Well today was the first day of school for me! All I had was a 3 hour lecture starting from 11 and ending at 2. The course was Object Oriented Programming, not one of my favorite subjects since I'm terrible at coding. But the prof who's teaching the course used to be one my favorite TAs, so that's good. Hopefully I can learn a ton since last year's programming course was kinda...bad...in terms of prof and marks (course I passed, but still I coulda done better). Anyways, all we did was go through the course outline, and a bit of review of basic programming. Luckily I still remembered most, if not all so I felt a bit prepared.

Anyways after clas.s was over, I decided to hang around for a few more hours with some friends before finally heading off home.

In other news, mainly gaming news, I've started a ton of games to kick off the new semester. Though it's not a good idea. So I started with Super Metroid, the classic SNES game that I know a lot of people mention when talking about the Metroid series. I personally have only beaten Metroid Prime 1 & 2 so I'm a little unfamiliar with the 2D Metroid games.

Fight a variety of bosses as bounty hunter, Samus Aran.

If you can't guess, I'm playing with a keyboard and it's really awkward to play sometimes. If I want to aim diagonally up or down, I have to use the L or R button, but that's placed right above where I configured my default shooting button. So it's a little weird trying to aim, jump and shoot sometimes. Also it's a bit harder to make precise jumps with arrow keys but I'm doing the best I can. Overall it's a solid game, it reminds me A LOT of Metroid Prime, which is funny since many say Metroid Prime is like a 3D version of Super Metroid.

I'm also starting up Final Fantasy I on the PSP. I'm not too far since I'm currently grinding at the moment, I made my typical party of Warrior, Monk, Black Mage and White Mage. Normally I'd name them after characters from other FFs (according to ****of course) but this time I let the game generate names for me. I'm really enjoying the PSP version, despite the graphical upgrade making it weird to look at. But I'll adjust. Final Fantasy I, along with II and IX are my favorites (IX being at the top) so of course it'll be fun for me.

It's ****c Final Fantasy at it's finest.

I'm also playing some games from the Ys series. Though it's not a well known series in NA, it's a fairly solid Action RPG. I can't divulge much detail about the Ys games (other than the fact that Oath loves em) since I'm not familiar with most of em myself. I'm currently playing Legacy of Ys: Books I & II on the DS which is Ys I and II combined. I'm also starting up Ys Origin. Which serves as a prequel to the entire series.

It doesn't look spectacular, but it gets the job done in telling a pretty solid story with good gameplay.

To make this short, I'll just mention one more game. I also started, what is known as the worst RPG ever made. That's right, Unlimited Saga. I was curious about this game since I've never tried it myself. 15 minutes of playing it nearly drove me insane. I couldn't make a lick of sense out of ANYTHING I was doing. There's no in game tutorial either that explains how the battle system work, how the Map Movement system thing works either. I spent a good amount of time just trying to figure out how to move on the map, how attacking would work, what the slots did, how to even get GOOD at the slots, what the symbols meant. Overall, it's just a big mess with a solid art **** I'll be giving it more of a try obviously, and hopefully I'll be able to beat it.

Interesting but unexplained battle system makes this a tough cookie to swallow.

Anyways I think that's it for games. I have other minor ones that don't have major priority such as Vagrant Story which I finally decided to start just to see what the craze is about. I also STILL have to finish My World, My Way on the DS just so I can start up Steal Princess. I'm sure there are more but that'll be it for now. Don't want to be starting more than I can handle.

Vagrant Story is another game with an interesting combat mechanic.

The game's just a GIANT grindfest + repetition. I don't suggest playing it unless you like those two things combined.

I don't know what it's about, but the name leaves me intrigued.

Also I'll be changing my avatar and blog header soon. Too many people have been asking me who the girl is, if it's me and asking me strange questions through PMs and such. As such I'll have to be taking her down, as to what I'll change it to, I'm not sure, I didn't think so many people wondered.

Anyways, I'm still playing BlazBlue online, so hit me up on PSN (silvur2) if you want. I believe that's all for now...

This is silvur saying, stay awesome!

dang i gotta finish ys 6...
Posted Sep 10, 2009 10:54 pm PT
lol you sound like me by starting and playing so many games that you'll probably never find time to beat them all. I hate playing games on a keyboard bleh. Steal Princess is a game I've been interested in for a while now but never got around to picking it up. It'll probably become quite rare if it hasn't already.

I'm near the end of Final Fantasy I have'nt started II yet but I will

The 2D metroid games are fun, but annoying at times in terms of progress. I never finished Super Metroid, i kept getting lost and confused as to where to go next. I've got some new emulation going on, so i'm giving it another go. That's a lot of RPGs. I haven't played any of them to tell the truth, but i have heard a lot about Vagrant Story.

That is a nice list of games you have. This blog reminded me to finish FF1 and FF2 as I am almost done with both of them but PS3 took my attention away from PSP.

I went for four warriors in Final Fantasy. Believe it or not it's much easier with that then using any other classes

Vagrant Story is an awesome game. That's a lot of games you're playing there, hope you enjoy them all.

By the way, regarding not enough time in the world - I think that will not mean anything once 2012 arrives since the life is supposed to end sometime in 2012, according to the mayans.

Oh what a shame .. the avatar was rly cool .. and maaaan that's a lot of gaming ahead of ya ..

Good luck with finishing all of them and with Skool ..

The lecture sounds bad. But enjoy anyway(except for Unlimited Saga of course).
Posted Sep 11, 2009 1:24 pm PT
Good luck with school, and I hope you enjoy the games.
Posted Sep 11, 2009 3:06 pm PT
Agreed. Although with 2009 lacking in the games department compared to other years, its atleast allowed me to shrink my back catolog by alot. Hoping to come into 2010 fresh!

OT: Dude, why did you get rid of your P4 sig? It was awesome. I mean the new ones alright, but nothing beats Yukiko.

Yea i super metroid is a very good game, and im glad they managed to translate the same feel the 2D games had to the prime games. Guess ill have to stay away from "my world my way" since grinding is one of the reasons i dont play a whole lot of RPG'S, ugh the grinding!
Posted Sep 12, 2009 12:37 am PT
The next blog u do is about you stop playing Unlimited Saga. Told you so.
Posted Sep 12, 2009 1:59 am PT
Playing platformers on a keyboard is akin to trying ice-skating for the first time. Its slippery. Ah, Vagrant Story, another great game that I missed out on.
Posted Sep 12, 2009 2:40 am PT
quite a lot of games you're playing now.. good luck beating it
and btw i like your current avi and sig

@loggens Haha maybe You should definety play BlazBlue. 2 months and still going strong, I don't think I've been addicted to a fighter like this since Super Smash Bros. Melee.

@funsohng At least you're on 6, I'm still on 2 >_>

@Bigboi500 Yea, I really try to restrain myself from playing too many at once just so I can actually beat some games but it's really tempting when you start to feel like you're getting nowhere with games and want to start new.

@Hanzoadam Enjoying it? While people can tolerate I, a lot of people tend to dislike II so who knows.

@Katzenbalger Yea only 2D Metroid games I played prior to Super was Fusion and Zero Mission which were fun, but super confusing. I'm currently playing Super Metroid with a guide so it isn't too bad but honestly, I don't think I could've gotten as far as I am without one.

@Sean2moore Thanks! And finish it, they're both pretty short games

@AzelKosMos That actually sounds pretty difficult...the lack of healing...all game? Oh well better than 4 monks or 4 white mages.

@sevansoares Thanks I will!

@Just-Adam Thanks, trying to get a good balance between the two, its hard but I'll manage somehow.

@gormo4 Thanks, enjoy Scribblenauts
Posted Sep 12, 2009 2:01 pm PT
@danwarecritic Thanks, I'll endure somehow. Oh and I already gave up on Unlimited Saga...terrible game.

@Azure_Valkyrie Thanks! I'll get through it all somehow.

@shutdown_202 Yup, 2008 was a pretty solid year but this year kinda feels lacklustre for some reason. Still some good games out there but I've felt like I've been playing more old school games more. As for the sig question, which one are you talking about? I had like a bunch of P4 sigs, most if not all had Yukiko

@Gohansephiroth Yea I was quite surprised. As for the grinding, I don't mind it...as long as the battles are interesting or it doesn't become the main staple of the game (cough Dragon Quest). But My World, My Way just takes it a bit too far...

@Lightfellower Just maybe! Though it only took a day for me to stop, there isn't much to tell. (Btw you need to finish P4!)

@david_lck Yea I really don't like playing emulated SNES games...can't seem to find an appropriate key configuration that'll work.

@riou7 Thanks and thanks Though I'm thinking of changing it already, this Samus sig really isn't my style at all.

SKOOL IS KOOL.
I haven't played any of those.
Well, I started them, but my short attention span doesn't really help when it comes to actually playing them. ._.;

Good job giving Super Metroid a go Bryan. Shame that you have to play with a stinkin keyboard though.

As for Vagrant Story. It's one of my favorite RPGs. Just another representation of how awesome Square was during the PS1 era when they were known as Squaresoft. Before the merger destroyed them.
Posted Sep 12, 2009 7:17 pm PT
@Yoweeh So typical of you. And school is not cool, don't trust the people who say that!!

@SavoyPrime Yes I'm expecting a quality RPG when playing through Vagrant Story, it's a weird twist of fate that after the merge, they became worse. Two of the best RPG companies, failing together? Oh well.
Posted Sep 13, 2009 5:54 am PT
Who knows what went wrong Bryan. I guess we should have seen this coming when they merged on April Fool's Day of 2003.
Posted Sep 13, 2009 7:56 am PT
@ Silvurcross - I ll try to finish them and the problem is that I started playing them a while ago then I stopped. Once I tried to play them recently and I was stuck because I do not know where to go or what is the next objective of the game. Oh well.

Wow I didn't think the PSP version of FF looked that good. I might have to go pick them up again. Is it worth it if you have Dawn of Souls?
Posted Sep 27, 2009 5:43 pm PT
@Ragnarok1051 Not really, all you get is an extra dungeon. The Labyrinth of Time or something, face some ultimate boss which I believe is incredibly hard.
Posted Sep 27, 2009 7:11 pm PT
I am probably gonna get a PS3 soon. Do you suggst getting blazblue, or just waiting for FFXIII?
Posted Sep 29, 2009 5:27 pm PT
@VXLbeast I suggest getting both. Though I might wait on BlazBlue since BlazBlue 2 is being made or something and it's the same thing except like 2 new characters and modified battle mechanics. So it's up to you, it's still an awesome fighting game regardless.
Posted Sep 29, 2009 7:33 pm PT
I think Vagrant Story is awsome and in my opinion is one of the best games for PS.
But this one still lack a sequel.
