Now this is a series I loved since sixth-seventh grade. The first game I played in the series was Gauntlet: Dark Legacy on the PS2, which is also one of the first PS2 games I've played. I loved it, but I didn't love it as much as I did Gauntlet: Legends on the N64.
Gauntlet: Legends was basically the earlier game of Dark Legacy, less worlds, less missions, the whole lot, but I still enjoyed it more than Dark Legacy. In fact, I still have the game with the N64 and is one of my favorite N64 games of all time, despite the fact Gamespot gave it a poor score.
When Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows was announced, I was excited that a new Gauntlet game was coming out, but at the time was kinda disappointed that it might be for a more mature audience (I wasn't allowed for M rated games at the time, I was in Jr. High, it was a T rating though so some relief came to me), but when reviews came in (mainly from X-Play's 2/5) I was still wanting to play it, but not as much. Which I didn't play it until four years later (which is this year) and playing it when I borrowed my parents PlayStation 2, I was like "Wow! What an upset to the Gauntlet franchise." I found enjoyment in it somewhat, but it really didn't feel the same.
Maybe I should look for the first two Midway Arcade Treasure games, I hear they have the original two Gauntlet arcade games on there.
Well, there is always hoping there'll be a remake on WiiWare, or something like that.

It's basically an arcade sty1e RPG where you can play alone or with friends. In Gauntlet: Legends on the N64, PSOne, and Dreamcast, you'll be able to play as either a female archer, a male warrior, a valkyrie, or a wizard. The added on port, Gauntlet: Dark Legacy on the PS2, XBOX, and Gamecube has the same things, but with added characters such as a Knight, Sorceress, Jester, and Dwarf. You can name whatever you want your character to be.
All the game is a simple hack/beat em' up, but it's really fun, especially with friends.
Personally, I found good in their Legends/Dark Legacy games, but I do agree that their last game, Seven Sorrows wasn't as good as we thought. Oh well, you're also right on older Gauntlet games to enjoy.
