I don't know why, but I'm having a hard time getting into the current crop of strategy games. I've spent a fair amount of time with Civ IV and the new Star Wars RTS and you know what, I'm just not having as much fun as I should be having.

It reminds me of something ex-GameSpot Creative Director once James Cheung once said: instead of spending time with these games I feel I'm putting time into them. And that's saying a lot, as I have been playing these types of games (and enjoying them) for 15 plus years.

Which makes wonder...is it possible the Resident Evil 4 was so good that it's making everything else seem weak by comparison? Honestly - I can obviously play just about any game I want, but right now nothing is as enticing as playing through RE4 (again).

I can only hope RE5 lives up to its predecessor. I can say without hesitation I am looking forward to more than any other game ever.

I will second these thoughts. I feel the same way James does.

I really need to just get a gamecube and play this Resident Evil thing, I feel like the guy who never listened to Thriller.

James is so right. For more than 15 years... It almost feels like you're the same with the strategy genre...

******

Resident Evil 4 is a very good sequel compared to other sequels, but, then, if we put too many hopes in a game, most of the times, we get disappointed. Then, it would be very hard for you to enjoy the game and make a objective review with this weight on your chest.

I feel the same as you do with the whole RTS thing right now.. I played Warcraft III and Frozen Throne (expansion) for a couple years and enjoyed it but after a while the ladder not only becomes a little boring once you have a 1500 win icon, but also to compete at top level the micromanagement is extremely intense and removes a somewhat large amount of fun from the game.

Soldiers: Heroes of WWII was pretty impressive gameplay wise, I liked the idea of your men being smart enough to use cover very well and enemy AI though not brilliant good enough to give anyone a challenge -- it did feel however like there was something missing, there should be skirmish modes added to these types of games, you either get a very intelligent units that use their surroundings well, or hundreds of pretty mindless units just shooting at eachother, never an even blend in one game..

You need to play a big game of Dawn o' War. That usually reinvigorates the RTS genre for me.

RE4 is the reason why i can't play anymore MMORPG's and why i can barely stand AOE3.
RE4 is shaping the future of this industry by force!

I love strategy games, but I don't like the current generation of them either. They get too involving. I just like good old simple RollerCoaster Tycoon.

Animal Crossing kind of caught my attention for a while though!
