Well, it's about that time for another blog again.
Bayonetta. Oh, glorious awesome incredible Bayonetta. Where do I begin? Easily one of the most creative, entertaining, pulse pounding games I've ever played. I'd have to say it is definitely THE best hack and slash I've played. I simply can't get enough of what this game has to offer. The characters are eccentric, but utterly lovable in every way. The story is cheesy, and yet has a hidden level of depth and maturity that slowly unravels in the latter segments of the game. The action is tight, fast paced, and incredibly varied by the shear amount of weapon combinations and move sets you can acquire. The boss fights are hands down the most epic I've ever experienced. Tons upon tons of unlockables can keep you playing for upwards of 50 hours... Just all around, Bayonetta is one of my favorite games of all time. Hideki Kamiya is yet to disappoint.
If your a Bayonetta basher, feel free to not comment on this portion of the blog. ![]()
Last night I made it in to see The Book of Eli. I had seen the advertisements on television, and was mostly expecting a violent end of the world blood bath, because...well that's what's portrayed. Instead, I got a deeply moving, visceral and hauntingly beautiful portrayal of the apocalypse. Some of the cinematography in this movie is absolutely amazing. There are scenes that have stuck in my mind that I won't soon be forgetting.
The acting was another fantastic strength. Denzel Washington surpassed head and shoulders what I had come to expect out of him, and Gary Oldman was his usual awesome self. He can make you despise him like no other.
The story falls flat in a couple segments, and Mila Kunis was a terribly ODD casting choice (though she didn't really hurt the movie at all), but overall I was impressed. I'd give it an 8.5/10. Definitely one to see on the big screen in my opinion.
Anybody else seen it? Your thoughts?
And last but not least, some recent purchases. I picked up the novel "Battle Royale", and so far it's quite an enjoyable read. I'll have to get a bit further to come up with a definitive opinion. Also picked up the mangas Jurmungand and Detroit Metal City, which I'm yet to even take out of the wrapper. Movie wise I got the DVD of Falling Down, a favorite of mine from the early 90's
. And finally I picked up The Aeroplane Flies High by the Smashing Pumpkins and The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails. Both are incredible.
Well, that about does it. Hope everyones doing well, and the Americans enjoy their 3 day weekend. ![]()
Well, I feel like it's been to long since I've blogged, despite the fact that my blogs are rarely fun or interesting to read. ![]()
Gaming lately....has been somewhat on the slow side since the masterpiece that is Demon's Souls. I've been mostly playing around with some older RPG's on the Playstation 2 that I've still got to complete, those being Persona 4 and Final Fantasy XII, and I most recently completed Modern Warfare 2.
Persona 4 still stands as one of the most arresting RPG's on the PS2 in my opinion. Creates such an intriguing world full of life, despite what a small scale it is. The story is awesome, as are the characters, art style, music, and battle mechanics. ![]()
Final Fantasy XII. Well, many die-hard FF fans were let down by this game despite the fact that it remains the only Final Fantasy game to score a perfect 40/40 from Famitsu. I personally think it's an incredibly captivating experience, whether it lacks the traditional feeling of the Final Fantasy universe or not. I adore the characters (specifically Fran and Balthier), and it just gives me an Ocarina of Time sort of vibe when I travel to new cities and venture into the dungeons/fields.
And last but not least....Modern Warfare 2...
The story was, at times, very interesting and at others one of the most non-sensical hole filled plots I've had the displeasure of sitting through.
The gameplay is still solid (possibly the best in its genre even) but the game itself is so short it really carries no impact. It's like getting flashed in the eyes by a camera. Really brilliant for a few seconds, and then gone. Spec ops mode was pretty boring to me, and I lack the ability to play online, so naturally this is not a game I would even consider adding to my collection.
Share your opinions on the games mentioned if you want. ![]()
As far as other things go, I have 3 150+ question finals approaching, all on the same day (Medical Terminology, Anatomy, and Physiology) so naturally I'm a bit stressed out about that.
That day will be hell for me.
Any finals coming up for you guys? What subjects? Are you concerned or confident?
Just a little curious, that's all. ![]()
Hope everyone is doing well, and enjoying the holiday season so far. ![]()
In a figurative sense.
Demon's Souls is and will be for the foreseeable future, the only game on my mind. Uncharted 2 who? It's been a long time since a game has put me in as many pulse pounding situations, kicked me so many times while I was down, and left me coming back for more every single time. Dying in this game just leads to a stronger desire to continue. What a great feeling.Easily my 3rd favorite game of this generation ( Valkyria Chronicles and MGS4 are on such a high throne...). If you own a PS3, or are a fan of RPG's you owe it to yourself to play this game. It's pretty much mandatory.
I also recently completed Brutal Legend, which was a surprisingly entertaining and well crafted game itself. The world is beautifully imagined, and the story is chock full of plot twists, metal legend cameos, and shocking amounts of emotion. Gameplay is simple, yet addictive because of the available upgrades and myriad of various solos such as "the facemelter" (guess what that does). It's hindered a bit by how short it is, and the side quest's do become very repetitive, but overall it's definitely worth checking out.
Aside from gaming, nothing much going on. Some health issues on my mind, planning a massive Halloween party (my favorite time of year) and watching some anime. Just finished Witch Hunter Robin, and currently into Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Both are amazing series.
Hope everyones doing well. ![]()
