Last Wednesday I moved into my condo. It's been a long road getting here, from the mortgage process to now the unpacking. And I still have to make it a 'home' at some point. I have very limited furniture - a bedroom set, a futon and an entertainment cabinet - enough to move me in, but two bedrooms remain empty. One of them will become a study/computer room but I'm still not sure what to do with the other - I don't know if I want to deal the hassles of a room-mate but I sure could use some money to make my monthly payments.... ![]()
I haven't blogged in almost two weeks, and have barely kept up with all my regular blog visits. My apologies if I missed a few. Needless to say, I'm a bit behind in my guides and shows that I watch. At my new place I have cable and Satellite and I am faced with the challenge of getting one of them to work with my first generation TIVO. The cable is 'free', included to all residents of the complex, but I'm missing quite a few essentials like IFC. The satellite connection will get me more channels but the complex shares a dish that I think badly needs to be re-aligned.
In TV.com news, I am now at level 55. I got a whole level on Gamespot too, not sure exactly why, I was only getting 2% every visit until this week.
Also, I got my X-Box back after it's second RRoD. This time they only repaired it and while I'm determined to try to keep it cool this time, I'm pessimistic about how long it'll be before it 'melts' again. Looking through the Live Arcade games I missed in the last 5 months or so, I picked up Brain Challenge. I also got a demo of Lost Cities - should be good for a short diversion before I tackle a full game soon. I've also got a 30 day Live Gold trial that I'll have to use at some point.
Have a good rest of the week everyone. And, Lets Go Pens!

I just had yet another busy weekend of planning and then shopping for my impending move, now set for the end of the month. I hardly had anytime for TV.com - I made 2 subs from Friday to Sunday night. And on top of it, my Satellite system was acting up all week and was going down intermittently, but I will hopefully get that resolved this week.
The mini-saga we had on this site last week makes me wonder about the long term health of the user base here. There is a core of loyal users here that spend a lot of time on this site and provide the guts of the site - information. And they do it for less than peanuts really - just basic recognition of their time in the form of some emblems. The site is dependent on having guides that are readable and up to date, because if they aren't, then the mass of people who vist the site for information (and generate the ad revenue) will go elsewhere. And so the decision-makers on the site would do well to keep these users 'in the loop' for feedback. I know many are still unhappy with the short-term compromise but at least the decision was made and communicated relatively quickly. But, really, changes need to be communicated before they happen - maybe a test site accessible by a few to guage reactions to site-wide changes. I realize this wouldn't have prevented last week's incident, but the only solution to that might be more communication.
Last week also reminded of the much publicised firing of the reviewer at Gamespot a couple of months ago, which also happened over a result of a clash between the business of running a profitable website while catering to the companies that provide content and the integrity of the site itself. Many viewed the duplication of guides as a sort of plagiarism, albeit one that is covered by the TOS. But the principles of it probably was - making cast lists and typing quotes is time consuming and if someone can just go in and copy/paste, especially without acknowledging the source, then yes, people will take exception.
Ok, that's my two 'pence' on the situation. I know it's a little late after the flurry of blogs last week, but that's what you get for two pence. ![]()
Have a good week everyone.

I just got a notice that the TV.com submission system is down for maintenance. So, I guess it's a good time for a blog.
On the flip side, the search function seems to be working properly again, so I have a handful of subs just waiting to be done.
The weekend seems to have just flown by for me. Still doing some work on the Condo, giving it a good cleaning before I start moving stuff in. Water and Power are there, so now we need telephone and more importantly, Internet.
I started watching Legion of Super-Heroes season 2 this weekend. I missed a couple of the early episodes, but it wasn't too bad. I am happy to see a season story-arc and more new characters coming to the fore-front, if only at the expense of some of the first season characters. I hope this show lasts longer than Justice League.
Managed to do a few subs on Saturday to get me past 10k accepted submissions. I didn't get the editorship I was expecting due to the bug, but Danmod set me up as a TU, so it's all good. I should have another show once that bug is solved.
Have a good week everyone!
