I am going to beat all of the Final Fantasy games within one year.

I have debated whether or not I posess the dedication required to take this project on. After weighing the pros and cons I think it is time for me to make my decision. I will be playing though the first main 12 Final Fantasy games, one per month, to completion for the next year. I plan on reporting on each game as I play through them. Of course, I will have to substitute Final Fantasy XI Online for with another title (X-2, Crisis Core, etc) as it is an online title that never ends.

I already own each game and they are all just waiting to be played. I have already beaten some games in full but I will have to play them again in order to keep them all fresh in my mind. I am having trouble deciding where to start. It would make sense to begin with Final Fantasy as it is the first one and progress through them numerically to see how the series has progressed. It would also be nice to start in the middle somewhere and alternate between newer titles and older ones to see some real contrast. Any suggestions would be welcome.

This is something I plan to undertake after I play though the Japanese Final Fantasy XIII demo on PS3. I have ordered it and once it gets here I want to play it thoroughly and report on how the game looks and plays. I plan on being done with all of the Final Fantasy games in one year, and hopefully before Final Fantasy XIII actually releases in the States. If time allows, I will include the various side stories like Crisis Core, Dirge of Cererus, X-2, The After Years; but my focus will be on the main original games.

I will update this blog as I play through each game. This is a good place to talk all things Final Fantasy so please feel free to talk to me and/or each other about this amazing series. If you have questions for me or any of the games, please post them here. Chances are, this will be a good place to find your answer.

For me, this is a very serious goal that I hope to accomplish. I am a full time worker and student so this will be tough for me to do, plus I have a GF (a girlfriend, not Guardian Force... dork!) and she's not going to just let me off date nights that easily. It's going to take a lot of dedication and commitment to do this. I'll need some support and encouragement so feel free to push me along the way.

My adventure will begin after the FF XIII demo is played through and I expect it here this week. I will be sure to let you all know what the game is like thus far.In the time before FF XIII, I will probably play a little of the beginning of each game to try to decide where to start. Again, any suggestions are welcome. I'll make me decision soon. The way I figure it, each game averages about 50 hours; some more, some less. That means if I give an hour and a half of play to each game everyday, I should be able to do this.

For now, that's all I have. Wish me luck!

You're gonna need it. Not to doubt you but if you want to keep your relationship, this will be almost impossible for you to do. Goodluck anyways

Wow, that will take a while, but no doubt, will be a very fun experience. Are you going to be going through the whole games -sidequests and all- or just finishing the campaigns?

that would be a pretty sweet one. just dont let it get in the way of your life, its not worth that much. but i believe in you. im sure you will even crush the side games too. goodluck.

Thank you all for your concerns about my personal life. I figure it's not that big of a difference considering the fact that i already play a lot of games. I'll just put my focus on Final Fantasy games rather than all the other stuff that's out there. Sure, I'll miss out on the new stuff as it comes but by the time I'm done, I'll be able to get all the stuff I missed at reduced prices. Also, I'll save a ton of money if I just focus on Final Fantasy games for a year.

I want to do the whole game. At least that's my goal. I might take it as it comes with each game though. We'll just have to see where it all leads. Since I first posted this, I've already begun the first couple hours or so of Final Fantasy X. I've decided to either begin with that one of Final Fantasy VII. After I decide, then I'll play through it and update everyone on my progress. I'll also provide full impressions of each game as I go. After beating X or VII, I'm going to go back to an old-school title to give it some contrast.

This is going to be a hell of a good time! I just hope I don't get burnt out on Final Fantasy (LOL, like that could ever happen).

That'll be a pretty noteworthy feat if you do it! I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks again for all of your support. Oh, Almighty-mints, I know what you mean about II but fair is fair and I have to make sure to include it as it is a main part of the series. I don't think it'll be too bad. I'll just force myself through it and get it out of the way as one of the earlier titles.

This endeavor needs more Chocobo Racing.

I wish you good luck sir. I hope your school and social life won't be hit too hard. I however have no social life. Maybe I should get a boyfriend...

Though I love Final Fantasy, I don't think I could do what you're doing. I would probably get burned out on FF. I seem to have OCD when it comes to RPGs. I can't help but try to do a 100% complete run (every sidequest, open every treasure chest, get all legendary weapons, etc.) on every RPG that I play on every playthrough.

Hey! Someone should try to beat all the Mario games in one year. I mean ALL of them!

Well everyone, an update is in order. Though I have not received my Final Fantasy XIII demo yet, I have begun playing both Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy VII. I have about 7 hours in FFX and I have about 25 hours in FFVII. At the same time, I'm maintaining my Dissidia play which I've played every single day since it's release consecutively. So far, I'm not burnt out. After the demo arrives and after I give it a good play through, I'll give a full report on it and then I'll decide if I will focus completely on FFVII or FFX. Anyone's suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

Okay people. I'm going to be writing my report on Final Fantasy XIII soon. It should be up tonight or tomorrow. In the mean time, it's a toss up between beginning my quest with Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy VII. What do you all think I should begin with? Let me know. Vote... FFVII or FFX.

Knee deep in Final Fantasy X for those still wondering.

* UPDATE* December 26, 2009

As of now, I have finished VII and X. I am working on VIII right now. I am so happy they have put both VII and VIII on the PSN network. I've been playing both on my PSP and they both look fantastic on the little handheld.
