Yay! I never thought I'd ever be so loyal to this site. If adsense ever tracked my # of visits, CBS would have made a fortune (not that they are cash strapped right now, for crying out loud).

So yeah, whatever!

In the wake of some really shocking show cancellations, I am so very tempted to write this blog.

http://tv.yahoo.com/blog/farewell-to-our-favorite-and-notsofavorite-tv-series--351

----------------------

The business model of TV shows is simple. Shows pay actors a lot of money to come and act. Networks pay show producers a lot of money to air a series. Somewhere, a bunch of guys can monitor the # of people tuned into a particular network. This is what people term as ratings. Networks earn money from various sources, one particular source is the money from pesky advertisements. Higher the ratings, the more money advertisers are willing to pay the networks. When ratings plunge, advertisers look for exposure areas or shows are shown the door.

There are a quite a few shockers in recently ended fall season. I don't watch a lot of shows, but I do follow the news on almost all the popular ones. I don't watch My Name is Earl, but it's cancellation doesn't make sense in every way possible. If NBC can find a reason to continue with the Office, I find it hard to believe they had a reason to cancel this show after airing 96 installments.

...and ABC cancels Samantha Who? Seriously, what were they thinking? Sam Who is possibly the best comedy on acomedy deprived ABC. Again, they are considering giving Scrubs a third lease of life, instead of continuing with a decent and different comedy.

Primetime is hard. Its time networks show some restraint and not let the current money situation ruin good TV. Bringing in a new show with a famous cast will bring in short term gains. However, for people who love watching some good stuff on the tube, we need something worthwhile. Not something that gets cancelled after 4 or 5 episodes.

..And still, networks continue to think like Wall Street.......

Around 30 minutes after I wrote my review for the 'Casual Friday' episode of 'The Office', I received the following mail from a disgruntled fan in my TV.com inbox. The exact message is the red fonted text below.

What do you want from The Office? What are you after? If you don't like the show, don't watch it, or keep your mouth shut. There was absolutely nothing wrong with Casual Friday. In today's TV world, everything is all stick to a format, don't go against the norm, and The Office is about the only show that doesn't do that. If you're so mainstream, then don't write anything on the show you tool. Grow a brain and grow up a little, no one wants to hear you sook because you can.

Trust me, I was actually happy that someone's is actually read my review and was so agitated to pen me an email. The mail was insulting in every sense possible, and I had the option of rattling the sweet jesus out of that person by a reply-email, or I had the option of reporting an offensive email to the site staff. I decided to do neither, as I thought it would be fun to post it in my blog.

I can't honestly imagine the state of mind of this person. I get it that everyone's opinion is different, but you ought to respect it. There are times when I've rated an episode a 1/10, while there are some members who've rated it a 10/10. I've wondered what makes people so generous, but at the same time I understand each one's benchmark of quality is also different. I;ve never ever in my right senses thought of drafting such an email to anyone.

I just want to say one thing to this person. I look at this website as forum for people who love TV. It is almost a semi-professional ensemble of members who are really good at analyzing shows of various genres. And just because things are anonymous, it doesnt give you the freedom to tell a member his opinion sucks big time.

Some people just don't have opinions. Like sequoa84.
sequoa84 must really love MovieTome and agree with every review we've ever written! What other reason could sequoa84 possibly have for not rating a single film?
