I honestly probably wouldn’t have watched this if I’d known what it was about but … The first few minutes definitely put an adult off: singing animals and girls daydreaming about ‘True Love’s First Kiss’. Later on you realise it’s actually poking fun at it’s own beginning. A lot of it is frothy, cute (but not nauseatingly so) and oh yes, more singing. Despite this, you end up smiling a lot and it is a very sweet love story. The cynicism of Patrick Dempsey’s character is a refreshing dose of cold water which stop things getting too ridiculous. There are many very funny sequences, many of them poking fun at the entire ‘Walt Disney romance’ genre. Overall it’s a sweet movie and the end is quite fun, including a very romantic slow dance.
