Well it wasn't awful, so it was better than expected. The plot was convoluted and had a several holes, the human characters were simple and underdeveloped, and the dialog was pretty awful. There were a few funny moments, but they usually felt contrived and forced. Most of the supporting characters fell into extremely cliched predefined roles. The performances were not that bad, and I actually thought that Shia Lebouf was pretty good. But none of the above matters, because there were robots that turn into cars and planes, blow stuff up, and battle to the death. If you wanted anything else, then you probably walked into the wrong theater.
