The movie's point of view is the down-to-earth but disillusioned Cyril and his sweet and hopeful girlfriend Shirley. I just watch the 1960 Best Movie The Apartment with Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine at my local theater. Really, nothing compares to seeing a movie in a theater. It's the little details you can see that gave this masterpiece texture and richness. The TV show Mad Men draws a lot from this movie for the 1960s corperate culture of men vs. women.

I loved the look of this movie. I could almost smell 18th century Paris and Grasse.

Fun and entertaining. I had heard mixed reviews about Cloverfield but the idea intrigued me. The handheld personal video style worked for me. It produced a lot of tension and excitement. The movie really used the handheld video camera to it's best. There is a time when the auto focus is used to great effect. I also like the brief moments when the video that is being over written comes through.

I was surprise that so many songs from this musical are well know classics like "That's why the Lady is a Tramp" and "Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered" Pal Joey is entertaining and delightful. Next, the happy surprise, Kevin Smith as super geek Warlock. Finally, Live Free or Die Hard's over-the-top action, John McClane's indestructibleness was LOL, tongue-in-cheek funny.

A movie so bad it's good. It has the quirky feel of the Tom Robbins novel it was based on. If you want to see a young Lorraine Bracco (Dr. Melfi of The Sopranos) Uma Thurman with big rubber thumbs and lots of dirty cowgirls; then this movie is for you. Oh yah, Tom Robbins is the narrator.

I saw Juno this week. It is the most entertaining movie I have seen in a long time. First, I loved the opening credits. It set the tone for what is to come. I think I might put together a list of my favorite movie opening credits.

The two main elements that made this movie brilliant was Diablo Cody's writing and the wonderful casting. The actors and the characters they played made me happy. Yes, yes, Juno was too wise for her years. For a woman, who was once a sixteen year-old girl, it is like a do-over. Watching Juno navigate the adult world on her own terms is kind of cathartic.

I enjoy Michael Moore's movie making style. I know it rubs some people the wrong way. Practice make perfect, Sicko is his best effort so far. In Sicko, Michael lets people in America, Canada, Great Britian, France and Cuba tell their experiences with healthcare. There are no corperate ambushs in Sicko. Over and over the healthcare system in the United States is shown to be a cruel joke. The joke is on regular working Americas that think they are insured. By the end of the movie you get the point, it is immoral to deny healthcare to the sick and dying because it will affect the profits of the insurance industry.

Jerome Platz (Max Minghella) is a talented, shy artist. When he enters art school he hopes to find, at long last, his place in the world of art and artists. What he finds is a school full of pretentious artist want-to-bes (both students and teachers.) There are the kiss ups, and the snobs and the jerks and the old time losers.

Jerome's work is over looked over and over again in favor of artistic sillieness. Even the beautiful artist model that Jerome is smitten with is charmed by another student of questionable ability.

What makes that movie good is it is enteraining. It hits the right notes of comedy, drama and suspence. The cast is great. John Malkovich, as a pretentious teacher is wonderful as usual.

The first time I noticed Craig Sheffer was in Robert Redford's movie, A River Runs Through It. He played the older brother to Brad Pitt's trouble making character. In ever way Craig Sheffer was the star of the movie, and yet the new comer Pitt got all the buzz. I'm sorry, I have never been very impressed with Pitt.

After seeing A River Runs Through It I starting looking for other Sheffer movies. I even went so far as to rent the low budget Nightbreed. (Silly)

I wish he would have gotten the credit he is due. Hollywood likes it's pretty boys.

Somerset Maugham's stories are always beautiful gems. I have read a lot of his short stories and I am always transported to a different place and time.
I think that Naomi Watts and Ed Norton did a wonderful job. Toby Jones as Waddington helped make it work. I think Somerset Maugham is kind of the Waddington character. He often writes himself into his stories.

Keanu, surfing, Keanu, undercover, Keanu, bank robbing, Keanu, skydiving, Keanu...it works for me. This is a movie I can watch over and over. It's funny how Keanu seems to be those kind of movies. ;)

I can't really say what made it bad; the directing, the editing or she was just it off her game; but it did make me uncomfortable to watch. I think I even heard a line from a Diane Keaton/Woody Allen movie. That was weird. It's not worth the time to go back and look it up.

The story and the cast of characters had all the elements of a charming story, but it fell flat.

The one bright spot was Gabriel Macht's Johnny. His character and story line were perfect. There was never a doubt that Mandy Moore's Milly would end up with him.

Good advice really. In 1998, when this movie was made, internet chatrooms were just making the big time. This may have been lost on trusting teens and their computer ignorant parents.
I love Dee's CaptHowdy (kind of a dopey user name for a supposedly cool teenage boy) with all his talk of pain and ritual. His methods where very imaginative.
It was funny when Dee's character went from monster, to a meek victim (thanks to the help of drugs and doctors) and then back. When the towns folk took justice in their own hands to deal with the now meek Dee they are shown to be hypocrites and evil. This is more big time moralizing.
For all his pointy teeth, his tatoos and piecings,I think underneth it all Dee Snider is a suburban middle-aged dad.

Siobhan Fallon (pronounced "sha.vaun") is an actress I see everywhere in supporting roles. I'll be watching a sitcom or a dark drama and there she will be.

What finally got me to look up her name and read a little bit about her were the two most recent rolls I've seen her in. The first was in the sitcom 30 Rock (credit: Siobhan Fallon Hogan) as one of Jack Donaghy's emotional, and very funny, Irish catholic sisters. The next time I saw her, she was a prison guard, in the movie Dancer in the Dark, who befriends a young mother on death row.

She is a big personality on the screen; in part due to her New York accent. At the same time she never over shadows the scenes she is in or the other actors. I guess that is called talent.

This documentary is about the artist's process of creating art. Andy Goldsworthty is an artist that uses and shapes nature to create his art. A great deal of his art is made to be acted on by nature. Some pieces are constructed near rivers or...

This documentary is about the artist's process of creating art. Andy Goldsworthty is an artist that uses and shapes nature to create his art. A great deal of his art is made to be acted on by nature. Some pieces are constructed near rivers or oceans where they are pulled down by the force of waves, wind, tide or currents.

We watch as he's stone or twig sculpture collapses after hours of work. If you have seen Andy Goldsworthty's coffeetable books on his art you have had to wonder, "how did he do that?" This movie is an execellent window in to his work and his creative process.
