Ian Rankin has to be one of my favourite authors of all time. He brings the back streets of Edinburgh alive in his books. I have every single Rebus book that he has written. Inspector Rebus is an old fashioned cop who has an instinct about crimes and follows it no matter how infuriated his superiors may become, but he's right in the end and the crime is solved. Unfortunately Rebus retired in 2008 in Exit Music and I fretted about what would follow after all he left behind a colleague who was well known but would she stand up in books about her career? I have recently read Doors Open which is another crime thriller but introduces another cop but one which is apparently a colleague of Rebus who achieves a small mention in the book. This policeman has a similar dogged determination to Rebus although his methods are different. I think I can honestly say there's life after Rebus!

Ben Fogle is a multi-talented young man who appears on a wide range of programmes on the BBC. He presents Crufts often accompanied by his own dog. He has been a co-presenter of Animal Park since the programme originally began. Both these programmes cement him as an animal lover who doesn't mind hard work or getting dirty! He presents Extreme Dreams, now in its second series, in which he takes people on the adventure of their lives such as climbing the highest mountain on the equator or tramping through a Peruvian jungle. He is also an adventurer off screen just recently he was a member of the team that followed Scott's journey to the South Pole. A couple of years ago he successfully rowed across the Atlantic with James Cracknell who was also on the Antarctic team.

Mel Gibson has to be my favourite actor of all time. He has even got more gorgeous with age. I have often watched a film because he is in it - I obviously enjoy watching him if not always the film, eg., I watched Hamlet and thought he was brilliant but I wouldn't buy that DVD. I have the Mad Max box set but never watch the first one as I feel that is too sad and brutal! It doesn't matter whether he is in a romantic film or a thriller I'll watch it. I was trying to think of my favourite film but it's so hard so I'll list my favourties - Tim, Forever Young (I love him wearing that blue shirt) Braveheart, the Lethal Weapons - I wish they'd made another one! As Director or actor or both he is truly brilliant.

Neil Oliver is a professor at Glasgow University, he also presents Coast and The History of Scotland. He is the perfect teacher come instructor as he has a warm and friendly when presenting to camera. As a former pupil who detested history at school his methodology fascinates me. He brings history back to life makuing it so much more interesting. Coast is a programme which deals with the history, geology and natural history of the copastline of the British Isles - a fascinating programme. The History of Scotland is just that a history of Scotland. But living only about a hundred miles from the border I was brought up on stories of wild Scotsmen having to be kept out of England so the Romans built a wall! This programme brought alive by Neil paints not quite the same picture although they did seem to invade and be invaded regularly.
