I was really dissapointed with Final fantasy 8 near the end, it just wasnt my type of rpg. It's great that at the time Square tried to do something different, but I didnt like it much, even though I enjoyed the story a bit.

But now I'm done with it and have put it behind me, so it's off to play Final fantasy 9! Here's hoping it's better, since it supposedly had the best graphics at the time and, apparently, had an evil villian that could rival kefka (I implore you to play Final Fantasy 6, it is awsome). I'm just glad it went back to a traditional battling system (when in doubt, level grind!!!... yeah yeah I know, but that's how I play, so sue me) with still a bit of customization, and the job system is back!

So far so good, though the load times for battles are really long, and are proving to be quite irksome. After this game, I'm going to have to shelve my ps3 for awhile (no complaints really, the console is a bitter dissapointment concerning current games) and then pick up my friend's ps2 slim, to play Final Fantasy 10 and 12!!!

As well, I might consider a few other games for the time that I will own his ps2. Should I consider picking up the two Tales games, Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Legendia? I dont know, I enjoyed Phantasia and Symphonia, but Tales of Eternia left me feeling... frustrated, to say the least. I'd also like any other rpg's that are AAA, so that by the time I've had my fill with them, Final Fantasy 13 and Versus will have already arrived for the ps3! (and any other rpg's if developers still choose to make games for the rather failing console)

FF 8 was for me equal to FF7, the story, the characters were intersting, the battle system was amazing, the GFs and I loved how the game began in a high school ( correct me if Im wrong ), it was cool, the rivalry between Seifer and Squall and the fact that there was a love triangle and a love story between them, it was great.

As for tales, I liked Legendia better than Abyss.
And there are some recommendations for you, so here we go.

a sleeper hit back in the day, it was called Brave fencer musashi, it is on the PS1, if you like Zelda, that game for me was better.

A second game which is a RPG, it is called Valkriye profile, play part 1 on the PS1, there is a remake for the game also on the PSP and part 2 on the PS2.

There are alot of amazing games on the PS1, you have also a game called the Legend of Mana, this game will blow your mind, it is over the top action RPG with alot of great ideas.

Enshalla ya3jebonek el games.

Get ready for a letdown. Final Fantasy 9 was pretty meh. Of course, I was one of the few that adored FF8. FF10 saved the day though, delivering the best story in the series.

thanks for the post guys!

another question. Along with Star Ocean, I've never played a Valkyrie Profile game, and both are (hopefully) about to see remakes on the psp. Now I believe Star Ocean is an action rpg but what about Valkyrie?

Is it a normal rpg like the Final Fantasy's, or is it a strategy rpg like the tactics games? I prefer normal rpg's, am not too interested in that strategy genre really

Valkyrie Profile on the PSP is downright awesome and it's very rare nowadays. If you have a PSP and some extra $30-40, I would get it.

My favorite Final Fantasy games are FF6, FF7, FF9, and FF12. Cant wait for the exclusive Xbox 360 Star Ocean game. I hope it doesnt disappoint.

I can't stand level grinding I'm very impatient. Thats what bring down most RPGs for me . You must be as patient as a saint.

no, Valkyrie Profile combat is like tales but better executed and it is a side scroller RPG, you will love it, it is different from other rpgs but it is amazing.
As for Star Ocean, you are right, it has the same combat of Tales also so you will enjoy it.

As for the remakes, I don't think VP 2: silmeria is going to be on the PSP, it can not handle the PS2 graphics.

VP 1: lenneth is already on the PSP.

FFIX was my favorite, and I hope you enjoy it. Hey, as long as your playing them in order, don't shelve that PS3 and don't skip FFXI.
