Well, this is it. In no less than a couple of weeks time, the year 2006 will end, and 2007 will start. In this blog I am going to express my thoughts on the year, and what it has been like for me.

What have been the main highlights of the year?

Well, obviously the main highlight has been the jump from the current generation, to the next generation. Early on I was struggling to make up my mind on which console I would get, I'd always intended to purchase a PS3, but early on I was rumbled by Sony's shock announcement that the PS3 was going to be delayed in Europe until March 2007. So I was left with no other choice but to forget about a PS3, and choose another console. I eventually decided to get an upgraded computer, my last one was at the end of it's life and just couldn't keep up to my expectations. Have I regretted my decision? Not one bit.

What has disappointed you?

As mentioned above, the thing that let me down the most was the delay of the Playstation 3, but there have been a few others. Earlier in the year, I had been looking forward to the Tokyo game show. I was hoping to see many games, such as Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5, and some others. Devil May cry 4 was interesting, showing a wealth of gameplay and in-game graphics. But the rest, failed to stand out. Resident Evil 5 in particular. We were shown absolutely nothing. They showed us ONE teaser at the e3 gameshow. After that, they have said nothing of much interest. To be honest, nothing at TGS had that "WOW" factor. It was mediocre at best.

Has this year lived up to your expectations?

Honestly? Well.....no. It hasn't. I was expecting much more than this.  I thought this year would be full of hidden shocks and surprises, with more trailers being released for the PS3, XBOX 360 and Wii, as the developer's go their full length to win over people. Instead it has een one of the slowest, most boring years in gaming for a long time. Microsoft released their console early to get in the sales first. So no surprises their. Sony apparantly had a faulty batch, which meant absolutely nothing for Europe. Then there was Nintendo, who decided to play it cool and keep the Wii under wraps, trying to keep the public interested. But to be honest, since so little was revealed I lost interest, if it hadn't been for the delay in the PS3, I would've probably stayed away from the Wii.

Last question, what are you hopes for the incoming year?

In short, what I'd like to see is no more delays from Sony, I want to see them put some effort into a european launch. Secondly, I'd like to see more good games for the Wii, the launch list apart from a couple of games, isn't that overly exciting. Next, would be more thought being put into the PS1 emulator for the PSP, not one person who has a PSP wouldn't like to relive the old PS1 gems. That's about it.

Thank you for reading, hope you enjoyed it. Feel free to post your thought's and feelings on any of the points I've mentioned.

I see what you did there Stephen . Anywho, I for the most part agree, I think on the whole Sony's launch everywhere so far as terrible, hope it's better for you though. I want in the following year, more original games, no more sequel crap, look at all the new games that came out this year that weren't sequels and were also amazing!

I definitely agree with having more original games produced. I played shadow of the colossus recently and it was mind-blowing. But I mean we're waiting on DMC4, MGS4, GT5, GTA4.......the list goes on.

Yeah those are good, but alot of them to me (GT5, GTA4, and DMC4 even alittle) some are getting stale.

1) the same as yours mostly.
2) the continues deleas of the PS3 in europe and some games where my expectations where maybe a little too high.
3) not really, mostly bc i don't own a X360 i think, most companies where too bissy making next-gen games.
4) some new kick-ass platform games for the PS2 and PSP and when i have a new PC i want ET: Quake Wars
