Hi guys,

I have been too busy for the last few weeks. My HSC and CET cl@sses have started and they are for 7+ hours everyday. Add some time for traveling to those 7 hours. This summer is probably the worst summer in my life. No time to play, visit GS, etc. Moreover to make thing worse, we have tests every Sunday and believe me, those tests are too hard for me.

Here's what I did in the last few weeks-

Games Update-

Got some new games and a demo.

  1. Frontlines: Fuel of War
  2. World in Conflict
  3. Frets on Fire
  4. Grid Demo

Frontlines: Fuel of War-

It's a surprisingly good game. Not the best, but really good and worth the price. The graphics are good and about the story, well I cannot say anything about the story because (you may find this weird) I don't watch the cut scenes. Haven't tried out the MP yet because of lack of time and some other reasons.

There are some problems that I faced with the game. Like, either its highly un optimized or I am the only one with the problem. I can run Crysis without any problems on med-high settings at an average 35 FPS. But this game, it runs at 20 FPS average even at medium settings and at resolution 1024x768. Anyone else faced this problem? Rest all fine about the game.

Overall, I am quite impressed the game. Everyone must try it and to make it better, its super cheap in India. Still the game is not comparable to Call of Duty 4.

World in Conflict-

Now what can I say about this game? Its an uber RTS. So good graphics, gameplay and real good story (I am watching all the cut scenes in this game). Moreover, it runs perfectly fine on my PC again on med-high settings. Again, I have not tried its MP because I never really understood it. I mean, we cannot play 1 vs 1 match in this game? Does it need to be co-op always? And no time to understand all that for now. No more words to say about this game as all know about it.

Frets on Fire-

Anyone here tried this game? If not, let me tell you. It's a game like Guitar Hero 3. Made by fans I think. Some people like it and some people hate it. I don't know any reason to hate it. Main thing is, I like it and I am having fun with it. If you like such games, you should try it too.

The best part is, the game is free and you can download it from HERE. Just 34 MB. It comes with 3 songs. You can get more songs to it by making your own songs using the in built song editor or simply download some song packs. Awesome game, but try it at your own risk because you may get addicted to this game like I am.

Grid Demo-

Grid is all about good graphics, physics, everything that a racing game should have. The graphics and physics are unbelievably good. It's a simulator + arcade type racing game. The demo had 3 race modes, which I never cared to read and hence never understood. Two of them are races I think one race cl@ss and the other is muscle cl@ss. The third one is the drift cl@ss.

The game feels so real. Feels like we are driving a real car and the people watching us playing feel like watching a real race on TV. The best part of the game is, although it has so good graphics and physics, it is not at all heavy on the system. Runs on high settings on my PC. Well not maxed out, but high settings and solid FPS is pretty good for my PC.

Shopping-

This summer, I did a lot of shopping for myself. Bought 9 T-Shirts lol. Did some major PC upgrades too.

First of all, I got a new mouse long back (I think start of this month May). It's the Logitech MX-518 Gaming mouse. It has an awesome sensor of 1800 dpi and very good grip for me. And yeah, its huge. Compared to my normal mouse, its very big. On the first day, I was not able to control it. It was too fast for me. So fast that I was not able to click on the close buttons of the windows.

Second PC upgrade is a major one. Here is a picture of what I got-

Yeah, they are 2 PCs. Included in the picture are-

2 x Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz

2 x Abit IP35-e Motherboard

2 x Corsair VX450W PSUs

2 x G.Skill 2 GB RAM

1 x Cooler Master Elite 330 cabinet

Not included in the picture are-

1 x Western Digital 750 GB SATA HDD

1 x Western Digital 320 GB SATA HDD

3 x Asus DVD RW

1 x Tag USB Hard Disk cage

Now you may be wondering why 2 PCs. It is 1 for me and other one for my Dad.

Life Update-

As mentioned earlier, I am too busy with all my cl@sses and stuff. Still managed one day out. Although I have no interest in sports especially cricket, I went to watch the IPL match at Wankhede Stadium last Wednesday. The match was against Mumbai Indians and Mohali Super Kings XI. What an awesome match! Tension of losing till the last ball. Finally we lost the match but I enjoyed the experience. So many people cheering, and I had never ever seen a cricket match in stadium except Cartoon Network cricket 6 years back.

I am planning to go for the finals of IPL on 1st June at the D.Y.Patil stadium. Hope I get time and the ticket. Also almost forgot to tell you all that I am enjoying eating a lot of mangoes. So much mangoes that I am sure that I have put up some weight.

So that's all for now. I am a bit too busy for now and I think I will be free by 10th or 11th of June.

So bye all and enjoy gaming!

tuitions for more than 7 hours? You dont see cutscenes? Man, good (high-tech, which I dont understand) specs
Posted May 25, 2008 8:55 am PT
That was a very nail-biting match between Punjab and Mumbai. Enjoy the finals. I prefer to see cricket in TV (lol CN matches! I remember them )

@ Neeraj
yeah thanks

@ king23_
hmm awesome games. especially frets on fire. i had never expected so much from it

@ Viveckvivu
yes i never watch cut scenes and 7 hours cl@ss sucks seriously and about the match yes it was nail-biting. i was biting my nails all through the last 2 overs. and cricket IMO looks better in stadium. on TV no fun. in stadium, all mexican wave and all that. and yeah CN matches were fun

wic actually is the first rts to be designed around 16 players, so 1 vs 1 is better in games like CoH

Yeah Grid looks fantastic and you really should overclock your PC to squeeze out those extra frames.

@ Anshul

i fear OCing my GPU. its idle temps are 65 degrees :s what will be the load? and any need to OC the CPU?

Great games, great rig

I didn't meet anyone who hated Frets on Fire though, because people who played it are the ones who wanted to play it, and liked it

It could be different Keyboard designs making it hard to choose the fret keys and also... f4 and f5 are quite far away.
Posted May 25, 2008 11:57 am PT
wait, what!???!!!! 320+720GB ? What? And I thot i was the king of disk spaces
btw the rig is uber kewl man, awesome, hav a lota fun with it.
Yeah me also tried GRID Demo, and truly it is the most beautiful looking racing game I have seen till now. :O
Posted May 25, 2008 2:23 pm PT
I tried Frets on Fire once but I could never get the songs to work
Posted May 25, 2008 3:00 pm PT
sounds busy indeed, I've only played the grid demo from those games, it was fairly good I agree, looks nice. Good luck with your study. Nice pc parts, looks like a good setup.
Posted May 25, 2008 3:08 pm PT
@ Reetesh
I don't use the default controls in frets on fire i use A,S,D,F and space bar

@ Shiben
not uber cool rig re. i still don't have 9800 GTX it will be uber cool when i get that. and yeah Grid looks amazingly beautiful. most beautiful game i have ever played

@ King23_
oh, what problem were you getting?

@ nutcrackr
thanks. studying sucks
Posted May 25, 2008 10:11 pm PT
oh, dont you hold the keyboard like a guitar?
Posted May 26, 2008 4:08 am PT
no
i play it with A,S,D,F and space
Posted May 26, 2008 8:59 am PT
I just could never put any songs on the game for some reason.

And you're good with designing stuff aren't you? If so could you make something for me? pm me for the details.
Posted May 26, 2008 9:29 am PT
Try out StepMania then, it has a larger userbase and also a larger library(also quite older), if you are going to not use the keyboard like a guitar then most of the fun in Frets is gone.

A mag had scorched Frontlines for its poor AI and lack of variety in the missions. WiC as far as I've heard is great.
Cool PC specs, but I don't see a graphic card there. You're mot gonna use the onboard graphx r u?
Posted May 26, 2008 9:32 pm PT
@ Reetesh
StepMania? whats that?.

@ sandyqbj
yes. frontlines lacks variety of missions. they are mostly like capture that point, this point, intel, etc. and onboard it does not exist on my motherboard. that motherboard is without onboard graphics. i already have a 8600 GT. so i am using that card now. i think i may get some 9 series card soon.
Posted May 26, 2008 10:57 pm PT
Its a PC, community version of DDR, just like how FoF is for GH.

I think you know DDr, no? The one with the dancing mats and stuff, which revolutionised party gaming that, its in many US college gyms too
Posted May 27, 2008 2:36 am PT
@ Reetesh
is it free?
Posted May 28, 2008 10:35 am PT
Community version, just like FoF = Free

And try AudioSurf Demo too, its quite nice too. sounds kinda like VibRibbon(but more detailed etc etc) from what I've heard, I will play it one day for sure!
Posted May 28, 2008 3:02 pm PT
@ reetesh
i have tried audiosurf. pure crap. may be because i never understood the objective of the game.
Posted May 29, 2008 9:53 am PT
so a 9 series card eh? the 9600 shows better performance than the 8600 at slightly higher prices. Go for it if ur gonna buy a GC now
Posted May 31, 2008 12:33 pm PT
ya i know. but may be i will not buy a GPU. because of my 12th grade
Posted May 31, 2008 11:19 pm PT

Posted Jun 1, 2008 11:08 pm PT

Hey man!! Nice rigs.. anyways, nice to see that ur playing so many games.. and well am in a mango mood too .. well not exactly packing pounds but eating a lotta mangoes, yeah!!

and dude dun wry abt exams.. u still have time.. u need 105 marks in AIEEE to get into counselling which is equal to exactly 105/3=35 questions correct.. .. sounds easier this way doesn't it

well just study hard.. play a lil less.. concentrate more.. n u'll do well.. or else give our state entrance test.. (OJEE).. 30000 seats in engg!!!! XD
i mean decent colleges are within 6000 anyways.. and private colleges here are really good some of em.. like KIIT which has a total wireless campus and also as much masti as u want XD
Posted Jun 18, 2008 10:56 pm PT
@ Frag_1
thanks friend. and yes i have started studying slowly. aim for 90+% in PCM in HSC. i think that way i may be able to cover the portion for AIEEE and MHT-CET coz i think the portion is same. rite?

Wow man, that's some blog you made

I didn't have the time to go through this one back at home. I must have been very busy...in fact, I think this was during my away time from gamespot. Anyway, good purchases. I hope to assemble a nice rig here, let's see how that goes. I am quite broke, so I should make a little bit of money first.

I am looking forward to playing some good FPS games in the future, but for now, I am going to stick to games on my laptop, like Age of Empires
Posted Jul 23, 2008 2:04 pm PT
WOW ! Awesome P.C rig u got plus awesome games too, most congrats polya Starting Sep tons awesome P.C games coming , have a blast playing and njoying them all I wish i had such a nice P.C set up as urs , maybe later perhaps as i'm on tight budget nowadays

Have fun man
Posted Sep 1, 2008 9:38 pm PT
@ Chandu
if your laptop has a 7600 GT or better, try company of heroes. its an awesome game. it used to work on my 6200 too but at low settings

@ Indz
thanks man. and yeah some good games coming this year end. actually i don't think you need to upgrade your PC to play the new games. they will run easily on high settings on your PC. 7950 > 8600.
Posted Sep 1, 2008 11:55 pm PT
No re polya ur card is very good , it has Shader Model 4 .0 whereas my card is SM 3.0 Plus ur rest config really better than mine anyday re. See CRYSIS 4 example , it runs way better on 8600 , than on 7 series , i lagged on Crysis even on low settings .lol.

But ye i'm happy if i can play my P.C games on low settings too atm , 'll upgrade later if i get cash due to gods grace in future
Posted Sep 2, 2008 9:37 am PT
wow i never thought that SM will do so vast difference. anyways i hope you get your new PC soon.
