As in anti-Halo, if you will. Starring Apprentice Tribesman, or something.

The world, and Gamespot has gone Halo nuts. Almost every blog I have tracked seems to have it as a topic and while I have nothing against Halo 3, it's all wearing a bit thin for me. Thing is, I'm a PC Gamer (besides some retro consoles). That means I constantly get the short end (or the sharp one) of the Halo stick from Microsoft and co.

I understand Halo => Xbox = winnar. Fair enough, in today's capitalist society, something like this must be milked. I haven't seen Halo 3 cereal yet, but maybe that's just because I didn't go into the right store, otherwise I see tons of Halo-related products. Once again, not something I have a problem with. Getting gaming into the mainstream is always a good thing in my book. What bugs me is getting screwed over, in other words the "sloppy seconds" form Halo releases for the PC tend to take. The first one was fun, until I got caught in some sort of paradox and kept enterring the same room again and again. Then there were some vehicle shenanigans, but the room curse put me off labelling the game a masterpiece. Twas a good shooter, it just came out too late. If it had had a simultaneous release with the xbox one...

Then came Halo 2. I haven't played it. Gasp. It's probably good. I could play it, as I got a new PC a few months back and went with Vista. What annoys me is the fact that Halo's Vista-only. It certainly doesn't need Vista, judging from the screenshots. But they make it Vista-only so that it forces us to upgrade if we want to play it, much like with the 360. Oh, and we also have to wait years for what is essentially a port. I just love ports! Once again us PC gamers are getting a late invitation to the party. Not only that, it's a slightly dated party, that everyone's already left, and we can't get in without a newer model of shoes. Thanks, guys!

Halo 3 is upon us. Well, not upon me, because I have no 360, and MS can't release it on PC at the same time, because it's fueling 360 sales and they want to keep laughing at Sony. Where does this leave me? Well, no Halo 3 for a few years, and if I were really cynical I'd predict you'll need Vista SP2 to play it, but I'll just stick with "will need Vista" for now. I'm also probably going to get the ending spoiled like scott did, but I can't do much about that either, except open up some cans of whupass when it happens. Anyway, I had to buy something else today at the store, as everyone's getting new games. Then I saw it:

A lemmings pack! I don't know if this is as un-halo as you can get, since Lemmings 3D features first-person Lemming action, and Lemmings paintball has the critters shooting each other, but it's close enough in my book. I didn't buy it for that reason, though. I bought it because of that bite of nostalgia reminding me of the days of fiddling with sound card settings and typing "vgalemmi". I'd call it a simpler time, but I think that wouldn't be true, haha. I also haven't played Lemmings in years, despite being very much into them in their time.

So here's the thing. Continue making games for the PC, by all means, puh-leeeze! But don't treat us all like a bunch of slobbering walking wallets and just keep serving up the half-arsed ports. Otherwise we'll just return to our gems,of which the PC has many. PC Gamers may be a dying breed, but by golly, we're discerning croakers.

Lemmings? Awesome!

It does suck that PC gamers get the short end of the stick with Halo 3, but you have to realize that PC gaming has faltered and console gaming has taken over. I'm not saying I don't like PC gaming, I'm just saying that consoles rule right now.

PC gamers are a dying breed, yes - although I'm not particularly an exclusively PC gamer, I'm still loyal to that platform more than any other, and yes, I feel your pain about ports and such. You do realize I bought the 360 literally JUST for Halo 3?

It is clear you aren't anti-Halo, just anti-Halo hype. I am the same way and I agree it has been a bit too much this past week. >_>

As probably the biggest Halo fan that you know on GS, I want you to know as well, I'm not writing anymore Halo 3 blogs. My most recent blog, I stated to the guys who read my blog before it, would be my last Halo 3 blog until I review the game. The next blogs I put up will have absolutely nothing to do with Halo 3. I hate the whole, "ZOMG!!! 9.5!!!" blogs up there, they piss me off. But what can you do, people are all caught in the hype. Good for them, but I prefer a level head over hot-headed, empty, soulless (too many adjectives?) hype.

And like I said, I'm probably the biggest Halo fan you know on GameSpot. Want proof? It's all in the last Halo 3 blog I put up.

Enjoy your game of Lemmings, man.

NeoJedi: Don't I know it! I've been watching that PC section shrinking and getting shoved into the back corners of shops these last 10 years.

scott: I thought you bought it for Gears and some other game. Or out of boredom. I stand corrected though, hail to the chief!

usagi: I suppose it's the hype that gets me more, yes, but on the other hand I do want people talking about games and the media writing about them as much as possible. I'm just not going to be reading it all. I'm still mainly irritated at being screwed over as a PC Gamer more than anything.

Foolz3h: Good thing not many people visit here, you might get lynched otherwise. (not by me, mind!)

Neon: I've no doubt it's a good game. Who knows, maybe there's even a bit of jealousy creeping in when I can't be bothered to read all those Halo blogs. If I had a PC edition to play, I'd probably be writing and reading em too. I still think you need more Halo-stuff on your profile to be accepted as nummer wun fan on GS though! And no, you can never have too many adjectives. Well, three is still good, anyway. Cheers to level-headedness always.

Well I played Combat Evolved on the pc and wasn't overly impressed. So I could care less if or when Microsoft is going to port H3 to the pc. And I agree with stevenscott14 that pc gamers are a dying breed. I've played most of my games this decade on pc, but as of late I'm shifting my focus towards the consoles.

Hi Hastur, thanks for stopping by. I've watched that PC section shrinking over the years, and I'm one of the few PC Gamers that I think is truly "dying." I have not moved to consoles, I just play less. Oh well. Works out ok for me, though, all things considered.

I completely agree with you about the Halo franchise. I'd much rather play all of them on the PC, since IMO first person shooters are just better on PC. But Microsoft decides to give us ports 3 years after they come out and the games just can't compare to whats on the PC market 3 years later.

Glad to hear it! Aah, the perils of franchises and system-selling.

Lemmings! Such an awesome game, in every version or expansion you get. Even though I love Halo, I hate Microsoft with their PC ports for Halo games, awful timing (Halo 2 Vista looks soooooooooo dated).
