Feeling crappy has given me some gaming time, so I can reflect on a few gaming thoughts.
But you know me, I can't be normal and just give a little run-through of games I'm playing. I have to give some personal antics and reflections.
First Game Up! Batman: Arkham Asylum
What do you get when you eat the pig on Noah's boat? Arkham. Nyah nyah...nyah.
The game is incredibly beautiful and incredibly short if you don't count the Riddler's riddle/trophy/easter egg hunt. I was just not a fan of this like everyone else and found it incredibly, awfully, terribly, indescribably mundane. I just didn't find those things interesting at all.
Unlocking character bios and little models of the guys you've seen all game does not do anything for me in the least. It just doesnt. Unlocking playable characters, new weapons, new things- that's fun. Unlocking a little 3-D model? Not so much. (Just Matt's opinion here, don't shoot me yet.)
It was fun and all...but I found out something grave about my gameplay during Batman. I started linking my game experience to unlocking achievements.
I've started playing games for that little trophy or little achievement on my respective consoles, and that's no good. It detracts from the game and makes it unfun. So if you see a teeny-tiny number next to my 360 guy, that's why. I have to play the game to enjoy the game. otherwise I'm not playing the game. If that makes sense.
Next up: Fable II
I know, it's been out oh-so-long and Toni's already beaten it. Well, this was one of those "you gotta have the time to sit in front of it games." And I didn't have the time I had to have.
So I've started it, and I like it. Except...I think I'd like it on a computer better.
There are just so many things your character can do, it can't possibly be confined to those 12 buttons and directional sticks. Some people hate playing games with a keyboard and mouse. Not I. I prefer it. There's just so much more at the disposal of your fingertips.
Kicking chickens ftw.
So that's my foray into the gaming front again. Not bad choices. I was a wee bit underwhelmed by Batman, but I listened to so much hype, that was probably inevitable. Which led me to wonder this:
I've been overwhelmed and underwhelmed. Some day I need to just be "whelmed."
I tried to get Boomer to play Batman with me, but he only wanted to sleep.
Comments
@reckeweg: Well, like I told Drumtastic, I really enjoyed the game, I just didn't like those points about it. Plus not getting all of Batman's cool toys until late in the game. Why didn't he just bring those to begin with?
@polsci1503: Especially when they don't want to wear it!
You just must not have provided Boomer with the right incentive - like a beam of light or a feather on a string!
I really enjoyed Fable 2. I'm missing about 3 achievements that sound too darn hard to go for. Still glad you're enjoying your gaming break, and although that seems contradictory, still sorry you have to go through the big-tube-inside-you thing.
Boomer looks like he's wearing a cape, is he? I think he rather tried to imitate Batman, rather than play it.
Please don't have me moderated.
Two games I intend to play... eventually...
You totally need to put that picture on I Can Has Cheezburger.
@MJoanne: I'm a little down on Fable 2 because I watched Toni play it so much, there's no "Oh neat," factor- I've already seen it all. It's still good. I haven't played the first Fable yet, though we got it recently. I can't possibly imagine why Boomer doesn't just love his cape.
@Transilvanien: I was never big on Batman the superhero or movie character, but it's a cool game- except hunting trophies. It goes against the grain of the rest of the game. I tried outfitting Boomer with a cape to get into the spirit- he wasn't real happy (after he woke up.)
@EarthThatWas: I thought about examining the psychology behind why I enjoyed booting chickens. I figured I'd best just let that one go.
@johnsteed7: You hurt my feelings. I'm telling!
@bacchus2: Catman has a nice ring, but not very apt. More like "Once I Woke Up I Bounced Off The Walls Yowling For Having A Cape Tied Around My Neck Man." I have lots of "eventually," games. @notjessica: Gaming time yay. Feeling crappy boo. I thought about Boomer and I Can Haz Cheezburger actually. But, once I start on that site, I lose five hours in the day somehow.
@korino55: You mean after all this time you haven't realized that your kitchen was gone? See what gaming does!
@SquareEnixFan13: Tip cows?? Now I gotta get that game too! Thanks. @Foolz3h: You care of nothing in the world at all except Fable II? Fascinating.
@tennis12master: Man, that bling sound of an achievement...ugh. I just need to stop even looking at them. I find myself pausing the game to see what I can get. [shaking head]. Thanks on the Boomer pic. He's a photogenic fellow.
Yeah, I've read that from a lot of folks. They kind of felt like some of the optional elements in Batman would take them out of the story.
@Foolz3h: Congratulations. You're my new best friend.
And the Arkham joke reminded me of something my principal said once. It was something like, "This isn't Noah's Ark people. You're not supposed to be in two by twos."
@theunloved: Yeah, I definitely enjoyed just the Batman/Joker part of the game waaaay more than the Riddler stuff. Just let me do a silent takedown all day, and I'm good.
