Dear Konami,
I'd like to thank you first for bringing me the adventures of Solid Snake, Naked Snake and Liquid Snake. No, not porn. I'm talkin about the Metal Gear Solid series. The games in that series are some of my favorite games of all time. But sadly, I heard someone representing your company say that "Metal Gear was born on the Playstation, and we'd like to keep it on the Playstation... but we may have to take steps otherwise to make our money back"... First off, I hate to remind you, but Metal Gear was born onthe MSX system and then the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in Japan and America. In fact, Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 (the original MSX Metal Gear 2, not the horrible insult to the series that was Metal Gear 2 Snakes Revenge... ugh.) were hits in Japan before there was a such thing as a Playstation. And because you know that it was the MSX and the NES that gave birth to Hideo Kojima's greatest series, you even saw fit to remake the third true game, Metal Gear Solid, for the Nintendo Gamecube (released as Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes). Yes, the most successful Metal Gear games have been Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3, all of which released on the Playstation and the Playstation 2 that followed. But times have changed.
The days of third party developers sticking to one console is coming to a close. The high developement cost that making next generation block buster games racks up is enough reason on its own to make the multiplatform approach an obvious win win situation. Add to the fact that the Playstation 3 is not doing so well, in part due to their high price, in part due to the lack of AAA Games, it would seem a better idea to bring the game out for more than one system.
Look at your competition. Capcom is bringing their "born on the Playstation 2" series, Devil May Cry, as well as Ace Combat, to the X-Box 360 as well as the PS3 (Devil May Cry 4 will hit both systems, Ace Combat 6 will hit XB360 first). SquareEnix is breakingup theirFinal Fantasy franchise into multiple series to supporteach next gen system withvarious spin offs.PS3 gets Final Fantasy XIII,Nintendo Wii gets Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and DragonsQuest, and X-Box 360 gets Final Fantasy XI and their latest franchise, Last Remnant. Ubisoft is bringing its next big title, Assassins Creed to both PS3 and XB360. Same can be said for Mercenaries 2 and Rockstars Grand Theft Auto 4.
Sodo your fans a favor, bring us Metal Gear Solid4 to the X-Box 360, as well as thePS3. Sure, we all bought Metal Gear on thePlaystation and Playstation 2 in the past, but times were different then.Sony's systems were on top. Now things have changed. More people own X-Box 360's and Nintendo Wii's than PS3. And many of us that do are fans of Metal Gear, but just can't bring ourselves to pay $600 for a system justto play one game (even if that game is as important as Metal Gear)...
Oh, and give Hideo Kojima a bonus. He is the man after all...
A loyal fan
Jason Gibson
