OK, so I just got back from a 2-day trip to Vancouver (which hey, fun), to find near pandemonium in the fandom over the CW's proposed post-strike schedule. Admittedly, I was (and still am not) as freaked out about this as some might expect (especially after my hell-raising bit over the whole mixed messages/lack of PR fiasco over last summer's hiatus), but let's just say, I was expecting this. It sucks, but by now, my standards are lowered enough to not expect any love from the CW. That being said, it is potentially worisome to catestrophic not to mention just a bit of a slight (how come WE can't have our reruns aired?) It would get "Supernatural" some new exposure, help the existing fans re-connect with their favorite program, attract new viewers, provide a great alternative to endless game shows and reality shows; in short, it would be a great money-making opportunity for the CW. So far, I haven't seen any opinions/direction/"the sky is falling" comments coming from the "Supernatural" brass, so until I do, I'm sitting back in a sort of hyper-alert, warry, information-collecting mode.

But clearly, huge chunks of the fandom are already up in arms. In the 2 hours I've been back online since returning from "Supernatural's" homeland I've seen multiple mentions of the "C" word (the one that means non-renewal), rants against the network (and it's president), petitions, mentions of letter writing campagns, salt-sending campaigns (cool idea, by the way), and some other folks in the wait-and-see boat. I'm concerned, I'm on pins and needles, but I'm not completely freaking out yet. However, I DO want to know what all of you think and have heard. What is your take on the situation? What sources (URLs are our friends!) have you found and what have they said? What are you planning to do? What would you LIKE the CW to do, and what are you prepared to ask for? Do you know of any activities/actions/campaigns being planned by fans at other fansites and communities?

Why do I ask? Well, we're SN fans, and we're all in this together. For example, this coming fall, no less than a dozen (I think the tally is actually a bit higher now) SFU (Supernatural Fans United--the fan club started by members of the tv.com "Supernatural" community) from all over the world will be attending the Creation convention in Chicago. Our fandom is usually one big happy family... unfortunately we do hang out in little cliques and don't all communicate with each other all the time. So, whatever we do, we should coordnate, communicate, and conspire. Whether we take action NOW or a week from now or never, it would work best if we did it together. So, I'd love to get us all on the same page (or at least be on the same page) as everyone else. The question is, how do we get there?

So, if you've got a minute, a tidbit of information, or a thought you want to send my way, PLEASE leave me a comment or send me a PM! I hope to hear from all y'all soon!

P.S., Nope, I haven't forgotten that I still owe blog recap/reviews for episodes 3.07 and 3.08. They will be forthcoming... I've just been a little overwhelmed by those episodes and have been suffering from writers' block recently, so I'll get them up there sooner or later! (Hopefully sooner!)

Paley! I suppose it's diff in the US. Here we've had no re-runs or new eps for ages now

I don't want SPN to be cancelled...I would like go into shock & mourning...I have no idea what we could do All I've heard is that The Reaper will be airing instead of SPN repeats. It all comes down to the strike doesn't it? The longer it goes on the bigger SPN fans are gonna get screwed

Well Suze, that's pretty much it. Many (but not all) other shows are just having reruns (sometimes very, very old reruns) being aired after new episodes run out if the strike is still ongoing. It's also a fairly standard thing for many/most shows (aside from those that have well, seasonal seasons like American Idol, 24, Lost, and a few other shows) to run repeats (usually just of the current season though) when on hiatus... so, it's at least a little unfair to SN to lose the opportunity to retain/gain exposure and draw in new fans by being pulled from it's regular slot instead of getting to run ITs reruns. But it's not necessarly the end of the world, and no one official on any side has said anything like the "C" word, but of course, most of us fans are let's say, *skitish* now.

If you're looking for something constructive and non drastic to do in the meantime, check out Team Winchester's petition... I can't link to it, but if you google it it should come up somehow. And mea culpa...I didn't know that posting URLs on blogs was against TV.com policy... I'm usually pretty good about remembering all the rules, but I guess it's been a while since I've even thought about doing that and the rule entirely slipped my mind. Hopefully I got this edited before any further truouble ensues. *profusely appologizes*

Paley when i heard i freaked out as well! My problem isnt that Reaper is taking their place but there is no episodes being re-run at all! I mean to me it just seems that the network is placing the newer shows before its older ones, which annoys me again. I dont think that they will "C" it cause SN is one its biggest rating shows! But you never know stranger things have happened!

i created a new inn for this.. i ask them to head to ur blog.
Posted Jan 7, 2008 6:08 am PT
argh... Paley you posted an URL in here...
Blog Rule #1 : NEVER post a url in the comment
section... it messes the page
and you can't read all the lines...

And I'm not freaking out like I mentioned in the threads
I'm like you carefully watching what happens next...
But should I hear any word from official SN, then I'll
be ready to jump and grab my weapons.

About unifying scattered groups, I guess the only way
is to have someone go over all the various boards and leave
messages out there to spread the word and eventually let
everyone know there will be like an "information booth"
of all things concerning actions to be taken in the name
of Supernatural. Now the thing is to build this place...
And then keep it alive and under smart control...
Wouldn't we be perfect for that ??
I'm up for it if you are (already had something like that
more or less under construction this summer, but I drop it)

I must admit i freaked the hell out when i first read it but I've regained control of myself for now. I'm just going to try and be as well informed as possible before taking any action. It's going to be hard to get all the different groups from dif sites together but not impossible. The best option is the one Lizzie mentioned about leaving the messages because i know that there are a few members from here that are also in other sites.

I have to say that if i knew who came up with the idea of sending salt i would high five him/her because its a pretty cool idea. But honestly i hope it doesn't come down to the the "C" word.

I am glad you created a blog about how bad this situation is. There is also a myspace bulletin with the link to the petition that Gem created. Team Winchester would be proud of us. I have signed the petition twice since I feel so strongly how very bad this is.

I guess the salt idea has been around "for years"...
meaning by that... I know when I was sending nuts for Jericho,
there was the S3 uncertainty and the obvious thing to send
to save SN imposed itself as being salt...

Like you say, let's hope it won't come to that... and if
it does, then we should send it to the SN HQ in Vancouver
so that at least they could reuse it during the winter to
keep their road safe !!!

well, I'll say here what I said over in Pixie's Inn:
I understand wanting a unified front, but I really have no idea how to pull all the different worlds of fandom together...It's like an octopus with WAAAY too many tentacles, each joined by a centralized source, but singularly out on their own. I'm certainly not worried about next year's season, but it would be great for Supernatural to show re-runs to generate more exposure and a wider fan base. I just hope the network hears us and actually cares.

Hey sparky, thanks for stopping by. Yeah, I would be happy if they would just show *some* Supernatural reruns somewhere in their schedule. I don't care if they want to try out a different time slot (that has its problems, but if we're getting reruns and airtime and are somewhere on the air, that's at least some exposure and some time/place we can send people to watch the show), but as you said, that's not their plan at the moment. And that is a problem.
Posted Jan 7, 2008 10:49 am PT
Lizzie, let me know what you've done... 'cause I think an information booth (but not on here... someplace non-territorial, it's own little place that can follow it's own rules) is exactly what we need... (Thank you Pix for all our ideas AND for creating a new inn for this topic!!) So, now... how do we go about setting it up?

Oh, and lizzie, I removed the URL. I am sorry I didn't realize that was a problem. I thought I had posted URLs in blogs before, but oh well, never mind... My appologies!

Hike, thanks for stopping by... you know, having multiple petitions or the same person signing the ame petition multiple times, is kind of part of the communication problem I'm talking about... while it's good that we're all so concerned and passionate that a lot of us want to do something *right now* (and others of us want to wait to get a better idea of what's going on), having multiple petitions dilutes the strength force of each petition. Signing the same petition over and over again, CAN have the same effect--it MIGHT be a good strategy, it also might not... why? Well, because if we make it look like it's just the same little group of us over and over again then the CW won't take us seriously, they can more easily dismiss us as a very vocal, but small, portion of their audience. However, if we are all doing the same things in the same place, and say turn circulate a single petition that has all unique, nonrepeating signatres with a very arge total of signatures, they're more likely to stand up and take notice. But then again, is a petition even a good idea? I don't think it will hurt? But are we all asking for the same thing? Is it our best strategy right now... that's why we need a means of communication for all parts of the fandom!! So, once again, thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your ideas!!

Shazz, I'm curious as to why you're *not* worried about Season 4 (not saying you *should* be, just curious as to why you're not)... so, please do tel!!

And yeah, that's the big problem... how and where can we share ideas so that this many-tentacled SN fandom beast can all work in the same direction?? I like pixie and lizzie's idea about a central information clearinghouse type thing (that's kind of what I was thinking too)... so, are there other ideas? Anyone have any ideas as to how to impliment such a thing? Anyone know if any of the other fansites are doing/planning anything?

Paley... I didn't mean you were not aloud to post a link in the blog... Duh, now i feel bad for wanting to make it sound like something horrible

I just meant that since the links are usually longer than what a line in a blog comment can hold, it messes with the way the posts appear. You didn't notice that half the words were missing in the comments ? (except mine of course )and that now that the link disappeared everything is back to normal... Anyway that's just a technicality and no way a TVcom rule, just to make things clear.

So let me try to post it again in a way it will be working...
Petition for SN repeats
Posted Jan 7, 2008 1:21 pm PT
Oh yeah and of course I'll let you know, probably this WE, what I had in mind. I need to go home first and will have tons to do there... hell I haven't been there for more than 2 months now I am a bit scared of what I'm gonna find ...

So whatever, yep I'll keep you posted if nothing else shows up in the mean time.
Posted Jan 7, 2008 1:24 pm PT
I'm sure I've already signed that petition. SPN fans are a good bunch. Prays all will be good...another 5 seasons...at least

Paley, thanks for the heads up about signing petitions more than once. I hope the CW understands that we the fans want Supernatural to keep on the air no matter what it shows. If you figure out a course of action, count me in.

*lends Paley an ear*

Sorry, couldn't resist...
Posted Jan 7, 2008 6:19 pm PT
Aw, thanks Belle, and thanks for reading... So, do you have any keen ideas on what to do to get us all on the same page... I mean, just looking at Suze's post above, this is the problem. People put petitions up there and we're not even sure if we've signed them, because things propogate and mulitply in such convoluted fashions that sometimes fans fail to take action because it's too much, too confusing, or they think they've already done it... that's a problem!

Oh, and thanks, Lizzie, for posting the link to the petition!! It's a very well-worded petition and is very reasonable; the Team Winchester peeps generally have their heads on correctly, so I'm happy to support their efforts for now... if only we can get EVERYONE coordiated if further action is required.

I think that they're rerunning Reaper because it's a new hope for them, in that it's a new series and it's very possible that it hasn't reached it's maximum audience potential yet. The reason they've probably chosen this over SN is that SN has been out there a lot longer, and, as far as their reasoning probably goes, is much more likely, in that time, to have been brought to most people's attention. That's not to say I agree with their decision, I just can see what their reasoning might be. Personally, I think rerunning Season 1 of Supernatural would be a good idea, as it is more likely to pull in new viewers than Seasons 2 or 3. But, above all, I don't understand why both can't be aired - surely they are airing the shows side-by-side at the moment (or were doing pre-Xmas)? So why the hell can't they do the same when both are into repeats? Confusing, to say the least...
Posted Jan 13, 2008 8:23 am PT
Yep, I get their reasoning (and faulty logic) of why the're running Reaper (and I'm not exaclty surprised), but it's the "why can't you still put SN reruns on?" question that makes no sense. Sure, try out Reaper in the Thursday at 9 timeslot, I don't have a problem with that; but just put SN reruns on somewhere (perhaps on Sunday at 9, where our extra reruns were in the Summer and where the WB used to rerun the week's epi)...

I've signed lots of petitions about the CW and such, but I really don't think it's helping (although I haven't followed up on the results). If there is an idea on what we could do...send me PM, flare gun me, throw a stick at me, or something! I would LOVE to be apart of the action!
