Set in 2004 on Earth, Charles Weyland, an industrialist billionaire, while using thermal imaging satellites, believes he has discovered the ruins of an ancient pyramid temple buried under the ice in Antartica. He decides to head up an archeological team to get to it. Once inside, the team finds the remains of humans with holes in their rib cages. What they don't know is that the pyramid was built for a coming-of-age ritual in which the deadly species known as Predators engage in a battle to the death with the Alien species. After the humans inadvertantly start the chain of events to get into the pyramid, three teenage Predators are coming to the temple to begin their rite of passage, but the Aliens have something else in mind.

This film was another crossover film, like Freddy vs Jason (2003), which the fans of both films wanted to happen. It was a prequel to Aliens, not Predator, due to the fact the movie was set in 2004, not 1987 like the orginal Predator film. (See me review that film later on). It was already going down in comics, graphic novels, and video games everywhere; so why wouldn't it make for a great movie? Well, after seeing it (yeah, in a movie theatre full of people who just didn't know how to keep the mouths shut), I feel it has pleased fans of both of the original series. It had it's good and bad points, as well.

As far as acting goes, the only thing I saw was a lot of people who I never seen in other movies, except a handful. Lance Henriksen, who was the android Bishop in Aliens (1986), is actually playing the creator of the Bishop android series in this film. The main actress, Sanaa Lathan, can be seen in Blade (199, as his mother. Most of the acting was simply based upon seeing the Predators or the Aliens, typical for any movie of this caliber.

For a movie that was rated PG-13, it still had plenty of gore in it, and sci-fi action associated with either of these beings. There were a few scenes that had Alien chestbursting, also the fights between Alien and Predator were somewhat gory also. (It took about an hour before they met each other in combat, but it was well worth the wait.)

And speaking of those fights, isn't The Matrix slow motion thing getting a little bit tiresome? I mean jees. It needs to stop popping it's head into EVERY movie I have seen since 1999. ENOUGH ALREADY!!! LoL!

Now, to get the crossover perfect, it was explained very well towards the conclusion of the movie about the whole coming-of-age hunt in which young Predators engage in. I won't spoil it anymore than telling you that this has been going on for centuries at a time.

Special effects were used, but very sparingly. The cloaking technology of the Predators was not entirely the same as the OG films, but it's just as good. Each Predator was different yet similar. Their weapons, appearance, armor, etc are all reminiscent of the originals. My only concern was the thermal vision was not exact to the original, but that's CG for ya! (I am a big fan of the Predator movies). The Aliens were not CG which is great! Reason being, it is a lot more realistic to have guys in the rubber suits acting out the movements. The Queen Alien was actually a steam driven puppet, but still look realistic enough to the naked eye.

My advice to anyone who wants to see this film is to watch the original of both Predator and Alien (the first and second only). It will give a lot of insight as to why the Predator does what he does, looks how he looks, and why the Aliens do what they do, etc etc. Watching the film, I noticed a lot of people freaking out because they never seen a Predator without his helmet on, or the Alien coming out of the chest, and so on.

This film is an absolute must see, for fans of either film. You will enjoy every scene from when the Predators arrive on Antartica and on. Some of the film could have been better, but it is still enjoyable. And in the end, the victor is the.....hehehe, just like my future review of Freddy vs Jason, go out and see who wins...! Cause I know who does, and I ain't about to tell you

For more insight into the Predator world, check out Predator: The Hunted. It is a cool site that goes in-depth into the Predator lore.
