No, this isn't about a new blitz game, it's a football column and since non of the other main sites call their column's this, as a gamer I'm going to adopt it as my own. And hope tat it motivates Midway and 2K games to buy into the NFL license the next time it becomes available.
Stats of the Week:
1. Kurt Warrener, considered washed up 2 years ago, through for 484 yds, 2TD's and Arizona still blew it. Nice work Neil Rackers.
2. Brett Favre, toldby many to retire, is on pace to have statisticallt the best season of his career, and thePacker are on pace pace for 14-2.
3. Brett Favre is 0-8 at Texas Stadium. Mind you, 6 of those losses were against Troy Aikman, Emmit Smith, and Michael Irvin
4. Asante Samuel played his best game of the year 2 INT's and one TD.
5. Eli Manning threw for more points then the Giants put up. He hit 4 Minnesota players for 18 points
6. The record for kickoff/punt returns is 13 in a career. Less then two seasons in, Devin hester has 11.
7. A.J. Feeley threw for more TD's then Tom Brady.
Thoughts, questions, and what were they thinking moments:
1. Why, down 4 points, with 3:58 to go, having sucess on in routes all night, did Philly go for the endzone on out route near Asante Samuel? The best case scenario was a TD for Philly, giving New England the ball with 3:50 to go, 3 TO's and the 2 minute warning. And is there anyone who thinks Tom brady wouldn't have gotten his team to the endzone with that much time?
2. 4th and 1, down by 3, at the Raiders 25, you go fir it with 3:00 to go? why Herm Edwards, why.
3. Only in the AFC west could you be 3-8 and only 3GB of the division leader.
4. If Cleveland doesn't re-sign Derek Anderson and goes for Brady Quinn, there morons. Why risk taking a chance on a new QB when clearly Anderson fits perfectly into the system. For the first time in forever the browns are actually a legitemately good team.
5. Why is Brian Billick still considered an Offensive genius? Why is Marvin Lewis still called a defensive genius? and didn't Romeo Crennel used to be a defensive co-ordinator? what a twisted NFL we live in.
6. Up by 4 points, why did Philly keep throwing and abandon their best layer Brian Westbrook? he;s the best all around passing/recieving back in the league, and when you need to run out the clock, why don't you put it in his hands?
7. Despite a good performance this week, Philip Rivers is a still a mediocre QB. I could've hit Antonio Gates on those passes, and as a bonus I can hand it off to LT as well.
8. I'm Positive their are some blind people who could run for 100 yards in the Denver Running back system. If you play fantasy just start whoever is in the backfield for Denver. Then you're guranteed 10 points plus however many touchdowns they get.
9. How do you with 2:00 to go and 1st and goal the 4 yard line not scoring the game winning touchdown with Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt and Steven Jackson at your disposal? Hello St. Louis is anyone alive there?
The "un" watch, the top 5, the bottom 5,and whatever else I feel like noting.
Only 5 teams left on the undefeated schedule for New England. Next week on Monday night @ Baltimore, home to Pittsburgh, Home to Miami, @ the New York Jets, and then at home against The G-men.
Only 6 teams for now left on the unwatchable Dolphins schedule. Tonight against Pitt, Home for the Jets, At Buffalo, Home for Baltimore, At New England, and home for Miami. It would seem double ironically fitting that the dolphins would be the first to go 0-16 and do it the same year the second team ever could go 16-0.
The Top 5:
1. New England (11-0) - Hopefully the Philadelphia wakes the team up and gives them enough motivation to finally shut up the Dolphins, is there anyone who isn't sick of that team?
2. Dallas (10-1) - On a roll and will determine if they are 2nd or 3rd best in the league this Thursday when they get the Packers at home. There that duel for supremacy resulted in a 48-27 beating by New England. So don't expect anything like that again.
3. Green Bay (10-1) - Every Week they get better and Favre gets younger and younger. There's something magical afoot in Wisonsin.
4. Indianapolis (9-2) - I just can't put them higher until i see Marvin Harrison back on the field playing like he always does.
5. Jacksonville (8-3) - David Garrard play makes Jack Del Rio like a smart man. Now they hold their own destiny going into next Sunday where they head to Indianapolis with the fate of the divison on the line.
The Bottom 5:
28. St. Louis - How to blow a huge lead and choke in the last minute. Way to ruin a great chance to turn a corner.
29. Oakland - They finally won a division game! but they only beat the cheifs and were lucky on a Herm Edwards mistake.
30. New York Jets - Yeah that game against Pittsburgh was anomaly, or maybe Mangini's just make his team get used to getting beat down before they play New England in a few weeks.
31. San Francisco - There has been a Frank Gore siting! but you know things are bad when Trent Dilfer is doing better then your regular QB.
32. Miami - what the heck might as well give it to Ricky Williams, what have you got to lose?
Oh, and baltimre if Kyle Boller and Steve McNair can't do anything why not give Troy Smith a shot? You did draft him, and he did win the Heisman last year. He can't do much worse then he is now.
Hoping to goodness New England goes back to blowouts soon,
Chris.
