I'm a terrible blogger! I now remember why I haven't done countdowns like this in the past...I'm simply too lazy to get around to finishing them.
Not only that, but I've been really bad lately at reading and commenting on everyone else's blogs...so please don't hate me too much, I'm gonna try to get around to catching up on that soon. Anyhow, here it is, forever later, the final part of my list. As usual, it's my list, not yours, and watch out for spoilers.
10. Daniel "Oz" Osborne- Buffy the Vampire Slayer
I completely adore Oz in every way possible. There's nothing that's not awesome about him. He was almost always able to keep his cool no matter what kind of pressure, and he's one half of my favorite couples ever, so that alone scores him major points for me. His exit on the show is one of those things that breaks my heart every single time I watch his last episode. Plus, I love Seth Green, so that's enough of a reason for me to have Oz in my top 10. ![]()
9. Willow Rosenberg- Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Oh, how our little Will grew. She went from being the sort of nerdy side kick to probably the most powerful character in the entire 'verse all together. She is by far the character who grew the most on Buffy, not just with her magic, but as a person in general. Plus she's so stinkin' cute, and it's near impossible not to cry when she makes her sad face. ![]()
8. Mason- Dead Like Me
There simply aren't enough words for me to express how much I love Mason. He's so funny, and he fits in so well with his group of misfit reapers. He's just Mason, sick, twisted, hilarious Mason. How can you not love the man? ![]()
7. Pacey Witter- Dawson's Creek
Pacey J. Witter was that first character that really turned me into a fangirl, way before I even knew what a fangirl was.
It's scary, I know, but the whole underdog thing, plus his natural charm really worked for him, and he had me at day one. Granted I was like, 16 when DC first aired, but he was, and still is my favorite character on that show. Plus, you have to admit that the fact that he got the girl, not once, but twice, while being a side kick none the less, speaks volumes about him.
6. Anya Jenkins- Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Anya is, in my opinion, probably the funniest (and cutest
) of all the scoobies. She was a great addition to the show in S4, which I have to admit I wasn't too sure about during S3, but it didn't take long for me to change my mind about her. She was a great fit for Xander, and is very much missed, by pretty much everyone.
5. Logan Echolls- Veronica Mars
Despite the fact that he started out as the obligatory psychotic jack @ss in the series premiere, I still loved him from minute one. Jason Dohring played him so perfectly, and in a way that made you feel for Logan long before you even knew how broken he really was.
4. Dean Winchester- Supernatural
Ok, so I really struggled with where to put Dean, as I don't think that he can really exist without Sam...so I had a hard time deciding who would come first, and how far apart they would be, and all that. I know that must seem sort of silly, but it really was a hard decision for me to make. Ultimately, I decided to put Dean in my top 5 because, well, I think he's a tad more on the damaged side. Everything that both the boys have been through, plus the knowledge that his father sacrificed himself in order for him to live, on top of the possibly that he may have to kill his brother one day, and then going to hell on top of all that...makes for some excellent broody man angst...which, lets be honest here, I'm a total sucker for. ![]()
3. Faith Lehane- Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel
I have this feeling that I'm gonna catch some slack for having her so high on my list, but I feel for her too much not to have her on it. Even when she was full on evil, there was something about her that sucked me right in. I don't think, at least not on Buffy, that her story was explained well enough for some people to be able to relate to her on a level besides psycho slayer who tried to kill everyone. I guess that's why I preferred her when she was on Angel a tad more. I thought there, at least, Angel saw her for what she was, which was a confused, sick girl who needed serious help. He could reach her on a level that Buffy never could, which is why she was able to get to a breaking point with him that she couldn't do while in Sunnydale. She has always been, and is still to this day, my favorite slayer....I'm gonna start ducking the rocks being thrown my way right about now....![]()
2. Winifred "Fred" Burkle- Angel
So, I'm about to start my Amy gushing, yet again...so be prepared.
I simply adore Amy, and I pretty much loved Fred from the first moment I saw her. I loved her so much in fact, that I named my 3 year old Basset Hound after her. She was a perfect addition to the show in S3. Scary smart, incredibly sweet, and funny in her own right. Even to this day, it's somewhat difficult for me to watch A Hole In the World, as it is likely one of the most painful episodes of television that I have ever watched in the history of me watching television. It's utterly heart breaking to watch her die in Wesley's arms the way she did. Ugh, even talking about it makes me all depressed.
While I do love Illyria, losing Fred in order to get her was way on the harsh side. But that's what Joss Whedon is best at I guess, making us love someone so that when he kills them it's like we lost an arm or something, it hurts so bad. Sometimes, I swear, I really hate that guy. ![]()
1. Wesley Wyndam-Pryce- Angel / Buffy the Vampire Slayer
So, I'm sure it's no surprise to some that Wes is pretty much my favorite character ever. In my opinion, of all the characters to pass through the entire 'verse, Wesley is by far the one who grew the most. He started out as bumbling young watcher, and ended up a confident, yet somewhat tortured and dark member of Angel's crew. His transformation through out Angel's 5 seasons is one of things I love most about watching it. There is never a moment where I don't feel for him in every way possible. I love rogue demon hunter Wesley, kidnapping Connor Wesley, sleeping with Lyla Wesley, the Wesley who loved & lost Fred before they could ever really be, and the Wesley whom despite all that, tried to help Illyria find her place in the world. But you see, since I loved him that much, Joss Whedon had to kill him off. Again I say, I really hate him sometimes...![]()
Well, that pretty much does it. It's likely I won't do another count down like this for a while, so I hope everyone enjoyed.
My blogs will probably be a little on the lame side from here on out, so I'll go ahead and apologize for that now. Good night all!
Comments
I loved Oz dry humor (This is my sarcastic voice sums it up). Sadly, there wasn't much story arch for him so I get that he left. More story would have been fine but I would have settled for keeping him around with his comments forever.
Willow is great. And Yay Mason,
Anya is wonderful, I agree. I really liked Logan as well and I am kind of obsessed with Dean, who isn't?
Faith is probably a little high for my taste but I agree that she was wonderful on Angel. She annoyed me sometimes on Buffy (I guess the chance is higher that I will catch some slack, now
Fred is just great (what a cute name for a dog!
Great countdown. Have a good time relaxing from that.
No point arguing placement because there isn't a correct order it's preference, I think Willow & Dean would be Top 10 for me definitely
So your Basset Hound is called 'Fred' for short right?!
Anyway, Awesome blog!
I start a "countdown" or a list, then...move on to some other stuff...and almost forget about it!
------
Anyways, I loved Pacey...but... only til he started to like Joey. Then I stopped loving his character....
Love Oz, so great. Granted I love Tara more but I still do love Oz and was so sad to see him go, he and Willow were cute and Oz was just so cool in every way. Loved him. The same goes for Willow.
PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACEY!!!! I adore Pacey more then words can describe, especially with Joey! I mean alone he's fantastic but with Joey, it's just fanfreakingtastic. They were so great and he was so great and I just love that he got the girl, not once but twice even though it wasn't his show. And did I mention PAAAAAAACEY!
I wouldn't go so far as to hit you with a rock, I mean ouch! But I've never been a fan of Faith, I kind of hate her actually but that's because I could never get past all the thing she do to Buffy and co. over the years especially when all they did was try and help her time and time again and she spat on them. I could just never forgive her for all the awful things she did and I knew from minute she was introduced one that something was up, that she would do something bad eventually. That's part of why I get so mad too. None of the scoobies saw it coming and it was so obvious.
I love love love love love Amy Acker especially as Fred. There are so many Angel characters that I love that I find it very difficult to pick just one let alone a couple but she's always top 5. Always. I missed her so much when she was killed and to this day burst into tears each and every time I watch A Hole In The World, it's one the saddest things ever. Like you I loved Illyria too, especially because of Amy's kicking portrayal of her I just wish that there had been so way we could have gotten them both though that would have obviously been impossible because Amy couldn't really play them both and I wouldn't have either of them played by another person. As I said it's nearly impossible for me to pick one Angel character as my solid unwavering favorite but when I really think about it Wesley always wins out. Always. He was the most developed, the most changed. It was so sad to watch him go through so many terrible things over the years though and then to top it all off he finally got the girl he had loved for years only to lose her less then a month later, talk about unfair. Fred's death was made even sadder by all this, especially for Wesley's sake. But after all this as hard as it was to see him die and as sad as it was his death felt like the only course left for him to take.
For what it is worth I really enjoyed reading this but I do know that sometimes these quizzes can be a little unfun because they take a lot of effort!
mafalada- First off, I looove your icon.
I agree with you on Oz, I would've been ok if he stuck around post his split with Willow just in order to keep his most awesome commentary going....but I get why he had to go.
And I love Callum Blue as well. I can not wait for the DLM movie to be released so I can finally get me some fresh new Mason lines.
I get why some people don't like Faith, and they did sometimes cheese her out way too much on Buffy, which sort of annoyed me. I think that's one of the reasons why I preferred her on Angel more.
badgersmuffin- I do call her Fred, or Fredikins mostly. I've never seen the comic that you're talking about, but I'm thinking that someone at my vet's office mentioned it once. I love my dog, she's pretty much my world, but Basset Hounds can be kind of tricky...very stubborn breed, and they do some really bizzarre things at times. You have to have a good sense of humor in order to own one.
alguna- Oh no, a D/J shipper...
SMGslayer- Haha, I knew if anyone would appriciate Pacey it would be you!
I too have a hard time picking a favorite Angel character, as there really isn't one that I don't absolutely love. But ultimately, Fred & Wes always come out on top. Probably throughout the whole time I was making this list I switched their postions back a forth on more than a few occasions. But watching how much Wes developed over the years, and every painful thing he had to endure is what really wins me over. And I'll agree that one of the things that makes Fred's death so sad is what it did to Wesley. It's almost too heartbreaking to watch. I'd also agree that while him dying was very sad, it was sort of necessary. I guess I just felt like he was finished in a way.
NJZ- Yay, someone else who loves Faith! I tell ya, I've caught some serious flack over the years for my Faith support. But I can't help it, I've always felt sympathetic towards her. Plus, I feakin' love Eliza Dushku, so that might have something to do with it as well.
I've gotten behind on blogs too,
Pacey is amazing. I fangirled over him before I knew what fangirling was too!
I like Dean a lot, but I prefer Sammy. But I agree they're kind of two halves of one whole
Yeah, Angel was definetly more in the grey area. I loved Faith & Angel together because they were so much alike, but I have to say that a part of me enjoyed her & Wes together in S4 a bit more. It was like they were both finally at a point in their lives where they could be watcher & slayer, like they were supposed to. It was almost sort of sweet to watch.
And I can't believe that Logan was dethroned!
I haven't watched GG much, but I can see a bit of Logan in Chuck... so I guess that makes sense.
Besides, Logan's one of those characters that never really leaves you, no matter whom you fall for next.
He's kind of like Pacey in that way. I think there's still some part of me that wishes I had my own Pacey Witter...Ah see! He's still able to bring out the fangirl in me, and I've worked so hard to keep her hidden! ![]()
You know, some days I do prefer Sam a little more, but most days my heart belongs to Dean.
And not to repeat myself, or you really, but one wouldn't be the same without the other...so ultimately I guess I love them both the equally. Wow, I really contradicted myself there, didn't I?
As for Bela & Ruby...well, I actually liked Ruby quite a bit. I though Katie Cassidy did a great job with her, and I'll be sad if we don't get Ruby back in some capacity, despite Katie not being able to play her. I think she was important in helping Sam to start going down his dark path, and I'd like to see that continue into next season. Bela, well, I didn't hate her, but she wasn't my favorite either. I think in general the writers sort of failed in developing her as a character.
She had some great moments though, and I think it would've been interesting to see where she may have gone, had she not been dragged to hell and all. ![]()
Wow that ended up a lot longer than I intended...sorry about that!
I'm not a D/J shipper either.
I just liked the beginning of the series when they were all, kinda... like a group of friends...
Yeah, I'll always love Logan. Pacey was the first bad boy I loved and all the male characters I've loved since then have been bad boy-type guys! You should try out GG a bit if you don't hate it too much... Chuck is awesome. I love him so, he has that same nihilistic streak that Logan possessed and they're both manwhores. Plus Ed Westwick is an excellent actor, he's probably the best thing about GG.
Lol! I get what you're saying. I think the journey of Sam and Dean is just the greatest love story ever told!
Yeah Ruby was fabulous -- I'm hoping they'll bring back her character and that she'll always reappear in the show in one form or another. I agree about Bela; the failure came in the writers trying to make her look 'cool' rather than interesting and slightly vulnerable -- the human value was added too little too late.
What I saw of GG wasn't bad, I just had so much on going on in the tv watching area last year that I couldn't take on another show. I may look into it again though, since you're reccomending it.
I too love me some bad boys, obviously
I just can't help it. Like you said, it all started with Pacey for me, it's like he set the tone for every male character that I've ever loved. ![]()
Haha, greatest love story ever told... I think you're right about that!
Also thanks for your comment over on Tox's blog... Made me feel good that someone thinks my advice could be useful
And hey, good advice deserves to recognized.
