club nintendo logo

Hello,

Finally, the time has come. After years of taunting North American gamers with Japan-exclusive goodies, Nintendo has finally launched Club Nintendo on this side of the ocean. Let the hordes of "geeks and otaku" rejoice!

And there should be much rejoicing, because the North American version of Club Nintendo is exactly what gamers have been waiting for all these years. Well, sort of...

Club Nintendo hasn't arrived without it's problems. Throughout most of the day, the new site is barely operable at best. In fact, the only time I have been able to use it at all has been in the wee hours of the morning. Not good. Still, such problems should be expected, as the millions of Nintendo fans (myself included) who have been salivating over the idea for years rush to check it out.

When you do manage to squeeze your way into the site, it seems quite good. Technical issues aside, it's quite easy to register software, complete the surveys and collect your coins. Once you have collected your coins, finding your way to the items is also easy.

Which brings me to the items themselves; they are a great start. No, there aren't yet gorgeous Super Famicom Wii controllers, 2-disc Super Mario Galaxy soundtracks, or super-awesome SD cards with Nintendo music on them, but you have to believe that items of such quality will eventually be offered.

(Oh, and please give me one of these.)

At this point, the best items in my opinion are the Hanafuda Cards and the tacky, yet practical, Mario Game Rack.

Oh, and the DS Game & Watch Collection is sweet, as well.

Still, as cool as those items are, I don't plan on getting any of them. No, I'll be guarding my coins until something amazing comes along.

At this point, I have amassed a beautiful 650 coins, which has made me an immediate Platinum Member. I'm happy about that, because Gold and Platinum Members are given a gift at the end of the Club Nintendo year. And who doesn't love gifts?!

All-in-all, it's absolutely fantastic to finally have a Club Nintendo to call our own. With any luck, Nintendo will offer a top-notch service to those (such as myself) who spend a lot of hard-earned cash on Nintendo products.

I think after all these years, we deserve it.

Cheers!

- Besides all of the technical issues, how do you feel about the new Club Nintendo?

@tudyniuz: I think a lot of people feel the same way. In my opinion, Nintendo is still great, though it's focus has clearly changed over the years. Why some people don't care for Nintendo's new focus is understandable. To each their own, I suppose!

Congrats on making platinum!

It might take me a bit longer than one day

Congrats on the platinum status! Though, I've been wondering whether getting platinum status will get you both the gold and platinum gifts which are sent out at the end of each June.

I only have 180 points. I should have about 430 but my mom keeps selling my stuff. She better not touch any of my Club Nintendo stuff when I get it.

I have so many games that I can register just not enough time
I'm liking this club Nintendo. Its about time we got rewarded for spending so much cash
I have the JP version of the G&M collection but I would really like to get the English one too.
How many coins do you need to go Platinum?

I haven't been able to register my stuff because the site has been going so slow for me, but i'll try later on. I really want that Game&Watch DS collection!

When I finally got the site to work for me (like you, it was very early in the morning) it was awesome. Each survey I took netted me about 30-50 coins (although the WiiWare surveys, which were longer, only gave me 10. Odd). I have just over 500 coins, which is enough for the Animal Crossing playing cards, which I just might get. I'd hold out for something better like you, but I have enough saved registration codes that I haven't used yet to afford whatever comes in the future.

EDIT: What are "hanafuda cards"?

This is great. I'll join asap.

@evrdayblues: Yes, keep working at it! Hopefully being Gold or Platinum will truly pay off in the end.
@Wolblade: I have to believe that Platinum members would have the option of having either the Gold or Platinum prizes, but at this point, who knows!
@GamerBoy53: Hide your Club Nintendo-related goodies!
@DJSAV_101: As far as I know, you need 600+ coins to get Platinum status. You should do it!

@Paleo_Orca: Yeah, so many people have been having problems with the site. It's obviously overloaded at the moment. Be persistent and it'll come around! @superluigi96: The Animal Crossing playing cards are sweet! I don't know exactly how to play with the Hanafuda Cards, but as far as I know, it's a Japanese card game. In fact, it's a card game that Nintendo made their name from way back in the early day.
@livinitup01: Do it now! It's great!

I haven't used it yet.

msudude211: I highly recommend using it. What's not to like about free stuff?!

@Raiken56: If you have Nintendo products, don't hesitate to check it out!
