As I was checking in this morning on the Gamespot site I see all of this buzz about Jeff ... I know alot of people have given their opinions on this subject and well, your just gonna have to listen to mine too.
My first thought on this is that we are missing part of the picture ... I would think that there has to be something more to this than just the "tone" of Jeff's review of Kane & Lynch. Unfortunately, having worked in the corporate world I'm inclined to believe that this is exactly what occurred ... as always the bottom line is money ... integrity? who cares! ... right CNET/Eidos?.
Damn shame too ... I trusted Jeff's reviews of games ... and with Kane and Lynch he was about right .. I may have given it something higher than a 6 but certainly no higher than a 7 and I have played the game ... alot of gamers that played it and posted to message boards or blogs said much of what Jeff said ... broken cover system ... alot of foul language, etc...
I don't see what was wrong with any of that ... a game is what it is and there is no firing of reviewers or buying tons of advertising space that is going to change the face of the game ... if you make a mediocre game it going to be just that and nothing more regardless of how much you scream and yell and stomp you feet or flex your corporate advertising dollars ... think it's going to sell better if Jeff reviews it higher? It might, but the fact that Jeff gave it a 6 did not keep me from buying it.
I'll tell you what I have come away with from this tawdry little piece of soiled laundry ... this site cannot be trusted to offer up to gamers fair and unbiased reviews based on gameplay, story, functionality, etc ... the things that matter to those of us supporting the gaming industry.
Jeff ... sorry man ... you are good at what you do and I respect your integrity .. you are one of the few voices I pay attention to when it comes to reviews.
To the corporate execs at CNET and the people that cryed foul at Eidos you represent everything that is wrong with the corporate world and quite frankly ... you all just .... suck.
I picked up Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare last night and I have to say that I'm glad I did ... with all of the games coming out this month there is alot of choice available to gamers and some of us with shallower pockets may have to make the always painful choice of one game over another.
This game rocks ... plain and simple ... finished the first few chapters and the action has been very intense .. you always feel as if you are under the gun and one step behind.
The game is beautifully rendered ... during loading you are kept interested by unique visuals ... and the game-play mechanics are just awesome.
I'll check back in once the game is finished but it kept me up far later than I should have been last night ... but as a note to those of you that may be "on the fence" with this one ... buy it ... trust me that you won't regret the 60 bucks.
Hello all,
Have not had a blog entry for a bit ... seems my real life has made a bid to dominate my virtual one (well that and H3 online ... Restless Dragon is my GT, look me up and we'll try to kill each other up in all sorts of interesting ways!) but I thought I would just make a brief rant here about the number of games that have come out or are coming out this month ... what is it with November? I don't understand this particular timeline for the dev. houses ... a little early for Christmas don't you think? Had you delayed a few just a bit (although I'm glad Army of Two got delayed cuz I want that too!) I could have farmed them out to relatives for Christmas gifts! If you are into FPS's at all there are more games coming out than you will be able to contend with ... this week it's ...
COD4
Then the following week:
Assassins Creed
Kane & Lynch
Blacksite: Area 51
Soldier of Fortune: Payback
Then the week of Nov. 18:
Mass Effect
That's 6 games (just for the 360) for the month of November that any respectable FPS (or sci-fi) fan just has to lay hands on for a grand total of ....cha-ching! $360.00 (odd how that's the main console I play and that number comes up ... I'm sure that the conspiracy theorists will be all over that) ... My pockets are screaming "no mas" like Ruberto Duran during the Sugar Ray Leonard fight (some of you may be a bit young for that reference)... yep, my pockets are going moth ridden, but I'll tell you what...for the amount of quality (I hope) gaming that I'm going to get in over the holiday season I think it will be well worth it.
Like I said ... sometimes it's OK being broke.
Hope you enjoy your November (and turkey) as much as I'll enjoy mine (since I won't be able to drive anywhere ... no money for gas!)
