I don't know about you, but I'm all for change in the technology industry. But only when that change is a good idea. For example: The next-gen consoles.
When I first read about the new Xbox 360, I was over the moon. It was top of my 2005 Christmas List and I was ecstatic when I got one that holiday season. I also thought to myself, 'I hope they keep making PS2 games, it was one of the best consoles'. Sony didn't stop supporting the PS2, which was great, but almost 5 years later they are still making them.
This is where it starts to get a little annoying. For sure they should keep making PS2 games, as long as they are original and exclusive to the console, but with games like FIFA, SmackDown, and the various movie tie-ins, I feel that the PS2 is holding back the future and not letting next gen really take off.
So why do they still make them? As the Playstation 2 is the worlds largest selling console, I can understand companies trying to make more money. But 5 years into the new generation, the majority of gamers have moved on. The only people I know who still have or use their PS2 are children, and people who can't afford the new consoles. Microsoft's Xbox and the Nintendo Gamecube bowed out at the right time, but with the PS2 still selling, it seems like Sony are edging towards milking the PS2.
There really is no need to keep supporting the PS2. Having already broken numerous records and still being widely available, cancelling production wouldn't be a bad idea. The Playstation 2 will still be seen as the best console ever made, no matter what Sony decide to do.
So here I am. Typing into a computer. Revealing my thoughts and opinions to my tens of viewers. Can't get much better than this, I tell you.
The Xbox is on, World at War is being spun in the disk drive, and there is a half full bottle of Lucozade next to me. Oh wait, it can get better than that. Anyway, yeah, Call of Duty 5. I just rented it (well, on Sunday), and have been playing it online feverishly. Mainly for the enjoyment, but also to compare it to its predecessor, Modern Warfare. My verdict? World at War, hands down.
While I haven't played much of the campaign yet (who really does with games like these?), I can already tell that the online is far beyond CoD4's, in terms of replayability. Don't go crying just yet, let me explain why.
The one main problem I had with 4's online was the maps. I hated them, with a passion. It seemed that every map was set in a futuristic Arabian wasteland of curving streets, sand-bags and buildings with multiple level sniper spots. Another problem that annoyed me is that most of the levels were dingy, dark, drab (ALITERATION BONUS!) and very Gears of War-esque. Sometimes it was hard to see when somebody was stabbing you in the back.
World at War however, fixes most of these issues. The maps are vast, and are set in varying locations from cliff-sides, domes and asylums to destroyed towns. It harked back to the old Call of Duty 2 days of maps like Carentan. Ah, the good days. NOSTALGIA BONUS! Couple that with the fact that the maps are mostly outside where the sun shines and the grass is green, and you have a very commendable online experience.
But it comes down to personal opinion in the end. I have talked to plenty of people who have prefered Modern Warfare, maybe because Treyarch didnt do much with World at War, so 4 was a sort of evolution. Or maybe they are just pansies who are annoyed because the prestige requirement has been raised 10 levels. Wusses. All I really have to say is to wait for Modern Warfare 2. Fans of 4 will be delighted but WWII junkies may well have to put on their age old war uniforms and battle march on down the road.
About 2 weeks ago, my Nintendo DS Lite (Guitar Hero Special Edition) arrived. Below is the video of the Unboxing. As I said before it doesn't include Guitar Hero On Tour, but I bought Mario Kart DS so I could at least play something. Currently that is the only game I have but I am looking to expand my collection soon. Blog posts will follow, of course.
I THOUGHT YouTube videos could be posted in blogs, but I guess not. Here is the direct link, anyway.
But that is not all, oh no. I don't have very much money at the moment, never really have, and I just can't seem to save money. I see something, I want it. I can't help it. So, when my FIFA 09 disk became unreadable due to scratches, I had to get it repaired. I did that last Friday.
But luck just wasnt on my side. The following MONDAY, I (like an idiot) accidentaly lifted the Xbox off of the floor. Not right into the air, I'm not an idiot. I have the Xbox horizontally, and it rotated just a few degrees. I knew I had made a mistake. About an hour later, ANOTHER unreadable disk error popped up. I got the dreaded (disk) ring of death! They can't be fixed. I had to spend my current available cash on a replacement copy. Usually I wouldn't but FIFA 09 is probably the best Xbox 360 game I have owned.
While in the Gamestation store closest to me, I thought 'why the heck not, buy something cheap!'. So I did. I re-bought Virtua Tennis 3 for the Xbox 360. In fact, none of you knew I had it in the first place.
And that's where my newest video steps in. As many of you are aware, May 19th is the release of Virtua Tennis 2009. I for one cannot wait. I felt I needed to revisit the series, so that's why I purchased VT3. The video is basically me telling you (well, the camera) all the newest features of VT2009, plus the official trailer. So, if you dont know much about the game and would like to be informed, the video can be found here.
Thanks for watching. More videos can be found at my YouTube Channel.
