So a good friend of mine got mad at me the other day because I may have neglected on purpose to mention when my birthday is, because I do not care. So in retaliation, she sent me a Wii so I can play against her (or with her, when she stops being pissed off) online.

A, I have really awesome friends who amaze me, so here's my little happy gratitude balloon out to the universe.

B, I need help picking us some Wii games with multiplayer that do not suck. I see many Wii titles, but usually they look like they suck or are single-player only. If you have a Wii, and you play online, please help me, Obi Wan. We're planning on picking up Resi 4 and CoDWaW, and probably Madden 08 because she has that one already. Is Super Mario Galaxy or Wii Fit (don't laugh at old people) online, or couch co-op only? Clearly, I need to go shopping and talk to some teenagers, because my research is coming up empty. [Bemusement of the Day: If Gamespot emphasizes multiplayer so much, why don't they sort their game database by it?]

If I'm going to have a second console in my house making my PC jealous, I will be needing some decent single-player games to make the wrath worthwhile. No More Heroes, check. Metroid 3, check. ... ... Ok, I'm tapped out. Help me. Thank you.

I bought a Wii some two years ago and three games for it (SMG, RE4 and Metroid 3) and I've yet to play any of them in any serious or prolonged way. However, with some of the new releases my interest has been piqued again and I just started working Samus over.

As you no doubt gathered from my little tale, I'm not in a strong position to recommend games. However, Deadly Creatures and House of the Dead: Overkill both seem like fine additions to anyone's Wii library, so I'd recommend checking them out. I know I will.

Can't help you on multiplayer though. Don't even know how it works on the Wii.

house of the dead overkill is a must get atm, super smash bros brawl can be good as long as it isn't laggy. that is a good multiplayer game, mario kart wii is also online. OKAMI is also another game that should be picked up

There's a good stickied thread on the Wii titles on the Wii forum board. I don't have a Wii myself so I can't really give you any advice other than that. GabuEx is a Wii man and could probably point you in the right direction though.

"GabuEx is a Wii man"

That sounds so wrong...

Ooh, thanks guys. I'm totally getting House of the Dead for me. It looks hilarious. She has Okami, and I have it on PS2, and it is cool. Otherwise, I just got back from striking out at Gamestop, which hasn't recovered from the holiday frenzy. No House, no CoD, nada. There will be no giant spiders for me, but Samus and the Karts are go. As soon as I find someone with games in stock!

Ah, the forums. Wii didn't I think of that? First the forums, and then to rifle through GabuEx's ratings. That ought to help kill a snowy afternoon. Thanks so much, all!

(Did anyone ever see the day coming where I, of all people, would be lamenting the lack of multiplayer in anything? I sure didn't...)

True story: a co-worker of mine swears by Wii-Fit and he's an ex-Navy man in his sixties. I personally would never tangle with the guy in Wii games or IRL so something is obviously working for him. Plus this way you have a great excuse for taking a break and playing on the PC: "The Wii wore me out, I need a PC break."

Now see, there you go: if I buy Wii Fit, I can justify the Wii as exercise equipment that fits in the living room and stows under the couch. Genius! Then I can sell the Bowflex and use the garage again! And it works with the snowboarding game, so if I get dragged up to Tahoe, I won't make as big an idiot of myself...
