So, I've done a lot of working this last week, not much gaming. It happens sometimes.

Never the less, I have had the chance to play a little Fossil Fighters this week. My kid loves it, so I figured I would play some myself so I know what he is playing and see what it's all about.

You dig up fossils, clean them, then use them in battles. The strategy is get good at cleaning, kick every other persons trash because you will have super dinos compared to them. Or that is how I have seen it so far.

I'm level 5 (I think there are 8 levels, but I haven't looked at one strat guide so I can't be sure) and I'm yet to lose a battle. They give you, so far, 5 different places you can go, one is unlocked every level you gain, and the story drags you back to different areas on a regular basis... the problem is the fossil finds and random encounters (well, random when you dig up a fossil) never change... so I'm back to the first area you go to and every so often I end up fighting some loser with one dino and 30 hit points... (mine have 600 right now)... yeah.

They throw a twist in by making it so you can't tell what is in the fossils via x-ray... but still, it is easy to 100 (or for rare fossils, 125) them.

The interesting, "WTF are they teaching my kid?" part of the game comes with the random encounters. You dig, and pull up a rock, a Fossil Fighter pops out and says: "I was here first! Any true FF would fight for it" - Battle: Yes, No? So, did I get that right, the GoW edition would be: "I was here first!" - "STFU, let me kick your dinos asses!" - "OK!" Ah, games teach kids the important skills...

We also played Wii fit a bit with the kids... the game is already out ran its welcome with me... but I watch my kids because they have a lot of fun with it.

I haven't touched anything else this week... I haven't even turned on the X360... despite me wanting to get some games done. Just had a lot of work to do and things to get in order before our first 3-6" of snow tomorrow - yuck, I hate winter. Next week I hope to have made some sort of progress on Dead Space or Forza 2...

Later!

Yeah, Fossil Fighters seems like a Pokemon knock-off. I recently started a new job - today, in fact. More likable than my last job (army life sukt!). On gaming, Chrono Trigger STAYS in my DS. I've got my eye on "Devil Summoner 2" (PS2). Persona 3 FES & 4 (PS2) rock pretty hard. On Winter, it's not too bad here in Atlanta. We might get 3" of snow. That's about it.

Haven't played it but it sounds a lot like Spectrobes (or something - I haven't played it either). Same basic idea where you collect fossils and battle them.

lol, do you play games simply to complete them? i stopped doing that in the PS2/GC years.. although i guess it does feel good to finally 'finish' a game.

@just_nonplussed - yeah, but I have to be in the right mood though, so I'll shelf stuff for some time until I get in the mood to play them again. I try to keep a diverse library that way when I'm in the mood for something I already have something that fits the bill on hand... then I replay them until I finish them.

@nate1222 - it is. Funny thing is I can take this game a lot more than I could take the first Pokemon I tried... despite them being at almost the same level.

Dude, I love snow!

Especially when it cancels school and work for me

Looks like Fossil Fighters can be easily enjoyed because it's not as... pretentious as the Pokemon franchise. It's getting harder for a newbie to jump into Pokemon with its 500 monsters and types and moves and items and all.

It sound sort of like a blend of Pokemon and Final Fantasy. Still, it sounds like a good kids game. Wii Fit made me laugh the first time I heard about it, but looks like it does have some potential. And yes, the important skills are about denying the possession of someone else's goods by saying "I was here first". True enough, the important skills.
