I have seen so many pictures of devastation lately with the floods, earthquakes and other fates imposed by nature. It always seems so far away. I GET IT NOW!!
We had tons of rain here over the weekend and the small town I live in is hanging by a thread. Yesterday the dam threatened to break. This means flooded roads, water everywhere and evacuations. I live two blocks from the evacuation area. Some dear friends live in it. They are now my housemates. I am blessed to be Jesus' hands now - cooking, washing, helping and most important loving. I do what I can while we watch the water and listen for news.
Last night we biked through the area and watched friends and neighbors fill and stack sandbags. Watched firemen and police direct traffic, help with evacuations - all bone tired. Watched restaurants deliver food for tired volunteers. It's home to me now and it's almost surreal.
But I will never see another news report of a flood quite the same.
