So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains, and we never even know we have the key...
***********************************************************************************
I do not know how many of you have been paying attention to what is going on in Iran. If you have not, Iran had an election for a new president last Friday, the 12th. According to the numbers, close to 80% of the population that could vote, came out and did so.
The race was between current president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the top runner, Mir Hossein Mousavi. Most everywhere, people said they voted for Mousavi, yet Ahmadinejad was declared the winner not too long after 7pm. Now, you must remember, all of these people voted by HAND. People have been protesting since then of voting fraud. Sometimes as many as 100,000 people have taken to the streets demanding that officials throw out the result's of Friday's balloting.
Now, why does this matter? For many reasons....I know most of you are too young to remember what happened in East Germany during the 50's - 80's, but I am sure you have studied about the wall coming down. Many people died trying to escape during those years, it was horrible. It finally took the people themselves to say: "I have had enough!" When they did, that wall came down and not too long after, a united Germany was formed. Many have been wondering why our President has not come out and said more than what he has over the Iran situation...but I understand why.
The Iranian people HAVE to stand up NOW and fight for change. Will that mean that people might die? Yes, it will...but when you are going against a dictator and a so-called "Supreme Leader" who is trying to call things by a religion, you have to take such chances. Will Mousavi be any better? We don't really know...but what we do know is that the people of Iran are willing to risk their lives; even the women, and that says a lot to me. Mousavi's wife has been there in the open and showing other women that times can change.
Is change possible for Iran? Well, change is always possible. Is change probable for Iran? That will be answered by the people themselves. Let us hope that their time is now and that they can stand strong.
(One more thing, if you have a Twitter account, you can help the people of Iran to get out information by setting your time zone to GMT +3.30. As of yet, Twitter has been one of the few ISP accounts that the Iranian government has not been able to block.)
And since Father's Day is this coming Sunday, I thought this would be a great sign to end it with...
JERUSALEM (AP) - An Israeli woman mistakenly threw out a mattress she said had almost $1 million inside, setting off a frantic search through tons of garbage at a number of landfill sites on Wednesday.
The woman told The Associated Press that she bought her elderly mother a new mattress as a surprise present on Monday - and threw out the old one.
The next day, she said, she remembered that she had hidden her life savings inside the old mattress. "I woke up in the morning screaming, when it hit me what happened," said the Tel Aviv woman, who asked not to be identified.
She went to look for the mattress, but it had already been hauled away by garbage collectors, she said. Searches at three different landfill sites turned up nothing.
She said the money was in U.S. dollars and Israeli shekels. She refused to say how she acquired such a large sum. "It was all my money in the world," she said. There was no way to verify her claims, and she refused to disclose key details.
Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said he was not familiar with the case and no report had been filed.
The Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot published a picture of the woman searching through garbage at a dump in southern Israel. The picture shows the woman, dressed in a white top and black pants with her back to the camera, picking through a huge pile of trash that fills the frame about 10 feet in all directions.
Yitzhak Borba, the dump manager, told Army Radio that his staff was helping the woman, saying she appeared "totally desperate." He said the mattress was hard to find among the 2,500 tons of garbage that arrives at the site every day.
He said the increased security at the site to keep would-be treasure hunters away.
The woman said the money had been stashed in a mattress because she had had "traumatic experiences with banks" in the past. She would not elaborate.

My feelings: This old woman was truly nuts. Most of all, I have known some old people like this. Even my sister-in-law keeps alot of her money in the trunk of her car! She does not trust the bank! Truth is stranger than fiction.
