Transformers is one of the most disappointing movies ever made, and I don't care what anyone says (READ ON!).

Let's look at the positive side first. As you all know, Transformers is based on the hit cartoon shows and toylines dated way back in the late 80's. It was successful. It was amazing. And it was phenomenal. I remember spending a whole lot of time watching the TV shows and collecting the action figures during my youth. And then came Transformers- The Movie, which appeared in 1986 and although the plot was kinda weird, but it was great.

Now we have Transformers, directed by Michael Bay with Steven Spielberg as Executive Producer. Again on the good side, Transformers definitely has the best looking graphics and special effects because both the robots and its destruction all look real and life like. But that all that could be said about this movie.

To be honest, I was actually very sceptical about this movie when the trailer first came out and seeing Speilberg's name. After what he did with the A.I. movie and War of The Worlds, I was sure that this movie isn't gonna turn out well since those movies were a waste of money and piece of crap. The story starts off with Sam Witwicky, a typical loser who has no luck with the ladies and school, first encountered the Transformers. He bought a yellow car and after further investigation, he discovers that the car is alive and calls himself as Bumblebee. Sam then meets Bumblebee's other comrades, who call themselves as the Autobots. Their mission in Earth is find this huge mystical cube known as the Allspark, and to find it before the evil Decepticon does.

Like the original cartoon shows, Transformers delivers some non-stop action throughout the movie but unlike the TV shows, the plot is really loop-sided. Transformers consists of many memorable characters such as Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Jazz, Ironhide, Soundwave, etc. and the cartoon shows were specifically told by both the Autobots and Decepticons perspective. But since for whatever reason, despite having all these cool and powerful machinery characters all crammed in one TV show, the developers of this movie thought it'd be cool to turn it around by making you care for the human characters more than the machines. And I thought that sucks.

Almost 3/4 of the movie focuses only on the humans, and not the Transformers. So you have the military having a great time in the desert, the government worrying about the invasion, hackers playing with the computers, etc. All these stuff really pulls you off out of the experience. You don't wanna be worrying about Sam and his love life, the government, the citizens and other retarded characters because none of these stuff is relevant. It's the Transformers that is important, not the humans.

So yeah, I was incredily disappointed with how this movie turn out to be because I was expecting to see more of the Autobots duking it out with the evil Decepticons. But you don't really see or feel any of this since the movie focuses too much on the human's perpective. The jokes are lame and stupid as well, and some are unintentionally funny and they just had to put it in. For example, the part when the Autobots were hiding from Sam's parents outside his house, the stupid and idiotic jackass agent (Played by John Turturro), the parts about the hacker and the blondie, the military scenes, the love scene and many more. All were pointless!

I still can't figure out why people like this movie. At first I thought they're being so gullible, but after discovering that my brother, who is a bigger Transformers fan than I am, like the movie, I figured out maybe I'm being harsh. But I can't help it. This movie is a total disappointment. It should be called "Sam and The Transformers", since they portay Sam as the main character and hero, not Optimus Prime. It's sad to see that Prime is merely just a side character.

Even if they were to put human characters, at least treat it exactly like the cartoons. In the shows, you have Spike, Spike's dad, the guy in the wheel chair and few others. Yes, the cartoon did have some humans in them but the focus was only like 10% overall.

I have a tough time giving my overall score for Transformers as I have been struggling with it ever since it came out. I hate this movie a lot but at the same, I'm trying to be as lenient as possible. I first gave it a 5.8/10 rating, then 7.8/10 but now I've finally have my final score. Let's look at my rating first.

Plot: 8
The storyline is good actually and it even though you start hating the movie 10 minutes afterwards, you really wanna know how it ends. Thanks a lot Megan Fox.

Sound: 6
Cool sound effects and overall voice acting. Peter Cullen reprise his role as Prime. Yay! But on the negative side, Megatron isn't with his original voice actor (Frank Welker) and poor soundtrack. Linkin Park's What I've Done? Come on, that is so emo! This is Transformers. They're machines. They're made out of metal. So we need heavy metal. The Transformers cartoon movie's soundtrack was awesome!

Performance: 6
The acting quality. Their acting was so half-baked and really over-the-top. Anthony Anderson's role was so irrelevant and so was the love life between Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox. Terrible! But again, I'm trying to be lenient.

Value: 8
Replay value. Despite it's awful production, it does kinda make you wanna watch this movie again in the near future, even though I won't.

My overall score. I actually wanna give it a 1 but that's just cruel isn't it? I'm a gentleman so I give it a five. Mediocre level.
