... plus the boogeyman: everytime, everywhere
Tim is a young man and has apparently a normal life. He has a problem, though... Ever since his childhood, he's dead scared of dark spots, closets and such, because when he was a kid he was terrified by the Boogeyman who killed his father - everyone else told him his father just left, but he knows it's not true. In his house today, there are no dark spots, every area is well lit and it's all under control, but every single fear Tim has is now back when he sleeps in his girlfriend's house. Now it's time for Tim to face his fears, fight this cruel enemy, the Boogeyman. But is it true, or is he just a lunatic?
The plot looks like things we've already watched, and that's exactly what it is: a PG-13 movie to scare teen and early-adult audiences, it shouldn't be more than that. It's not a very long movie (only 89 minutes), and I believe they could have worked more on the ending, which is very disappointing. Not that the movie builds a high expectation - it doesn't, but it's atleast decent. Like some say, atleast it's not open for a sequel (Uwe Boll, why don't you use this idea in your abysmal movies?).
One of the best things about this movie is the camera, there are some very creative moves. Some critics say it looks like a MTV video, but I disagree... What's wrong with a little camera craziness to make audiences jump? If it wasn't for these jumpy sequences, this movie would've been far worse. I consider myself someone who has watched a pretty good amount of horror flicks and, like some of you, I get tired of the same old camera tricks trying to fool the audience for a big fright - you WILL jump in this movie, believe me. These are pretty much what the movie has to offer. Acting is OK, Barry Watson and Emily Deschanel look and sound believable. CGs are just OK (not crappy like Exorcist: The Beggining, though), nothing jaw-dropping.
I give this jumpy, yet we've-all-seen-this-before movie two and a half stars out of five. If you want your girlfriend holding you really tight during the entire movie, then rent it. Otherwise, the only reason you should probably rent it is to jump a little and, well, watch one more movie. Good acting, average plot, average CGs.
