First of all thanks to everyone for your support in my previous post. I appreciate it.

What I want to do today is weigh in on the 2008 Presidential race.

Now I know most of you all aren't old enough to vote this election cycle, but many of you are. I'd like to hear your opinions regardless of age, though.

On to my opinion. Early in 2007 when candidates were just getting their campaigns going, my buddy told me about this one guy (and that already disqualifies Hillary ) and I decided to look into him, as well as some of the other candidates.

I'm pretty conservative in my views so naturally I registered as a Republican. And the Republican field was abundant with candidates. So I began the narrowing down.

Well the guy I support now is the same guy I got to know early last year. Through watching his speeches, researching his views, etc. I was very impressed with his leadership ability and optimistic outlook for Anerica.

The candidate I want for President is Mitt Romney. He spent 25 years of his life in the private sector as a very successful businessman, where he accumulated a lot of personal wealth. In 2002, he was chosen to run the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, which were plagued by scandals and financial problems. Mitt Romney turned those games around, which occurred only months after 9/11, and uplifted the spirits of Americans after its most devastating attack in its history.

Then there's Massachusetts. From 2003-2007 Romney served as governor of Massachusetts. Results are seemingly mixed, but he made some very notable accomplishments. In MA, he was able to work with a Democratic legislature to get everyone in the state health care, without the kind of socialized medicine Hillary Clinton. He also inherited a $3 billion deficit and turned it into a surplus within his term without raising taxes. Think about that: Romney solved two of the major issues in this national election as a governor of MA. As President he would offer states incentives to try out and come up with their own health care systems and not insititute "Hillarycare." He would also be able to cut out the waste and duplication in the federal government and balance the budget during his administration.

Another advantage: as a businessman, he has been in the economy, seeing how jobs are created and lost. He would offer unique insight into the economy and could prevent us from moving into a recession. He has proposed a broad economic stimulus plan (worth over $200 billion) that would, among other things, lower the income tax rate for those making roughly $95,000 a year and less to 7.5% from 10%, retroactive to 2007. He'd also eliminate payroll taxes on workers over age 65. And he'd eliminate taxes for those making $200,000 or less on capital gains, interest, etc. View his full stimulus plan at mittromney.com.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw this out there. Let the debating begin!

My mom and I like Huckabee. She likes his politics and I like funny words. jk. I like his politics too.

In my views, I'm not much into politics as the next person but the debates are getting pretty hot this year. Romney have some pretty convincing views as you've mentioned above. I'm not too familiar with Mike Huckabee. Now the other two candidates are Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

If Hillary becomes president, this will be the first ever female president. If Obama becomes president, the first African American president. I can probably explain more as Election Day gets closer.

I always have been very suspicious of all politicians. I place them at the same level with lawyers, lobbyists, and advertisers. They will lie, scheme, and claw in order to get what they want. I generally do not trust any of them. I haven't made my decision on who I support really. There are people a lot of people I like and don't like.

My favorite candidates are:
John Edwards-D
Barack Obama-D
Dennis Kucinich-D
Ron Paul-R(The only good republican candidate in my opinion)

I"m going for democratic this time and i'm going for hillary clinton for president!

I haven't found a suitable candidate that I like. I'm not pro-Romney since he didn't really do anything remarkable here in Mass. I almost thought about supporting Guiliani before he suddenly changed his position on stuff.

*Nods**Nods* Yep, I don't know anything about politics. Can't vote, and when NPR does it's daily 6:45 special on it I'm half asleep. But I know I'm a democrat...Thats about it...

Yeah, I can't vote yet, but if I could, I would probably vote for John Edwards. He seems like a nice guy and he went to college to the college I want to go to, was a senator in my state, and it seems like he isn't as liberal as some other democrats. So that's a plus for me. I'd love to see John Edwards for president.

Well i am republican too but I absolutly hate romney he is like a pesssimistic Prententious version of JFK.but I personaly am going to vote for McCain for the Republican primarys.

I could go on about politics for hours (but I won't because I have a life). I'll start with saying that I don't support Democrats nor Republicans, but I am definitely more towards the Republican side. If I absolutely had to choose anyone, I would have to go with Mike Huckabee. He supports the FairTax system that I am so fond of, and he has an excellent plan to send illegal immigrants back home (they go back by themselves, how cool is that?). Outside of him, every candidate that has a lick of a chance to get nominated by his (or her) party are really, well, pathetic. If Hillary Clinton gets elected, I'm going to seriously consider leaving the country. She is going to turn our healthcare system into a crapshoot, and all of her taxings on the "evil rich" will drive me up the wall. Obama isn't nearly as bad, but he's a Democrat (still raising taxes). On the Republican side there really are no candidates that impress me either (besides Huckabee). McCain is far too old to go into office in my opinion. He'll be off of the job so much that it'll inhibit his duties. Ron Paul is a physcopath. Enough said. Romney would probably be my next choice, but then he wants to stick with the pathetic IRS. Okay, I'm gone ranting. This wasn't supposed to be this long anyways...

Obama is a born politician...

bbqsauce13: Ron Paul, a psychopath? Really? He seems like the most sane and intelligent Republican out of any of those other neocons. We spend billions of dollars, closing in on a trillion, in a bad war that we could have used to help our own people, for example, people without health insurance. It doesn't make sense at all. There are other points that I can elaborate on, but I'm not going through the trouble of writing an entire essay. If a Republican gets elected, I would, as you would if a Democrat gets elected, consider leaving the country. The exception, of course, is Ron Paul. McCain is crazy because he personally said that we should stay in Iraq for a 100 years, if we have to. If you hate taxes so much bbq, why do you not support Ron Paul? He is all for abolishing the income tax. I don't support him just because of low taxes/no taxes. I, personally, don't mind a tax, unless it is within reasonable limits. I support him mainly because he will end the war. There are many other major reasons why I support him, by the way. We are paying for this war with our taxpayer money. I don't not wish to be contributing to the war effort.

Anyways, it's looking likely that a Democrat will take office next year. Democrats are having higher turnout in the primaries than the Republicans in record numbers. The current administration has pretty much shot the reputation of the Republican party, temporarily at least. I will welcome the ascension of Clinton, Edwards, or Obama to the White House. I still highly favor Edwards or Obama, though. The reason is that I question her trustworthiness.

I dont like Romney simply because he is a typical Republican meaning A rich white guy.

1337Bloodbender-

For a while, I really did consider supporting him because, as you say, he wants to abolish income tax. However, the more I got into it, the more I realized he was really aggressive and not assertive. It's not as much as I don't like his ideas, but more of how he is presenting them. It just seems like he would freak out every time there is a crisis of any sort.

I like Mitt Rommey too, but I'd prefer Obama.
Posted Jan 23, 2008 4:48 am PT
Well as long as Hillary isn't elected I will be okay. I don't really want Obama to be elected either. Mitt Romney seems to be an okay guy, I wouldn't mind seeing him be elected.

Okay, I'm obviously not old enough to vote, (still a few more years) but I am old enough to know some facts.
My family...and I mean..a big portion, not all, are registered Republicans. I completely agree with your desicion so far and I'd like to say, it would be the same candidate that I would support if I could vote. Romney is a very good choice, and I think you are awesome for picking him. Gulliani was also good for a while..but now I don't think so. Huckabee is also a very good choice.
But overall, your choice beats all.
If there has something that I have learned through all of this, it's that if there was a person who broke his arm, a Democrat would give him the supplies, but a Republican would teach the person how to use them so they can eventually get better. I'm not saying ALL Democrats are like this, because they aren't...it's really in the state of mind.

And as for Hillary..NO WAY. She just can't win. Healthcare would go down in the dumps, doctors would basically lose their jobs and basically you'd have no freedom because the government will do everything for you. (Though the government is really the people, but you know what I mean.)

i don't know anything about politics but however gets the job done and does a great job running the country wins my vote.

my filipine friend says his dad knew obama, back in college or something.
Posted Jan 23, 2008 5:54 pm PT
i was not very in to politics before but lately i had become very interested because of my history teacher. anyways, I'm on the democratic and i'm going for Obama. A lot of pple i k are going for Hilary, but I don't think she was really cut out for it. Plus her little emotional act on tv before, not very professional if u ask me .

I live in the UK, but we get some news about the American elections. So far, I like Obama - from the little that I've seen or heard of him anyway.
Posted Jan 24, 2008 11:58 am PT
I can't vote yet, not old enough, but I would most likely vote for McCain.
Posted Jan 24, 2008 9:01 pm PT
I can't vote...but I always wanted Obama to win...though he is very inexpeirenced and as others may think his position is hard to define. (not for me ...)
Though your points on Ronmey are exellent...I just don't like his politics. As for Ron Paaul, god I love that guy- but he isn't popular enough and even if he is elected Congress is going to make life in the oval office hell for him.
Posted Jan 27, 2008 7:59 am PT
I would like Romney except I feel that he is too weak and I don't like some of his views.
I'm going towards Giuliani or Huckabee. Believe it or not, I don't think the worse Democrat is Clinton, it's definitely John Edwards.
I don't feel like doing all of my ranting here, so just check out my blogs if I ever write about politics.

i don't like hilary clinton, she seems kinda stuck up to me. i like obama.
Posted Feb 3, 2008 7:18 pm PT
I'm a freaking YEAR off the voting age. So. close...but alas, nothing can be done. T.T

Anyways, I decided early on to try my hardest to take out of account all biases I may have. But, after researching the main candidates who are running and watching a couple of their speeches and debates, I decided that I like Obama the best. I really liked his views, and his Liberal character really appealed to me. A lot of people rag on about how he has little experience in politics, but there have been a few presidents in history without political experience who weren't all too bad. I also feel that it's time for a change, which he seems to be very apt in supporting. But I tend to have Liberal views about society so this is probably the Liberal me speaking. I won't be totally upset if Hilary wins, but I am a bit suspicious of her and her intentions. I've heard her described by history teachers as a "communist in disguise" but I don't know how much of that is valid. As for the Republican Party, I agree that Mitt Romney is probably the best candidate, although I've heard a few positive things from Huckabee as well. But, their views...again, they really just didn't catch my interest. I mean, they weren't too bad, but not as good as Obama's. :]

It really stinks that Romney dropped out. But I will bet each and every one of you that he'll be in the next election. But this politics stuff is just so fun. It's like something you want to sit down and eat popcorn while watching. I love it.
