Before the Revolution -Bernardo Bertolucci's first monumnetal film has not recieved a region 1 dvd release, which is a real shame. Bertolucci went on to be one of the most renown directors of his time and remains to be in both english and italian.

The Last Emperor -Winner of 9 Oscars and another Bertolucci gem, this was monumental politcally and artistically. As almost a brother to the six hour 1900, Bertollucci follows the change in culture after a major event. A confessed Marxist Bertolucci's view changed dramatically from WWI and Mussollini to the popular revolution in China gone awry. Though it was once out on DVD, it has been unavailible for some time.

Black Peter -Milos Foreman's first film is currently availible in a very hard to find [I know this from experiance] pan-and-scan dvd. This is a monumental film in need of restoration from experts and a decent transfer wouldn't hurt.

Ten Minutes Older -A set of two short films [the trumpet and the cello] made in 2000. The films were done by a multitude of directors including Bertolucci, Godard and Jiri Menzel.

Army of Shadows -Winner of theNew York Film Critics Circle 2006 foriegn film award, ironically the film came out in 1969. One of Melville's finest, it is likely to come out on dvd this, keep your fingers crossed.

The Magnificent Ambersons -Those who have seen this know why I mention this, that is the first 3/4 of the film. Though the end was taken out and reshot by the dstribution compony, the rest remains excellent. The film had a Criterion laserdisc release and now needs the same on DVD.

Wooden Cross -Russel Bernard Masterpiece, considered to be one of the greatest French films of all time [along with Jules et Jim, Le Illusion Grande, and Faire Les Quart Cent Coups]. There are rumors of a release on the new criterion line, Eclipse, but nothing has been confirmed.

The Deep -A seldom seen Welles film, that needs the DVD treatment. The entire film takes place at sea and has been described as The Posieden Adventure in art house form.

I know of Bertolucci, I haven't seen any of his movies though he is held in very high regard. I would very much like to catch some of his work. I can't really think of any that I'd add to the list, most movies I like are already on DVD (many being "straight to DVD" movies!!)

Wren: The version of before the revolution released on region one dvd is actually 1.6, which is not compatible with most region 1 dvd players, so it is not usually regarded as such. I had a 1.6 of a different film and it only worked on my pc.

Viper: I'm not sure about you brits, but we Americans saw an excellent release of The Conformist this year.
