Ok, second season of "Heroes" (Generations right?) is on and I'm not exactly exited about it. After watching the first season I just didn't understand why all the hype around it, but that's me… I would need to watch the whole thing again (and write hell of a lot better) in order to make a more detailed review, so I'll just point the positive and negative aspects of the show to me.
The good stuff:
- The score is great. I really like it.
- The plot itself is very unoriginal, but the series creator, Tim Kring, managed to come up with a very interesting story.
- Sylar – I only knew Zachary Quinto from the third season of "24" and his character was quite boring. However, he is the best thing on Heroes. I love complex characters like that.
- Claire – Another great character, even though, without her hability she would be dead before the series even start. I'm not talking about her "attempts" on camera but those freak incidents like the rape attempt or, worst, when the football player broke her neck.
- Hiro – Nothing will convince me that Masi Oka is a good actor, but he got charisma. That counts.
- Peter / Isaac Mendez / Matt / Mr. Bennet / Ando – they're pretty cool to.
- The scene when Hiro from the future freezes time on the subway ("Now you want me to stalk a heroin addict who allegedly paints the fu-t-u-r-e"). Looks lame, but that's my favorite scene on S1.
- The Season finale – I read a lot of negative reviews about that episode. To me fits perfectly with the rest of the season: good, not great.
I'm still undecided about Nathan and Mohinder. I just don't know if I like Nathan or not. Mohinder is strange to me: Sendhil may be the worst actor I've ever seen but I quite like the character.
The bad:
- "Save the Cheerleader, save the world" – worst tagline ever.
- The Deveaux chick – Does anyone felt sad when they finally got rid of her?
- Nikki her son and her husband – They all have cool powers, but the boy is just boring. Ali Later is beautiful (she's no Carrie-Ann Moss, but anyway) but her job on this series is terrible, I can't tell the difference between her and "Jessica", and her husband... I mean, it would make any difference if the 3 just disappeared of the face of the earth?
- They killed good characters to soon, like the girl who can make others do whatever she wants or the fast learner girl that Hiro tries to save (forgot her names, sorry), the "nuclear" guy and so on. On the other hand, annoying people like Deveaux, or even Nikki and her family waste a lot of time with their pointless appearances. Go figure…
- Stan Lee's "special appearance" – that was just embarrassing.
I focused mainly on characters. I have some problems with the scripts (there is a lot of episodes where nothing relevant seems to happen, some dialogues are horrible – "Paint the future without me on it (or something like that)"- , but I won't go to far. Actually, I couldn't go to far even if I wanted, I'm not a critic and my english is limited. I liked the series and I want to watch S1 again (I'll probably rent the DVD or borrow from some friend). To me it's good, but not great.
Btw, I watched the first 2 episodes of the second season and all I could think of is that Tim Kring is really testing our patience…
Later.
