Why limit myself to what others think I should think. If it's fantasy, then it isn't real. Hence, no boundries should exist.
As an adult, I have the right to adult thoughts. Hold up a child as your shield and demand I conform to your way of thinking all you want. My thoughts alone hurt no one. So long as I keep fantasy and reality seperate, since they are, I harm no one with my fantasies. I can be as evil, dark, forboding, monsterous, heinous, perverse, and adult-oriented as I want. So long as it's fantasy and stays there.
With that in mind, I consider the ultimate forms of adult gaming. I am a fan of RPG, 3D action/shooter games, "reality" games (such as games in actual or pseudo-actual cities where one can interact with NPC characters and objects, including buildings (think GTA VC and SA if you want)), RTS, advanced SIM games, and freeplay/sandbox games.
I have no problem with open-ended character creation. Both the main character and the make up of NPC characters. Being a heterosexual male, I would, for my own adult game, have a male main character and NPCs (enemies, etc.) would be designed female. I will reiterate this over and over for those who have trouble with the concept: Fantasy is not reality.
Let's see:
(1) A game where the setting can be altered extensively. Maybe a starting point of a massive starship containing a massive "holodeck" allowing the loading of many scenarios and locations. Give it the ability to set parameters and levels (like an editor).
(2) The ability to "genetically" alter the main character. Make the main character a woman if you want. Make him a giant to the NPCs. Give him multiple "appendages". Give him different body types (such as the torso and head of a human but the lower body, legs, arms, pincers, and tail of a scorpion). Give him different and combinable body functions (such as teeth and blood draining ability of a vampire along with soul draining abilities and the ability to devour flesh (like a werewolf)). The character may be naturally invincible but have the ability to "turn off holodeck safety protocols", allowing the character to be injured if so chosen.
(3) The ability to edit NPCs. For those with different interests, could change any aspect including gender. Also set different levels for each NPC in the game. Have different stat and skill levels. Example of stats include: Fear, Strength, Dexterity, Cunning, Intelligence, Offensive, Defensive, Concern (for other NPCs). I probably could come up with others. Skills would include ability to use various weapons or melee fighting, use of vehicles, use of explosives, Magic (maybe), stealth, use of machinery (like computers), ability to set various traps, and probably a number of other skills. You could also edit appearance of NPCs, making different human races and looks as well as non-human characters (if you so desired I suppose).
(4) Levels of NPCs determine how they respond. A level 0 NPC is a "doll" or "maniquin". No response to how you treat them. After that, depending on stats and skills, they may react in terror but not run from you, run at the sight of you, stand their ground but not fight or defend themselves or others, or if set high enough, take the offensive and try to take you out. There are many ways the NPC can be set to react. Level 0 is there mostly to get used to the controls. After a time, it will of course be boring, which is why there are higher levels to chose.
(5) All aspects of the game in relation to characters and inanimate objects/scenery can be picked up, dismantled/dismembered, blow up, shot, bent, folded, spindled, and at times, in ways it wasn't really meant to be treated.
(6) Combat is handled with melee, melee weapons (swords, whips, bats, etc), projectile weapons (ancient (bows) to future (laser)), torture, dismemberment, special melee body parts (pincers, biting, biting off opponents body parts, eating opponents, stabbing with scorpion tales, stomping, kicking, many other forms). Since this is adult-oriented, nothing is left out. Even sexual violence is valid. And since fantasy and reality are seperate, go wild with your imagination as to just how far the sex and violence can go.
(7) Each scenario can either merely be a skirmish or designed with a story plot.
A really dark fantasy thinker can come up with some incredible scenarios and ideas. Probably even darker than my own. But as I keep saying, fantasy and reality are seperate, so there should be no limit as to what you can accomplish in creating such a game.
