Scribblenauts!

Okay I didn't wanna jump on the bandwagon, but no nevermind actually I don't mind. Scribblenauts was the most impressive game there. It seemed to have come out of nowhere at E3 and take everyone by surprise. If you don't know anything about Scribblenauts yet it's a simple premise. There's a place you have to reach on each level. However the possibilities of getting there are almost endless. You write in whatever items you can think of to reach your goal. Things like skateboards, penguins, ladders, cars, shotguns, and even God. From what I've heard people at E3 were trying to come up with words that would not register in the game and the game provided an item every single time. Incredible. This should be the best DS game ever.

I don't think there was a clear winner at E3 this year. All conference's had parts that blew me away (Metroid, Natal, GOWIII) and groaners as well (mostly in the middle section of nintendo's conference). Oh and prepare for a long read I have a lot to say I guess.

Microsoft was first and they showed off the games Rock Band Beatles, Modern Warfare 2, Splinter Cell Conviction, Final Fantasy XIII, Crackdown 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Alan Wake, Forza Motorsport 3, Halo 3 ODST and Halo Reach, Shadow Complex, Tony Hawk Ride and MGS Rising.

I really wasn't too interested since I already knew about most of these games and they aren't games I'm dying to play. Alot of them are good if you're fans of the series, but there's not alot here for me. ODST would be pointless for me to get. I don't play the single player mode in Halo 3 much + I have no interest in the Halo storyline and I am perfectly fine with the multiplayer mode. I'm not big on rpgs unless the characters and story are phenomenal so we'll see about FFXIII. It better be better than the crapfest that was FFXII. Modern Warfare 2 I may get since I missed out on the first one and I hear great things about it. Same goes for Left 4 Dead, I've played a bit of each of these games and they are both fun but I don't own them. Maybe I'll start with the sequels. Anyway doesn't Left 4 Dead 2 seem a bit too early, what could they possibly have done to make it better that quickly? I've been over music games for a while so no Rock Band Beatles for me. Forza Motorsport 3 looks great and that video thing looks awesome but I'm a strictly arcade racer so it's not for me. Tony Hawk Ride could be cool, but probably won't be...MGS Rising on 360 was cool I guess, even though it's also on ps3. At this point it's too late for me to get into that franchise, but nevertheless a good announcement. I've never even played a Splinter Cell game so I'm definitely passing on Conviction and I'm just not sold on neither Alan Wake or Shadow Complex.

Then after Microsoft showed off some neat Twitter, Facebook and Blast.FM connectivity they unveiled Project Natal. I was not impressed at first, but a bit into the footage it really grew on me. It could be the next big step in gaming. It could be a huge step over the wii. They showed off Milo which is what really blew me away. The fact that we not only have that technology, but it's open to the public is amazing. I mean it looks boring, but still I liked what I saw.

Nintendo was next and first off I want to take this time to address the ridiculous hypocrasy and disrespect from people on these forums to the wii. I've always been supportive of motion control since the wii was announced and like the South Park I wanted to freeze myself lol. Then the wii came out and it was a bit underwhelming and I was disappointed. It wasn't as immersive as I wanted it to be. But it was a step in the right direction which Nintendo took before the rest. Now that Microsoft and Sony are coming out with their competition for the wii I see all these people bashing Nintendo saying the wii is awful and useless because Microsoft's technology looks better and Sony's looks about even. Obviously these people don't understand how competition works. Nintendo's came out first, of course it's the most primitive. And do you think they're just gonna sit there and not do anything about it? Hell no maybe not next year, but they'll be back soon with something just as good if not better. And the hypocrasy is even worse. All the same people that hated the wii because motion control gameplay is too casual and they like buttons better are all going bananas over the new technology for whatever system they have. It's fanboyism at its best, but then again maybe Nintendo has been too cocky at their press conferences.

So onto the conference. It started off really strong in my opinion with the announcement of New Super Mario Bros. on the Wii. I'm really excited about this because I've been waiting for something like it for a long time. Kind of like Little Big Planet, but with the fantastic control of Mario Bros. It's a great feeling when a game you imagined comes true. Then after that it got really lame. Wii Fit Plus, expected and not my thing. Wii Sports Resort should be good I can't wait for Motion Plus and the first opportunity to try out 1:1 motion control. They talked about all the games taking advantage of Motion Plus including Red Steel 2 which looks a helluva lot better than the poor first game. Then they showed a bunch of trailers mostly of games we already knew about. Final Fantasy Crystal Bearers, Kingdom Hearts, Mario and Luigi 3 and Golden Sun DS. Alot of people are excited about a new Golden Sun and it does look pretty good. I love the Mario and Luigi series also so 3 is a mustbuy for me. Then they announced yet another Mario game in Mario vs. Donkey kong on the dsi. They showed a trailer of a game called ****Savvy which was the low point of all of E3 this year. Good job. A game on the DS called C.O.P. which probably will suck. Then some mystery game which was boring. They introduced the Vitality Sensor which is just stupid. Why did they even unveil it when they didn't even know how they were gonna use it in games? Then finally they had another big game announcement. Super Mario Galaxy 2 sequel to one of this generation's finest games and one of the best Marios ever. Looks like it's more varied than the first which was the one nitpick of the first. Then they showed off trailers for the conduit, resident evil darkside chronicles and dead space extraction. I may get the conduit depending on reviews and probably will atleast rent it. I'm bound to try out one of these wii light gun games that keep coming out eventually. Could be one of these, both have potential to be a great light gun game. Which is...still not a deep experience. At this point I thought it was over and I was incredibly disappointed because there was not one big announcement for a non Mario game. Seriously even the biggest mario fan gets tired of Mario. But then the biggest surprise thinkable happened. Metroid Other M. This stole the show for me. Team Ninja the guys behind the incredible Ninja Gaiden series teamed up with Nintendo to make an action Metroid game grittier than any before? I'm sold. And they managed to surprise me, this really raised my opinion of their conference. Alot.

And finally Sony's which I admittedly did not watch most of and was mostly paying attention to my yearbook I just got seeing as I don't have a ps3. So naturally I don't have as much to say. I think they had the best game line up though. They had a lot of psp games apparently I didn't see that part though. Also the leaked PSP Go, I'm not sure if people like this and I don't know anything about it so nothing to say then. Good to hear the psp is still being supported though and hanging in there. They showed a trailer for Gran Turismo 5 but once again, I'm not really a sim racer guy. The God of War III demo looked AWESOME. Another game I really wish i had a ps3 for. It sucks thinking the last GOW I will play through could be the one that ended in a cliffhanger. In my opinion the new playstation controller is too similar too the wii and feels like a me too thing unlike Microsoft who really innovated with theirs. So they get no points for that. They are making some LBP racer game and a very interesting game from Team ICO called The Last Guardian. They also showed Uncharted 2, that series seems great.

So they all have their pros and cons and I really couldn't tell you who won. Many will say Nintendo's was worst, but that's okay it was pretty bad if you're not a fan of Mario or Metroid. And no Wii Zelda Kid Icarus, Pikmin 3, F-Zero, or Star Fox was a bit weird. But the press conferences as a whole were great, they had something for everyone. Except fighting game fans. >.>

Anyway since this blog is already the longest thing ever freakin written I'll just add some more stuff. I got Halo 3 and The Orange Box. Those two games have convinced me that I suck at online shooters. But I won't give up! I graduate next Thursday that should be notable for me I guess lol. It took me 20 ranked matches of street fighter iv online before I lost last night. I don't mean to brag but I must've became a street fighter stud all of a sudden. Err let's see...Portal is awesome...Umm one of the windows in my car is broken and won't roll up which is quite bad in this world that we live in where people will.....crap I'm rambling, this blog is long enough. See ya. If you managed to read this whole thing you are a god.

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
There were some really hillarious moments in the movie, and the plot was pretty good, but the movie stalls in some areas. It's not Will Ferrel's greatest movie, but it's atleast good and probably in his top 5. Shake and Bake baby!

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
The critically acclaimed Borat surprised me more than almost any movie has ever surprised me before. I laughed throughout the entire movie. Everybody did. Try to catch your breath because this Kazakhstan has made the funniest movie ever.

X-Men
Better than the third. But not as good as the second film in the Xmen series. It was a little bit more low key of a movie than the sequels. The character depth was much better though and Magneto was much cooler.

X2: X-Men United
By far the best of the xmen films. More characters than the first, and much more depth than the third. (Also less annoying.) The effects and story were great which is how all movies should be. I'd go so far to say that this movie is much better...

X-Men: The Last Stand
I always wanted them to have Angel in the films. I didn't want them to lose Nightcrawler, and I didn't want it to suck though. The story seems forced through the entire film I was a bit disappointed. See it for the effects.
