ok, since it is widely believed that the wii will be released oct/ nov time, putting all next gen consoles out there I thought I should start convincing you guys why the wii is the best choice.

Now:

Price

The price will likely be £199 or like $250 dollars.  Why pay more than twice that to get a playstation.  If anything, buy an xbox360 and a wii. also, game price will also be driven up if we let ps3 control the market.

Games

Games from nintendo have been seen to appeal to younger gamers and that was true, but it is all changing. the new direct controller will make it easier for everyone to play and the parental control system will make it safe so that kids cannot play older peoples' games.

Innovation

I think that the link explains everything.  If you don't wanna click the link, here's the jist of it.  Sony stole nintendo's ideas... again.  Why reward that?

Graphics

Ok, ok, the graphics do not rock but the innovative gameplay makes up for that.

Backing

Even Sony says buy nintendo wii. admittedly they say buy sony first lol.  Microsoft say buy the wii.  Can you guess what the common denominator is?

Now, I didn't wanna bog you guys down with jargon but I just wanted to express the way I feel.  It's the same way I feel about tv, people and everything in my life.  I like things that do not conform, that try to be different rather than being flashy... and clouding your with pretty.

I hope you consider what I am saying.

you must also consider that not everyone would like a new inovative experience and want to keep it old-school with games dont' dont' require you to wave your arms around. I mean the eye-toy was an inovation as well, but because of all the motions you had to do and the lights that neede to be adjusted, it wasn't a thing that many non-die hard fans, liked.

Alos, nintendo has this reputation of making many kid-friendly games. Sure RE came to the gamecube, but if you look at the wii game, red-steel... there is no blood in it! And it's called RED steel.... I hope it has blood in it.

I can't say if it's good or not, but it's definitly interesting. I say if you wnat innovation at a cheap price NOW, get a Nintendo DS. If you want innovation with above xbox like graphics, get Wii, but if you want 18+ games like GTA, Halo, MGS, DMC etc. get a ps3 or/and xbox 360 instead.

Ofcourse you can get them all, ot as many people say as a secondary console. At first I was going to get a ps3, but at that ridiculous high price, I think I'll wait a year or two untill a price drop is announced here in Europe.

Also, I don't need next-gen yet, and there are many people that think like this. I think it's still too soon, but maybe end 2007, when the new GTA's are coming, I might consider one. First got to see which version will be better though, the PS3 version o the XBOX 360 version... Xbox 360 is cheaper, but PS3 has more power... This will be a long term investment indeed... >_>

Also, better graphics and physics also inovate alot. I don't know if you saw the ps3 trailer assasin creed, but that game looks awasome and because of the physics in the game, you can do stuff that we couldn't even do in the previous generations. My guess is that Ninendo wil be third place again, because as fun the wii-mote is, in the end it will be gimmicky IMO for third party developers and only ninendot will be using it to the fullest.

Just take a look at some of the ds games, only nintendo makes good use of the touchscreen , and many games just use it as a gimmick.

In short, I agree that the Wii is a good looking console, but if you're a gamer I recommen getting this as your secondary console and use a ps3 and/or xbox 360 as your primary console for the next gen.

For now... I think I'll focus on getting the Nintendo DS Lite or the PSP... Both have great games.... Still a hard decision....

curse your well researched arguement!!! lol i kind of agree with you about the eyetoy but everyone knew that the eyetoy was flawed. the games like many on the ds were gimmicky and under developed. i think that sony always relies on its games, and i get it. it has great games but everyone knows that sony does not rely on sony, but it waits for others to develop components, ideas and games for them. nintendo at least works on it itself. but i agree with you. i am a hardcore gamer and will get an xbox360 as well as a wii... but with the xbox i can wait but games like zelda and super mario galaxy as well as red steel will get me there, with my fellow nintendo fans on the launch day.

I'll probably get a Wii as well (sounds so wrong....), because Zelda looks great on that thing, and I can''t wait to see new innovative games and FPS's on that thing. But in the end, everyone is a graphics freak, because let's face it, with the xbox 360 and PS3 out there, we will be getting spoiled with nice looking graphics. Some people already are spoiled with nice grpahics, stating that some of the trailers on the PS3 conference were not that good looking.... If that's not spoiled then I don't know what is...

Xbox 360 is out for a year now, the graphics look great and it has a reasonable price. Now imagine a few years later: devolpers have gotten familiar with the technology and games play less clunky and look amazing and a price drop at that point will be inevitable and let's not forget to factor inflation as well with the pricepoint. Eventually people will say things like, "You know what, for that price and those games, I'll get that piece of hardware"
The same can be said about the PS3.

And in the end, it all comes to games, but like many devlopers and analyst have said: "Other than first-party titles, there won't be many exclusives in this gen". We se it right now, with the non-exclusivity deal with sony in GTA, which will be released on the Xbox 360 AND PS3 on the same day. This time around the exclusives will be about the online content IMO.

Now I've said that about microsoft and sony, but then there is nintendo... They can't win people with graphics like Sony and Microsoft do and they intendly did choose not to. Instead they try it with new gameplay. IMO Wii will be the one with most exclusive deals, because of the unique controller.

Also about the eye-toy and the wii-mote. IMO one of the reasons that the eye-toy failed is because of poor game support. I mean the only games I have seen are Eye Toy play 1-3 and Sega collection. I sure do hope that in the PS3 they will give proper support to that thing.
And one of the reasons I think that the wii-mote will NOT fail, is because I'm sure that Nintendo will push developers that want to develop for that system to don't rely on that add-ons that system has to offer (like the normal controllers for the virtual console)

Also in the end WE the consumers have the power, since WE have the decison to buy a game or not.
I see nothing wrong with Sony "copying" motion sensing from nintendo, eventhough it was out there for the PC a few years ago. I see nothing wrong with copying controller idea's. I see nothing wrong with copying functions like online services like Live. I see nothing wrong with Microsoft and Nintendo copying ideas to make their next consoles backward compatible as well. I see nothing wrong with Microsoft and Sony copying the touchscreen for future handhelds.
I see nothing wrong with all of this and many more things, because of a few reasons:
- They are a bussiness and they do it for US the consumers. So in the end we get the benefits.
- It always is about the games, not the hardware. Sure there are hardware junkies out there, that just need their new gen system to play HD-DVD/Blu-RAY, but that's their decision
- We have the decision to buy it or not. If we don't buy it, expect a lower price.

About the price: I think that sony made such a high price, as part of their strategy and I think it's excellent from a bussiness perspective. I mean you remember the xbox 360 world wide launch. Shortages are inevitable, especially if there are only 2 million untis at launch day, world wide and expect shortages for at least a few more batches. They already are taking a loss on each unit being sold, why not make that loss as low as possible? One of the reasons that it is that high is because of the Blu-ray device. A year later the price to devlop that thing will be lower and then they can announce a price drop. Also, they probably will wait untll they are sure that there won't be any shortages when they announce a price drop, because they know that it will raise the demand immediatly, especially from the gamers the hardcore gamers that aren't that rich to spend that much on a gaming console.

Argh, sorry for the long post, but I thought that I'd let my thoughts wander trough your blog.
