To begin with:

Technically we have cable TV... in that we get our television broadcasts through a cable. The cable SUBSCRIPTION we have, though, is basic as basic can be-- the stuff you'd get with an antenna for free, if you HAD an antenna. We have cable internet, though, and a TV that really doesn't lend itself to antenna use, so we have basic basic cable. Actually, there is a cable package CALLED "Basic Cable" that has more channels than we have. But it is such a jump in price for a bunch of channels we'd never watch, that we'd basically be paying thirty extra dollars to get the History Channel! So basic basic it is.

Occasionally my husband will turn on the TV, flip through, and announce, "Guess what! There's nothing on TV." It's kind of a running gag.

This weekend we were at the in-laws', went into the TV room to feed the baby, and turned on their new Digital Cable package. Half the channels weren't working. On the other half, well, nothing was on. We finally settled on the History Channel, which was playing "Band of Brothers."

So here we were, an opportunity to watch hundreds of channels, and we end up watching something we could watch anytime we want at home without commercials!

You may ask yourself, WHY then do I have an account on a site devoted to television? You might also ask yourself, if you were to see me there, why do I always end up reading my parents' TV Guide cover to cover whenever I find myself in their living room?

I really have no explanation. I enjoy reading about television. I enjoy discussing television. Why I don't actually partake in enjoying WATCHING television more often... beats me.
