(don't worry, i'm not leaving the site)
Two bombshells relating to Australian and American TV have come to light and as i have my foot in both camps, i'm going to report them.
TV talks show king Rove has announced the termination of his hugely popular show on the 15th of November after 10 years of making us all laugh with his energetic and easygoing humor coupled with his lighthearted interviews with some of the world's biggest stars. Admist the decade of fun, there has been some dark moments of the show; the most notable being the death of Rove's beloved wife in 2006 which saw the show take a break which many thought would be permanent, the numerous controversial retirements of the show's cast and segments which often was met with public outrage and not to mention Rove's colossal failure at attempting to crack the U.S market. The phrase "all good things must come to an end" has gained a lot more substance lately and the cancellation of this great show is yet another strong example; i wish personal good luck to Rove and his future ventures and join in the lament of fellow fans who tuned into this show dutifully and must now stare at a hole in our TV line-up.
This other piece of news has been a rumour for some time but finally gained considerable validity when Arj Barker announced on a radio interview that the up-and-coming show Flight of the Conchords was over. In just two years, this show has garnered universal acclaim thanks to its hilariously subtle humour combined with outstanding musical numbers and finally showed that comedy/musicals aren't restricted to the DVD collections of gay guys (sorry!). As Jemaine and Bret move on to other projects, they will always be remembered as the two awkward New Zealand bandmates who are just trying to meet girls and find fame in NYC (despite doing quite badly at both).
It's a shame my first blog post in a while was to report these two unfortunate events but it is a sign that TV can bring both pleasure and pain.
Stay cool tv.com
The awful weather up here has seen me rely on my DVD collection until the mopey gray clouds go away and there's nothing better than some Laguna Beach to remind one of what nice weather is like. In my absence i hope that someone can make lame comments and write verbose reviews on my behalf until i get back.
Peace
While looking through my old (mostly very cringeworthy) forum posts, i came across my idea for a Family Guy episode. What do you think?
"Road to New York"
In New York; two huge companies are merging, Quanton and Boss Hog, they are combined to make Quahog. Because of this the city of Quahog must change their name. There's a town meeting to decide on the new name but Brian decides to go to New York and complain to the company with Stewie by his side. Problems arise early on since they can't fly there because their Quahog passports are no longer valid so they distract the airport with a song so they can sneak on a plane. As the plane takes off we see an animated Seth Macfarlane who clearly missed it and cries "Not again, oh wait. Maybe it's for the best". After having fun in the Big Apple, they go to the building and confront the executives of the company but they are thrown out saying that they have more money than the economy of Quahog and can't be sued by them. Stewie and Brian then go to Wall Street and hack onto the main computer, their plan is to alter the performance of Quahog incs. stock to show that it has fallen and that the company was broke and then they'd have to change the name back. After some typing all Brian needs is the date to finish the editing and Stewie tells him it's October the 10th, 2008 and a second later all of the stocks go red and people are screaming, the digital graph plunges. Stewie remarks "Wow, that was fast". Later Brian and Stewie are in the office of the executives:
Exec 1: In light of this company declaring super duper bankruptcy we've decided to give your city their name back.
Brian: Oh thanks so much. (On the TV George Bush is announcing a $700 billion Wall - Street bailout which Brian quickly turns off)
Brian: So what will your company be called instead?
Exec 2: Well if we combine Quanton and Boss Hog another way it comes up with "Boston". How about that?
Brian and Stewie at the same time: We love it. (End credits)
