I am certain that at least 9 out of 10 people are buying Madworld for the wrong reasons. For almost all of you, you didn't buy it for it what it really is, but rather what it hides behind. I shall elaborate. Note that if you are in the "1 out of 10" category, then you're either in denial, or you really did see what Madworld is and bought for what it should be seen as. At this point, everyone here probably claims to be in "1 out of 10," and will continue to think that after they've read through, and some will continue to deny it therefore making them in denial about being in denial, or maybe not. It's your place to determine.

First, I'll begin with an issue that goes beyond Madworld, and about gaming in general: professional written reviews. It's becoming more and more common. The review, and to some extent, the ratings and the ratings only, solely determine whether users buy them or not. That's fine to be partially influenced to some extent of other opinions, but for many it's at a ridiculous extent. So why get on to specifically Madworld if this applies to mostly all the current gen games? The answer: Madworld is claimed by so many who think there hasn't been a great retail game in months, not since Smash Bros Brawl or Mario Kart Wii and such. I say they'd have to be either crazy or just plain picky, but Madworld is definitely one of the highest reviewed titles in so many months. I mean just look at these Gamerankings reviews. But this isn't the real reason or the real problem the audience set their sight on Madworld.

Before I get to the real reason, I just want to say that many who've already planned to get this game way ahead of its release date probably wasn't aware that Madworld was a mini game compilation. Yes, a mini game compilation. Mini game compilation titles are most welcome to the gaming world, and I hope to see many more in the Wii's future as long as they really are good and enjoyable. Now comes the question, "Did you buy Madworld because it was a mini game collection?" The answer is more than likely NO. You saw a game that contained insanely brutal deaths including the use of chainsaws, grinders, spikes, etc. Blood was also splattered all over the place. That's how Madworld was advertised, as an extremely violent, bloody game. I'm fairly Madworld has received more hype than any other mini game compilation on the Wii system. This is what is wrong with this picture. People are buying this game because they see it as a "hardcore game" or at least a game that is suited for the adult/mature audience.

The mini games that were always shown in trailers and game play footage before its release were indeed there, but they were hiding underneath the giant pools of blood and behind the meat grinders, not to be viewed as what it really was. The footages sure weren't shown as mini games, not until very near its release when all the hype was already built. Many have fallen under a very stupid concept of video games: buying a game based not only reviews which are nothing more than people's own opinions, but even worse, buying a game on their judgment of language, blood and gore, and violence.

I admit that I have never played Madworld, but I've studied it enough to determine its target audience strategy. Since I've never played it, I cannot judge how good the game actually is. Don't get me wrong, I love the art direction that Madworld has and it will be very remember able, and it very well could be a game that I like. I will not play because the content is way too strong for my standards. Do enjoy Madworld for those that will have it in their collection, but note that you more than likely bought it for the wrong reasons, or at least not in the way you think you did. Either way, it's a joke.

What are the minigames you're referring too the man darts one and others like that? Or are you saying the minigames are hidden in the combat where you grab enemies and a wiimote pops up telling you what to do? if it's the latter I wouldn't really call those minigames, it's just like any game where you have to do a button press or a combo.

I kinda see what your getting at. I wasn't going to purchase Madworld anyway, but I am intrigued by the game. Even if it is a mini game collection, that is alright, because it seems like a very unique change from the hordes of other mini game collections found on the Wii. Sure, I may play the game for the wrong reasons, but at least I'm having fun, right?

I bet if they called the next Carnival Game "Carnival Massacre" it would be considered "hardcore"
I'll be buying Madworld soon. I don't care that its a mini game collection under all that blood. I'm just digging the Sin City look to it. Plus i don't think I own any mini game collection on the Wii anyways.

@Minishdriveby: The man darts, the golf clubbing, etc. are all mini games within the various levels. It wasn't presented in the trailers as a mini game.

@tennis12master: Mini game compilations are a good genre that is very commonly considered automatic shovelware to some at the Wii's current state, but Madworld wasn't viewed that way though because everyone was too distracted with the blood splattering everywhere Yes, it is important to have fun, but again, it's not why almost everyone who plans to add this to their collection is buying it because it's a mini game compilation. If you do pick it up, then by all means, have fun playing it.
@djsav 101: Yeah, Carnival Massacre would be probably be considered hardcore And I have 12 Wii retail titles myself, but none of them are mini game collections. Enjoy the purchase.

I'm going to be getting it. And mini games? What?
...
Plus, you come off as very elitist in this blog.

Nice post. To be completely honest, the level of violence and blood in the game came as a turn off for me. The art style is great, but the over exposure of gore and blood is unnecessary if you ask me. I'm probably going to wait for a price drop despite the reviews this game has received. It's enough of a game to interest me, but nothing that I need to rush to the store to purchase or something that would fit my "hardcore" necessities. Of course, I'm not going to overlook a few other titles that have been released lately such as Deadly Creatures -- I find that game very intriguing and plan to pick it up when I can as well. Again, nice blog.

So what you just took JaysonGuy's idea and made a blog about it;

@helium flash: interesting to see you didn't even know Madworld was a mini game compilation. It's Ok, because that's not how it was advertised so its understandable.

@Darkmagcite: Thank you.

@Nomad0404: Uhhh...no, I did not. Jaysonguy's idea revolved around the mini game compilation topic and says he was pleased to know that fans are finally supporting that type of genre. I took it in a different direction, saying it's disgraceful to see why Madworld was being praised and hyped.

They do have mini-games, but aren't required to be played -- they are there to make people get points faster to get the final boss.

Most of the game is about getting unique kills to get your points up and after that, you can do the deathwatch challenges (the mini-games) if you wish.
