Well, I think we all know how much I love a bit of trivia! So here's some festive facts I've found around the internet!
- The 3 Kings in the nativity were called Casper, Balthazar and Melchior
- The Queen has made a TV Christmas message since 1957. But they were only live for 3 years until she started pre-recording them in 1960.
- Sir Isaac Newton's birthday was on Christmas day.
- In Japan, Father Christmas is known as Santa No Ojisan, which means Uncle Santa
- Mistletoe should be burnt on the twelfth night of Christmas otherwise couples who kiss under it will never get married.
- Tinsel was originally made in Germany as strips of real silver, but they lost their shine and artifical tinsel became more popular.
- Sir Henry Cole started the custom of Christmas Cards as he found that he was writing a lot of Christmas letters to friends and family and thought that having a standard card produced for all would save time.
- Tom Smith invented the Christmas Cracker as a way to buy sweets with a nice motto inside. He later found a way to make them crack.
- The Christmas film "It's A Wonderful Life" was originally a flop, but it was repeated so much on television that it eventually has become more highly regarded.
- Charles Dickins wrote "A Christmas Carol" in just 6 weeks in 1843.
