Well, I haven't blogged on this site for so long... (again). Well, I'm going to Canada in a week, Montreal to be precise. Nevertheless, I'm excited! I don't really know what I'm gonna do there yet, but it's a good break from everyday life.
Hopefully anyone that's reading this blog (which isn't a lot of people) is having a spectacular summer while it's still here. September 2006 is just around the corner which means one thing: back to school.
I'm extremely excited about television upfronts, especially this year, with The CW coming in, but The CW is especially disappointing me this year. They have decided to cancel "Reba," "Pepper Dennis," and "Everwood." That makes me wanna cry.
What makes me wanna cry more is the fact that One Tree Hill is still on! Other news about The CW: Pilots picked up: "Runaway" and "The Game." "Palm Springs" for midseason. Wow, that's not a lot. I was sure that "Aquaman" was gonna get picked up but hey, that's the way the television world works. You get a lot of hype, and then it turns out to be crappy.
The CW: Powerhouse of Tomorrow?
By now... almost everyone should know that a new network is forming in the 2006-2007 primetime season... and that network is entitled, "The CW Network." It is a merge of The WB and UPN network. At first, I was really disappointed with the name, but now the name seems to stick on my tongue. Anyway, most people aren't concerned with the name... but what shows are going to be on the schedule.
If you're a fan of "America's Next Top Model," "Everybody Hates Chris," "Smallville," or "WWE Wrestling" (which is you are... slap to you), you can take a deep breath cuz they are almost completely guaranteed a spot on the schedule. "Gilmore Girls" is also a "guarantee" but the producer Amy Sherman-Palladino is leaving next season, but there's no guarantee that the show will be as good as this and the previous seasons. So with that said, if you are a "Gilmore" fan, I'm not sure if you should be breathing a sigh of relief that your show is coming back next season, or if you should start worrying about next season's quality of the show.
"On the bubble." Those three words make me nervous cuz there are shows on The WB and UPN that I want to survive... that's a lie. There are shows on The WB (hehe) that I personally respect and am not sure if they will make the cut for the merger. Some of the lesser talked about shows are "Pepper Dennis" and "One Tree Hill." Nobody knows if they're gonna make it at all. However... there are also the two hugely respected shows in the critic's eyes: "Veronica Mars" and "Everwood." Nobody know if they're going to make it or not, but I were to give a say, I'd probably guarantee that both of them are gonna make it, and "Pepper" and "Tree" will not. Sadly. I'm not even gonna mention the UPN crappy comedies that are still technically "on the bubble" because in my eyes... they have no chance at all. Some examples include "Cuts" and "Half & Half."
Now the new pilots. "Aquaman" is in no doubt receiving the most buzz, so do not be surprised if it is picked up. Same with "Palm Springs." However, the other pilots seem to be getting less buzz including "Split Decision," "Runaway" and "She Said, He Said." I would choose "Split Decision" to be put on the schedule, however I'm not sure if it'd do well at all.
As for 7th Heaven... SURPRISE!!! It's not technically dead, so it might actually be back next season. Okay, so The WB says that it's the final episodes ever, but they might be intending that it's the last episodes ever on The WB. There have been increased talks about having the show return on The CW. I'm not surprised... because the show is actually still the highest rated program on The WB. However, it would leave less room on the schedule if it gets renewed... leaving less chance for worthy shows "on the bubble, " like "Everwood" and "Pepper Dennis" and if they get cancelled... *weep* I'll be sad.
So... we can all keep on guessing our hearts out about what gonna be on The CW and what's not... but we will not know until the upfronts come out. Don't be surprised at surprises. Who knows? Veronica Mars might be axed and South Beach might make the schedule. But if that happens... I think I'll go to The CW's headquarters and personally slap each of them... purposefully.
