Let me join the ever-growing list of dot.commers who are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with what's happening on this site.

o

These past three or so days, the people who run tv.com have not kept track of new views and percentage gains towards the next level. I have heard anecdotal evidence of increased rejections by moderators (with flimsy excuses, to boot) by numerous members - as well as warnings for fonts and colors used in blogs and cases of histories disappearing (and then sometimes reappearing).

Seems like...

Good Lovin Gone Bad

I can tell you that when I awoke Sunday morning (PDT), my new views were at 162 and my percentage gain towards level 26 (I've been on level 25 for ever) was at 45%.

When I awoke today (Wednesday), those numbers had not changed. At about 10am my views readjusted to 71 new views (even though I posted a blog Sunday afternoon which would normally equate to a minimum of 300 new views for just Sunday and Monday). The 71 NVs would be what I would normally expect for Tuesday... the third day after a new post. My level % is still 45 (for the 4th consecutive day) even though I was on line and made close to 100 new posts the last four days.

Since the buyout a coupla months ago, the management of this site has gone to hell on many levels. Thank God we still have each other to rely on (several people have written Good-bye blogs in the last week because they can't take the abuse from the moderators anymore).

This has got to stop... more later.

EDIT: Check out this...

FORUM THREAD

...to get a better idea of some of the system and/or editor problems ocurring on this site. It stars our own
SPARKLE FARKLE...

and...

Saw this last night in a rerun, and it reminded me of recent events - especially since the last guy to die had complained of numb feet (uh-oh) just before this clip started.

Cox the Murderer

o

On a different (lighter, brighter) note, I went to my primary doctor yesterday and it looks like I am near or at the end of my three or four doctor visits per month. I have one more visit with each of my three doctors scheduled... and then it's time to sit down with the lawyers and figure up what were gonna ask the cab company for.

WOOHOO

o

As I often do, I stopped at my local watering hole on the way home and happened to sit one stool over from a regular who is there most times I drop in. I know him only as Randy (my middle name is Randall and I was called Randy until I went to high school when it changed to Jon - much to my delight).

Anyway, we became engaged in a 3-way conversation with the bartender (Mike), and I found out that Randy used to play with the Beach Boys and that Dennis Wilson (now deceased) was the best man at Randy's first wedding.

We started talking Rock 'n Roll (and Mike played several of the B-Boys songs on the juke box that he knew Randy had played on). I don't remember much (I never seem to, anymore), but we exchanged numerous anecdotes about RnR going back to the Sixties.

Here's one we talked about at great length (for some reason), and I found the only really, viable YouTube of it (it's shorter and liver and doesn't take 2 minutes to load).

In the Garden of Eden

Then I had a few more drinks... and things got a little blurry. More later (if I can remember)...

...Jon

I've been stuck on the same level for weeks and my views starting going pretty sluggish about the same time.

As for mods tripping over fonts and colors... I don't know what to say to that. As far as I know, mods don't get any compensation, right? If that's the case, that pretty much explains everything to me.

Sounds like an interesting encounter at the bar. My encounters at bars usually lead to restraining orders.

Good nes on appointments . oooh I love the Iron Maiden song on your blog today -one of my faves! Don't know whats going on with the mods at the moment. But I think they need to take a step and look at whats goin on before its to late. xx xx

Meh, I only come here for the people now. But yeah, it can get frustrating. Cool six-degrees story. Its funny who you can meet where.

Glad to hear you're making some progress physically. My level percentage has been going up about a point a day since I reached level 50. I've just attributed it to a slower rise the higher you go. I don't pay enough attention to the New Views to notice a difference. Personally, I haven't had any more trouble lately than usual. I've seen a lot worse in the past (white (or blue) screen of death AAGH!).

WooHoo on first !!!

There seems to be a systemic failure here lately. They should have sent out a memo to the members that there would be some changes (and problems) while they were revamping.

F/Lin -

Thanks... my mental attitude seems to be up lately (that cures a lot).

I don't want to involve you in the dotcom issue - it's not your fault - and I realize that you're kinda stuck in the middle on this latest round of gaffs.

Al -

We're getting what we pay for on this site (although a lot of people take great pride and work hard on their submissions).

I've kinda been a lightning rod down through the years on chance meetings and being in the right place at the right time (except for 'The Accident').

Somebody at the top has to actually take a look at what's going on here instead of letting a bunch of new yahoos run the asylum.

Ayn -

Me, too... not a submission in at least 10 weeks. Here in Vegas (and back in the days when I spent a lot of time in Hollywood) you kinda run into chance meetings without even trying.

Mom -

I'm fairly new here compared to you pros... and I really don't care about my level, to tell the truth. I'm sure this is just another round of growing pains (but unnecessary, don't you think)?

Perhumps you're right. I do recall you being involved in a rather large tiff over the UK guides, so I don't think of you as being on 'their' side.

You little rebel, you.

To be honest I've never been too thrilled with this site. I only post in a forum for a defunct TV show that doesn't get much traffic. I rarely submit and I don't pay much attention to my levels. I'm not exactly the TV.com poster girl.

I'm basically here for the people.
Posted Jul 23, 2008 3:16 pm PT
Lin/Auntie -

I'm feelin a little feisty (compared to recent months), but I'm really not in a mood for this kinda stuff either. I will help out, though, without having to be at the front of the line.

Tv.com doesn't realize that they are going to lose a lot of traffic to this site, it's guides and it's outside links (which is how they make their money).

Maybe I'll just wait until they realize that their 'money clicks' are way down, and start lookin for answers.

It's just really about the friends here, now.

Jon

Jon-

For a while you and I were at about the same level. When you started blogging you got a few levels ahead of me. However, in my very unexpert opinion, I think your level slowed down because you are not submitting to the guides and posts don't do much to boost your level. I think the blogs are the only things really giving you points towards your level. That's my guess anyway.

As for mods/staff...I kinda like some of the cleaning up they have been doing. There have been some people really out of control. I have a much bigger issue with editors on power trips. Don't get me started!

I'm glad things are getting better physically. I have a trip to the hospital myself this Friday for an Epidoral (sp?) in my lower spine and some shots in my tailbone. Should be lots of fun!!!

BTW, stop hanging out in bars you big lush!!! LOL

I thought it was just me... have been stuck on same level forever... even with strong daily activity I'm starting to fear I will be The Crazy Neighbor for eternity here...

For what it's worth this same subject is being talked to death in the Editors Forum... I just fear that the editors people are having problems with aren't reading the forums so will not improve...

As for the Mods, they are dealing with so much gaming that it's hard for them to distinguish good from bad... imho that is...

I know go write my own blog... stop hogging yours
Glad you are feeling better honey!!

Hey Jon,

I'll never advance past level 11. But I could give a sh!t anymore. Sometimes when I check, my views will be increased, but it seems a much more unlikely incident than it staying the same.

I think a lot of people are becoming discouraged by this website. Today it is my 4 month anniversary, but, if things stay this way, not sure how much longer I'll be here. I love the online friends I've met here, but sometimes the crap here is just too dramatic for my taste. We'll see.

So glad to hear about your MD appointment. Hope you are feeling better and better each day. XO Junk
Posted Jul 23, 2008 5:00 pm PT
Yeah, I have been noticing these things too. Sometimes they skip a day and I'm fine with that but it's just taking forever. I don't care about the profile views, but I do with the level percentage. Many people have complained about the sub rejects.. I don't understand what's happening.

Wow, you know a lot of famous people!

Carrie -

I haven't done any submitting in a while, but you're supposed to improve by 1% on any day you log on and make any kind of post (forum, comment, blog, etc.).

I'm not worried about a couple of percentage points, but it makes me wonder what they're doing when they totally blow off 3 or 4 days. It's a trust issue.

Health-wise, I seem to be 2 or 3 steps forward - one step back (instead of the opposite which was really getting me down.

The epidurals are not as bad as we imagine they're going to be (I just didn't like a coupla nurses pulling down my pants and bending me over a guerney while I was out cold and couldn't enjoy it).

Lisa -

I think whoever took over running this, didn't know what all is involved... I should go visit the editor's forum to see what people other than my friends are saying.

I'm guessing it's the same as what we're talking about - plus other crap that I'm not even aware of.

Junk -

I'm really happy to just visit with friends and comment and blog when I'm in the mood.

When the new season starts, maybe I'll put in a few off-the-wall submissions that caught my fancy. This is really the only site I visit anymore... and that's just fine with me.

As for the MD's... like someone said - I feel like I cansee the light at the end of the tunnel.

Ivy -

I think there are a lot of people that are newly in charge that THOUGHT they knew what they were doing - but don't.

A lot of us understand much better what's going on here... but we'd be smart enough to do it right if we were in charge.

I'm not going to worry about it too much, though (it just makes me mad because I've dealt with THOSE kinds of people before).

About the famous people... if you knock around cities like Vegas and L.A. long enough, you're bound to run into them.

Jon, Heya!!! excellent that you had such a nice convo about RnR. Nice after another dr.'s visit. I recently started re-submitting, and I'm going to quit again ... simply because it's not worth the annoyance. I'll just blop and blog and do some forums ... That's about it!!!

Randy - I was on level 13 for like forever and I had been posting a whole lot. But I finally moved up today. Then there was a problem with my contributions it was saying I only had like 14 when in reality I had like over 50. but whatever. I hope you have a great day!

mods got lazy around here. it took 'em a week to see my contributions. and i agree, they should send out a memo!

Randy, (can't say with a straight face )

TV.Com has gone to hell recently, I'm ust hoping it doesn't lose too many more members. However, I wouldn't look too much into the "total views", they are notoriously out of date.

It is strange that all this has happened just as CBS bought the site, wonder if I'll get a ToS for saying CBS SUCKS?

Anyway, good to hear the docs have almost got rid of you and that you've lawyered up.

Nothing like a good bit of classic rock to start the day!

It's good to hear you're beginning to feel your Cheerios! Recovery can be so time consuming...

In reference to this: "...as well as warnings for fonts and colors used in blogs..." If that's in regards to my recent warning, what it came down to wasn't the complaint and warning for a alledged "misuse" of font sizes and color usage in my blogs, but rather the Mortal Sin of legitimately doing so when posting comments in THIS THREAD on the Technical Support Board. (Please read my continuing posts in that same thread, in particular, Posts #32 and #35, where I'm pretty sure I've made myself the target for yet another TOS violation. If I all of a sudden disappear, know that I have been suspended-- and hopefully, not worse.)

***throws head back like a madwoman and laughs out a hardy:*** Oh, you crazy-wacky TV.com, you!

Seriously, though, I've been giving this website and the garbage it strews time after time, and your construtive ideas to overhaul it a lot of thought. IndianaMom's right when she says it's been a lot worse. WAAAY worse. And when you say, "Tv.com doesn't realize that they are going to lose a lot of traffic to this site...", if regular users and friends' blogging fits that shoe, any boycotting of the site, or inundating the staff mods with grievences and complaints will probably only lead to the elimination of blogs altogether. Think about it: being a member of TV.com really isn't a right we're entitled to, it's merely a priveledge-- whether we choose to believe that or not. They can do anything they want to, full knowing they don't owe us a thing. And when you think about it, it is pretty unusual that a site such as this caters to its members by establishing a blog network, or what ever you want to call it, for us to participate in. TV.com wasn't meant to be a blogsite, but yet we're allowed to blog. I mean, really, blogs are are hardly necessary to keep this site alive, at least that's what I'm thinking they're (Staff) thinking. Look how many regulars have vamoosed during this past year alone. The place keeps on ticking, nevertheless. Even with all the consistant glitches that take turns with each other so there's steadily something going wrong to weigh on our last nerves, the website still putts along. And, to ease the TV.com Staff work load, it only makes sense the blogging set-up would be the first to go. Staffers would probably "hoorah!" if they could dispense with that "headache." Even if we confronted the TV.com Administration bearing sharpened pitch forks and handheld lit torches, I'd be surprised if we get anywhere. Even changing all of our usernames to Norma Rae wouldn't make a significant difference. If you want, I can PM you with all the fine, sordid, hairy little details regarding all the lost time and thankless hours (make that months) I and a few others put in just to get the attention of a moderator (let alone receive any support from them-- the troll became the "victim" in there eyes, and continually given the benefit of a doubt) when a troll nearly destroyed a thriving show forum I was active on. Finally, with little or no help from the program editor or the staff, the troll left for bigger and better forums to destroy on Tv.com, leaving our forum a mere shell of itself. It still sucks. You intimated, above, that you'd have "more later." I'm still interested in what you have to say, but quite frankly, I can tell you from experience, the users actually willing to partake in confronting the situation will be few and far between when the time comes. I do wish you the best of luck and I would truly be happy if you proved my last statement wrong.

ALL -

So as to not repeat myself on several comments, this little acknowledgement:

If you are not making submissions, you gain 1% a day as long as you come on site and make comments or write a blog.

Currently, I'm happy to just do that as there is only one show in first runs (SYTYCD) that I am even remotely interested in - and it is well-represented in the forums and guides.

But they have to at least do that (or tell us that program has been suspeneded). It is the commonest of courtesies and this site had better be nice to its members because it continues its viability (and its monetization) based on OUR clicks on their spnsored sites.

I know WE get what we pay for (next to nothing, recently)... THEY are subsidized by people who are trying to sell us something or have us watch their shows. One can only guess that they have contracts with sponsors that are based on the total visits to the site per day and that they've found a way to circumvent that to the point that they really don't even need us anymore.

This site also involves a great amount of memory storage which costs money. Someone upstairs would like to erase everything but the guides and forums, and would like to harrass the rest of us right off the site.

What do they expect us to do during reruns that we've already made submissions to?

THEY think THEY get it... but THEY don't. CBS' management team are idiots...WE get it and THEY don't.

Now back to our normal commenting.

Jon
Posted Jul 24, 2008 8:19 am PT
Britt -

If you make a coupla submissions in a day, the normal increase is 10% a day. If you just come online and blog or comment - it's 1% (supposedly)

A long blog with links and photos eats up a lot of their memory and computing capacity. If it does not link to guides or spnsored links, it's a (small) monetary loss to the site.

I'm sure they'd like to do away with that, but it's part of the allure of the site.

Gix -

Most of the complaints I've heard concern the mods. I assume CBS handed over running this site to people who don't get it (or with a mandate to change the way business is done here).

For the mods, it's much easier to reject something than place it in the guide, so... that's what they do.

Randy

Sir Thomas (can't say that with a straight face either) -

I'm wondering if this is all a case of the 'Summertime Blues' or the changeover to a lot of new personnel who weren't properly trained.

Still haven't gotten over to the Editor's Forum to see how bad the complaints are and if they are being made aware of the problem. I need to do that.

Other than that, things do seem to be improving on the medical front (if they can just get rid of this 24/7 pain in my left foot).

Submissions??? On reruns (at least over here)???

Sparkle -

A lot of us have had strong, initial reactions to 'Mods Gone Wild', but then just settle back into doing what we're doing. We shouldn't have to go through that. We're the ones that filled all of their guides and made them interesting.

I really don't have the energy to lead another revolt (I have a history going back to High School of boycotting stuff and secret, revolutionary cabals at work), but my 'Messiah Complex' kicks in every so often.

It seems to me that a couple of mods or managers tried to single you out - simply out of spite and I don't like some punk messin with my friends.

I've got a plan, but don't know if it's worth the hassle. Again... I need to check out a coupla forums (like the thread you linked - going there right after my recomments, but I see where it concerns lack of response to submissions) before I make any decisions.

F/Lin -

The scoring (and, again, I'm not that concerned with it anymore - it's a carrot and mule type system that I have never been a fan of) should be laid out in no uncertain terms.

I'm getting my standard 1% a day (or I was), and nobody told me that anything had changed. In fact NOBODY has told ANYBODY about changes here on the site - very discourteous and off-putting.

Cenina -

That's the number one complaint I've been hearing. If CBS is trying to save money (or manipulate accepted submissions to make their shows look better), it's gonna come out - sooner or later.

I vote sooner.

93 -

CBS bought out the company that ran this site and has done a terrible job of maintaining it the last coupla months.

A lot of people feel betrayed and/or frustrated about it.

Welcome back .

wow... i never even monitor the % or level or contributions... *feels like a slacker.. i reckon coz i perceived its automatically done, system will do the necessary addition to the numbers.. and it actually didnt matter to me what % i'm given

as for mods, for SN forum, its all calm water over there.. occasionally we get reminder from the mods.. but rarely the mods come and cause chaos.. and they will promptly act when someone report a spam or a chaotic thread and answer queries from PM too.. of course occasionally we disagree with the mods and its rules.. but the mod would say its not his/hers to begin with.. its tv.com's..
i heard its not the same for other forum like BSG or Heroes.. its strict over there... man i talked too much... shhhh pix...

Al -

This reminds me so much of when Harrah's (who were notoriously bad when it came to poker) bought the World Series from Binion's Horseshoe. We all knew that they were gonna run it downhill... same with CBS - they don't get it.

If I leave here, i would prob not go somewhere else, so I'll just wait to see if they force me out at some point (one way or the other).

Gix -

In watching some of my tapes, I found little trivias and quotes that weren't in the guide. I submitted some and they were rec'd with lukewarm responses and stupid reasons why they weren't accepted - as if the editor knew more about the
the show than me (i.e. Big Bang) - I don't think so.

You're also one of those glass half-full (for the most part) type people that doesn't worry about this kind of small stuff.

I usually don't sweat the small stuff either - unless I determine that it's the tip of an iceberg that's headed toward my ship.

I've just been seeing way to many complaints lately, at a time when I also noticed mistakes on my account as well. That got me thinking.

Don't worry about it... much worse things happen daily.
