add a Little Magic: Executing some giant-sized special effects
I haven't been having any luck with Amazon recently because the jewel case the DVD is in arrived broken
one of the plastic spindles that holds the discs was snapped meaning one of the discs will not stay in place, I'm sorry but that is not good enough when I am paying full price for a DVD so I phoned Amazon and they are sending a replacement (still got the broken one in the mean time)
Other DVD boxsets I bought recently are:
Supernatural Season 1 (I don't like the huge box the season 1 set is in if a slimcase version like the other seasons is released I will buy that)
Supernatural Season 2
Supernatural Season 3
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 1
Breaking Bad Season 1 (region 1 import)
Mad Men Season 1
Damages Season 1
Dead Like Me: Life After Death -DVD movie (region 1 import)
Pushing Daisies Season 1
True Blood Season 1 (region 1 import) (I'm waiting for this to arrive)
Don't worry I haven't forgotten about The Fringe Club! I've been really ill recently so I haven't been online much but I will have a season 1 wrap up done within the week
we have much much to discuss including those Kirk Acevedo firing rumors.
I am really behind on your blogs I will be catching up this weekend!
Don't forgot to vote in Beatrice's "Our Very Own" Tv Awards 2009 Linkage
EDIT: I was so annoyed to discover that the all the special features were missing from my Supernatural season 1 DVD I decided to check my other DVDs:
Pushing Daisies season 1 ALL MISSING INFO
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles season 1 ALL MISSING EXCEPT DELETED SCENES INFO
Mad Men Season 1 TWO FEATURES MISSING INFO
Apprently there will also be an "Easy As Pie" featurette on screen pop-up book narrated by Jim Dale on the US release of Pushing Daisies season 2 in July although it says nothing about this on the pictures of the back of box or the official press release info here
Chuck Season 1 has one feature missing but it is just a playable demo of Madden and I don't care about that. INFO
I am going to buy the region 1 releases of these DVDs and sell my region 2 ones on ebay. All my DVDs are brand and I bought them very cheaply in sales (except PD season 2) so I haven't wasted a lot of money.
All of my other DVDs have all the special features intact including Supernatural seasons 1 and 2. From now on I will buy region 1 releases unless the region 2 releases have exactly the same features.

Hey Bea! congrats on your first first! You have to do the first dance now *dances the first dance* The Pushing Daisies season 2 DVD is actually on region 2 (europe) it hasn't been released on region 1 yet which is why I feel so smug
I thought we had until Monday to vote?
I have more DVDs including Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls and Chuck, I'm trying to build a collection
Posted May 29, 2009 4:02 pm PT
You know what almost never happens? We here get stuff before you or the US. But in this Pushing Daisies case, we did
. I'm glad to hear you got a new hard drive and were able to recover the episodes. You know, you have to watch the Nathan Fillion shows first, do you
?
Posted May 29, 2009 4:18 pm PT
I'm really sorry to hear you've been ill, I hope you are better now
... I really hope we can talk soon again *hugs*

Hey Anke
You mean you always get stuff in Germany first? wow. When I was in Austria I went into some shops and looked at the German DVDs but they were kinda different, they looked like they had been published by a different company or something I don't know if that's just Austria though. I've already watched a Nathan Fillion show! I watched Firefly! Does no one believe me? Tish insisted I watch it or she was gonna come down to London and murder me or something
He has only been lead in like two other shows so I don't know what you are talking about
I will be online this weekend so I can talk to you then
Posted May 29, 2009 4:55 pm PT
No, big misunderstanding, we saw the final Pushing Daisies episodes before you could. Otherwise, we always get things late late late. Most of the time, I buy my dvds in the UK. I don't care about German dubbing anyway....
Posted May 29, 2009 5:08 pm PT
Yay, you finally watched Firefly! Good choice! However, there is more for you to watch. And don't forget about Castle, I really enjoyed it. And soon you're gonna redecorate your profile with Nathan all over it
! Great, I will try to be there too, but my sister is coming. However, she needs so much more sleep than a normal human being, so I hope I will catch you then.... All this Firefly talk, I think I will have to watch it right now...
Posted May 29, 2009 5:11 pm PT
Ok, maybe not NOW, it's already late, really late and I have to get up really early tomorrow... Maybe not that early, and I have Firefly on my Ipod, so I think I will take my Ipod with me and watch an episode... Yeah, that's what I should do
Posted May 29, 2009 5:13 pm PT
Glad you're feeling better Jodie, been missing you. Congrats on dl'ing your shows and buying DVD's
Yay for Supernatural and Damages! I saw the first couple of eps of True Blood last year during a "free preview" weekend on the satellite dish, I have them coming from blockbuster soon, after I finish up with Bones S3. I may also rent Sarah Conner Chronicles too. Later.....

Hi Jodie, Great DVD sets. I have the Supernatural series. Also all of Dead Like Me including the Life After Death movie which I liked. I just finished watching the True Blood Season One DVD's. It is a great show. Funny, I tried to read the books but just couldn't get into them but the characters on the screen are terrific. I will watch Fringe, Season One on DVD. Does anyone know when it is being released? Jeffery

Thanks for the heads up on the voting for Beatrice's awards. That was fun... Jeffery

Jodes... sounds like your tv watching/catching up is back on track! I heard they aired the last few episodes of Pushing Daisies in the UK and was slightly irked by the fact. :: pouting :: how come you guys got it first?!?!? And I'm sorry to hear that you're having a hard time with Amazon. I generally don't use them (ok, really it's a sort of animal rights boycott I have against them), but you deserve top quality with top notch customer service. Don't settle for anything less!! Enjoy getting caught up on all your shows and especially enjoy the DVD indulgences. I'll be curious to know what you think of Dead Like Me... (I personally was a smidge disappointed in it-- but I had crazy high expectations) but don't let my opinion taint you. We'll talk about it later
****hugs**** Hope you continue to feel better and better!

i hope you're feeling better, jodie. the awards were always to close on saturday, may 30th so i can put up the results on sunday.
btw, thanks to you, jeffrey has voted as well!

Aw, sorry you were ill, good to hear that you are better now! You got some very nice DVDs there. I have to get that PD one ASAP, now I am really curious for the extras.
I have the UK version of Supernatural Season 1 as well and I am so sad that I got robbed of all the extras.
I should have gotten region 1... And those firing rumors were strange, weren't they? Can't wait for your take on that. Have a nice weekend, Jodie!
Posted May 30, 2009 1:00 am PT
Well you're not supposed to download
Maybe that's why you shouldn't rely on them, but DVDs are always better. Wow why are there so little DVD extras? That's like half the reason to buy the DVDs! lol will you really buy a season again just because of a new case?
Posted May 30, 2009 1:01 am PT
Hello
I bought the Pushing Daisies DVD S2 already too! I haven't had a chance to sit down and watch the extras, but I'm looking forward to them (trying to drag it out so I still have something left for that show!). You bought lots of DVDs, thats awesome though - I only have Supernatural 1-3 from your list, but I was thinking about getting Damages - just not sure if I'd rewatch it so I'm still debating
Anyway, I'm glad you got back most of the stuff you lost because of your PC, have a good weekend!
Posted May 30, 2009 3:07 am PT
Wow! You've been buying a bunch recently!! Nothing beats actually owning the shows you love
I just bought Terminator: SCC - haven't actually seen the show yet but looking forward to watching it when it arrives! Worst thing about buying DVDs online is you have to wait for them!

Poor Jodie
I hope it's not swine flu! Wow, lots of new DVD's to watch! I'm poor at the moment so I haven't been able to afford any new ones
Have a great weekend

Anke Oh I see! I was insanely jealous when you got those PD episodes first! I also seem to remember you saying that you got The Mentalist before we did. LOL Anke, if my profile is going to covered in pictures of anybody it's going to be Jensen Ackles not Nathan Fillion!!!
How was your nighttime Firefly watching? I don't have an ipod I normally get in bed and watch shows on my laptop. Let me know whenever you are free hun and I'll talk to you then

Hey Emiko Yeah I really love Supernatural now
I've been begun a rewatch. I can't wait for season 5! I'm always ranting about Damages but it seems like hardly anyone watches it. Your gonna love love love True Blood! Season 2 starts in a week or two!
Posted May 30, 2009 1:15 pm PT
Jeffery I've never read the True Blood books but everyone says they are really good. Fringe is one of the DVD releases I'm most looking forward to I think it is released in September or October not 100% certain but I sure it would be in the last quarter of this year.
Posted May 30, 2009 1:18 pm PT
Jeffery Oh thanks for voting in the awards Beatrice is really happy!
Posted May 30, 2009 1:19 pm PT
You have some collection of Box sets, I don't really buy many. I have Prison Break Season 1&2, Dexter S1 and Chuck S1. They will come in handy during the summer and for when I visit my aunt and uncle in India in August
Posted May 30, 2009 1:23 pm PT
Hey Shazzer The only reason we got the last three episodes of PD here first was because of ABC's decision not to air them in the states until July otherwise you would have seen them months before us. ITV in the UK bought the right to air the entire series and that included all the episodes. Why we have got the DVD release a month before you I'm unsure about, it could be just because ABC still has rights on those episodes and will not allow the DVD to be released until they have been aired. Which sucks majorly. If you haven't already I would say just torrent those episodes they are really good. I thought the end was sad though, I was pissed it had to end like that.
What's up with this animal rights thing and amazon? What have they done? Actually the customer service at amazon is pretty good they send out the replacements right away, just what was bad was that it got damaged in transit.
Do mean the whole Dead Like Me series or just the movie? I really like the DLM series but it is by far the weakest of all the Bryan Fuller series. I think it really shows that he left halfway through the first season. Wonderfalls is a much better more rounded show but I think he really got into his element with PD. The DLM movie has a good story but I detested the recasting of Daisy, pretty much everybody did. It wasn't just the recasting it was that they regressed her character and made her sleep around, the Daisy in the series never did that plus the relationship between her and Mason was missing.

Ela I am pissed. I just looked it up on amazon.com and the US release of Supernatural season 1 DOES have a lot of extras! I didn't know that! The main reason I bought this one was because it was only 7GBP in a sale so it's not like I've wasted a lot of money. I did think it was odd that the season 1 boxset has not extras because the season 2 and 3 releases have ALL the extras, plus the US release is a much slimmer box. I think I will buy the region 1 verion and sell mine on ebay it's still brand new. Maybe you could do that too? I usually check the US version to make sure I'm not missing out on extras but I didn't that time because it was so cheap in the sale.
Posted May 30, 2009 1:42 pm PT
Daria LOL I know that I don't rely on downloads that's the point, yes extras is one of the main reasons to buy DVDS! in that case it wasn't just the UK release of PD season 1 that had no extras the US one didn't either. I LOVE having DVDs of my shows
Actually Ela just told that the region 1 release of SPN season 1 has a load of extras and I looked it up and the box is different so I will buy that and sell my one on ebay.
Posted May 30, 2009 1:48 pm PT
Katherine
I love your new Chuck gif where the hell did you get that I've never even seen those pics before! and I love your new Reaper banner on your profile! LOL I watched the extras straight away I normally wait til the end but I just couldn't they are pretty good. Yay for having the DVD so soon too! Damages is really good and the great thing is the boxset is really cheap its like 7 pounds so it's not a lot of money.
Posted May 30, 2009 1:53 pm PT
Elly OMG I hate the wait too! I wish they would invent a way to instantly transport things to your home. Still it's alwasy cheaper and easier to get these DVDs online so I'd rather do it that way.
Posted May 30, 2009 1:56 pm PT
Penny you joker! No it's not swine flu! but a lot of people in London keep coming down with it. I hate being poor
actually I do not have a lot of money either but I've been getting DVDs in sales most of those DVDs were reduced by a lot.
Posted May 30, 2009 1:59 pm PT
Zala Wow you have just one boxset? you really need to catch up!
Posted May 30, 2009 2:00 pm PT
thefanof Cheers, I love curling up on the sofa with a good DVD
Posted May 30, 2009 2:01 pm PT
Vman You take them to India with you? That's cool... if you have a portable DVD player I imagine they would be good to travel with too. I still don't own Dexter on DVD! that has to be next on my list for sure.
Posted May 30, 2009 2:04 pm PT
I'm so glad someone else likes Damages too. It seems like one of those hidden gems, no one knows about it. I guess we need to spread the word
I'm always missing it when it's on TV, I end up watching it on DVD, I'll marathon it.

Emiko Damages is shown on TV here in the UK too but I always miss it as well! I blame the fact that they show it so late at night and keep switching the times around so I bought the DVD so I could watch it in one go too!
Posted May 31, 2009 7:00 am PT
Lol, think I might go to the end of the financial sales and try to buy some bargain DVD's, I'll definetely be a little better off when I start at uni
Glad to hear it's not swie flu! Make sure you stay away from people who are infected
We've got a shipload of people that are possibly infected docked just outside my city
Maybe I'll stay indoors for a week or two so I don't run into anyone who could have it!
Posted May 31, 2009 7:18 am PT
Penny Oh dear
It's kinda scary when people are getting it so close to you isn't it? A few schools have been shut down in London cos of it. I'm so paraniod I don't wanna touch things in public places!
Posted May 31, 2009 7:53 am PT
I'm not gonna take the DVD to India
I'm gonna convert the episodes to my PSP, I just got a 8GB memory card from Play.com for £30. I've already put Season 1 of Chuck on it
Posted Jun 1, 2009 4:02 am PT
Oh I want Supernatural extras too!! But I don't have a region free DVD player, or I do but it's really small. But what I want the most is the new Serenity region 1 DVD
new extras. Are you feeling any better yet?
Posted Jun 1, 2009 11:54 am PT
Vman Oh I see I wouldn't know the first thing about converting to PSP
Posted Jun 1, 2009 12:25 pm PT
Daria Oh honey you are in luck I have something that you are going to kiss me for
I found it yesterday I was going to do a blog about it after The Fringe Club but I will tell you now, it's a program so you can make your DVD-rom region free! I did it and it works and now I'm playing region 1 dvds on my laptop
I will pm you with details. Oh feeling a lil better thanks hun
Posted Jun 1, 2009 12:28 pm PT
Wow Jodie, that's was a bargain! I have to get the Supernatural Region 1 disc as well and I plan to give away my current version to my friend. Another thing I learned: Most DVD Players (non-PC) have a code to make them region-free. It was advertised for mine so it's legal. I had to do this: Opening the layer and typing four numbers. It's a bit like voodoo.
You can the code on the internet. Just search for your DVD player model and "regionfree". Glad you are at least a little better! And @Daria: New Serenity extras?
Posted Jun 1, 2009 1:13 pm PT
Ela Yes I bought my DVD player and made it region free last year it's so easy isn't it?
What is more differcult is making your DVD-rom region free cos you have to flash the firmware of the drive and unless you know what you are doing you can make your DVD-rom drive useless but I found a program so you don't have to do that and you can play any region on computer too if you want I can sent the info
Posted Jun 1, 2009 1:23 pm PT
Thanks! And you knew that, I should have guessed...
I was such a happy camper when I found out, US DVD are often the better choice. I just thought this is something that might interest you, it compares versions of DVD: click.
Posted Jun 1, 2009 1:40 pm PT
Ela OMG thanks for the link Ela! I was looking for something exactly like that at the weekend! US dvd are sooo much better! If I had the money for a blu-ray player and HD TV I would buy blu-ray DVDs too but alas I am way too poor for that right now
Posted Jun 1, 2009 1:51 pm PT
A MILLION TIMES THANK YOU!! Also be careful about blogging about it because illegal downloads and torrents isn't something TV.com loves, you might get moded. I'm glad you are feeling a little better, it's nice to have you back here. I really missed you!

wow, that sounds like a great selection of dvds you've bought there! i've discovered that an english bookstore in zurich has a great choice of code 1 shows as well so i'm going to buy "pushing daisies" as soon as they've got it.
thanks a lot for linking the awards!
